I see "Filth" instead of "Filtr" everytime I see this ad on spotify...Is it just me, or do you see it too? xD

5:59 AM
@johnp I see Filtr
it's cursive

lol i hope im not the only one. I know it's cursive. i just think the end of the F swash and the long shoulder of the r are misleading at a distance or small scale
@ZachSaucier how you doing anyway, work's going well?

2 hours later…
8:12 AM
Nigel Farage and the whole Brexit establishment now:

Brexit has more plot twists and side characters than a Shakespearean tragedy

^^
hey gents

8:28 AM
morning Vincent

hey @JohnP

9:11 AM
morning ladies and gents

hello mr. Edit

:)

Do you still get rep from your edits, @luciano?

checked again, I get +2 per question edited

yeah, but at a certain point, that stops

9:26 AM
hello @johnp, @Vincent && @Luciano

o/

howdy @PieBie

@Vincent I suppose so, but I'm still low rep for now
@PieBie o/

@Luciano I'm not complaining. Keep this up for a few more months and I'll have another Steward badge for reviewing them :P

lol

9:33 AM
:)
I'm about to get a "Strunk & White" - 2 more edits

sighs such a politically incorrect badge name :P

tell me about it

1 hour later…
11:03 AM
any iOS css wizards present?

@Vincent maybe, depends on the issue...

hyphenation in webkit browsers?
...in Dutch
Ok, I got a solution that works. Thanks anyway!

okidoki, glad to be of help :p

11:47 AM
i see Mr & Mrs Eaves are on Typekit now along with lots of other Emigre fonts....yay

12:01 PM
I'm making a pie chart in illustrator...it shows the legend on the side, for the colors in the pie chart, but it won't show the actual numbers as well. Is there a way to show both the color legend, and the numbers?
Or can you only do one or the other?

hello @ale19, welcome to the Ink Spot

Hi! Sorry, is that the right way to ask a question here?
I guess I should've introduced myself first, sorry!

Did you check The Adobe help files and / or Google?

Yep! I found a question on this site that shows how to get numbers to appear, but it doesn't show how to display the legend as well (graphicdesign.stackexchange.com/questions/57748/…). I have also read all of Illustrator's official documentation, although they don't have a whole lot published about their pie chart tool.
And they just talk about how to format the legend, they don't give any kind of guide for showing the actual numbers.

I'd give it a try on the main site

12:06 PM
I already did, the question has been up for three days...

be sure to include a screenshot of what you have, and don't forget to include that link you just gave
ah!

That's why I came in here...

well... chat is only populated by some 12 different people regularly, and it's exceptionally slow today
If you are in need of an answers, you could try to add a bounty to the question

Ah, okay. Thanks. Guess I'll just leave the question up and hope someone finds it eventually...
I don't have enough rep to do that yet :<
I can do it on StackOverflow but not here...

I just gave you 5 :)

12:09 PM
Hey, thanks :)

maybe do things the other way around? Have Ai print the numbers and semi-manually add the legend later?
or is that too much of a hassle as well?

Yeah, that's kinda my workaround for now. The legend will always be the same for each group of pie charts so I have like five different legends that I can copy/paste as needed. It's still slow as hell, and the numbers don't look great, but it's better than nothing.
Also, the numbers are technically the legend (the trick is to select the "Legends In Wedges" option under "Graph Type"), and for some reason the numbers always appear in size 5, so I have to manually make them bigger as well...
Ah well, I'll figure something out

wwell, some of the chat regulars may have an idea. Especially @joojaa
but he doesn't seem to be on

12:38 PM
morning

hey @Ryan had a good 4th?

yep. And its going to be a long 5th as a result haha

lol
grab some coffee

still dripping. about to be done
how was your weekend?

quite okay, actually
had my folks over and we had a nice day in the city center
drank some good beer in the sun. Always good

12:50 PM
That's cool. Its too hot here to have a beer outside unless you're in a pool

ah, that time of year? nineties?

high 90s with 80% humidity
you're basically in a sauna

oof

I am sleeping

so you are sleep-typing, @joojaa?

12:55 PM
yes, its a bit hard with the kids jumping up on the bed and you guys pinging
Aaaand it does not count as a sauna untill its 60degrew celsius at minimum...

you have done bigger feats :P
I trust it's still hawt :D

Though i prefeer 80-90

I was watching a little Bob Ross over the weekend. Made me want to try my hand at digital painting again
was looking for Bob Ross brushes and tips and found this amazing speed painting:

@ale19 i dont think i can do mich for the pie chart tool. But i can make a new one if you wish. Care for some postscript?

Uh...I'm not totally sure what that is. Is that like an EPS file?
Or is it an actual script?

1:02 PM
@Ryan amazed that they don't work in layers :O

I googled, and I see things that are talking about both scripts and actual files, so I guess I'm a little confused, sorry

@Vincent amazed in general! I want to get even a fraction of that good

@ale19 ah see the beauty of the thing is that an eps is a script, and a file and keeps getting executed

Yeah, they used to use EPS files here, and then last year they decided to switch to Illustrator for some reason...
The thing is that I have like fifteen pie charts...so I have a script to update the data in all 15, but it won't update the legend and the numbers as well unless I do a couple of obnoxious workarounds

@ale19 these things do not contradict each other. Ai is a good eps editor

1:10 PM
So much for getting a new wacom....got a letter from the bank today...my student overdraft is finally coming to an end. my life of capitalist excess is no more ;(

@joojaa If you have something that can make the pie look almost exactly like the image I posted, then that would be great and I would definitely appreciate it :) The EPS files we have now do not seem to be editable in AI, and they don't look anything like that pie chart...

@ale19 link?

Working on one right now, sorry
So I'm not sure if it'd be better to use the old script and edit all the files after the fact (e.g. deleting the 3D parts, changing the color, etc.)...

Or would it be better to make one document of pie charts that look kinda how I want them to look, and then update the data with the new script, and then edit them some more?

well ill do something quick qithoutteh 3d transform but tsht easy enough to do,

@Vincent speaking of coffee and @Darth_Vader if you're back

1:30 PM
hehe
I honestly like how it is sarcastic and enlightening without being aggressive and abrasive

1:48 PM
@joojaa that would be great! sorry for the confusion, I really don't have much experience with this at all...
They hired a graphic design student last year to do all of these things, and now they want me to automate it...

life is a box of berries

...I thought chocolates. cries

2:11 PM
Photoshop Elements? Is that cr*p still being sold?

@Vincent that other addictive, unregulated brown stuff!

lol
I always call them 'fuels of society' :)

2:48 PM
@joojaa I love what I'm doing at work but they don't have enough work to keep me busy. So I've been doing a fair bit of my own stuff at work, which is okay, but I would prefer to work on client stuff because that's what I really came for

ah America is waking up @JohnB @Zach
had a good 4th, gents? :)

hi! yes! I slept through it! :P

lol
how so?

two day hiking/climbing expedition on Saturday and Sunday, Monday was recovery day
I would have pictures to share but I left my camera bag at my friend's house. Ooops. But I got to put my new wide angle zoom lens to work, really happy with it

that sounds exhausting indeed :)
remember to post some when you get it back.
Encountered any more rattlers?

3:00 PM
I sure will

Nice! Look forward to seeing them

No interesting critters this time, just some chipmunks

@JohnB Very similar for me, haha. Though I watched the fireworks from a roof at the place I'm starting
Staying" on mobile

I wish I had my camera on me this morning. Was driving home from a friends and saw a really nice landscape, maybe I'll go back over the weekend and hope it has similar lighting conditions

it was a flood watch in my area on the 4th so any fireworks displays were cancelled, so I wasn't missing out on much

3:02 PM
@Ryan it isn't surgically attached to your hand? :O

@Vincent it should be :(

@Cai you have many problems with Royal Mail? Anytime I use it something goes missing

Cai
@johnp Yes. They are useless. Don't ever trust them

I didn't even realize the store had shipped with them as the due date was so soon...;(

Cai
I used to sell t-shirts and stuff and used royal mail. Things went missing all the time
and they lost my tax returns once even through i sent it recorded delivery

3:11 PM
aw that is very lousy! I wonder if I have any hope of another one being sent by the seller
i wonder if people do this all the time....lol. my classmate was sent 2 macbooks as the first was delayed via the mail xD
bizarre really

Q: Identify this font?

Kshitij_earth http://imgur.com/Jp8SKEz Can you help me idetify the font used in this logo? Closest I could get was "Condor Black".

'kunthcab', seriously?

wut?

either someone has a real bad sense of what is a good brand name or this is a troll.
@PieBie that's what I said

i love the emphasis on the special K

apparently it's an Indian cable company

3:16 PM
@ZachSaucier huh

>:( the poll I made on Massdrop someone added another monitor to and that one is now, as I expected, in the lead
I deliberately left it off because its missing a key feature I want :(

3:31 PM
just edit the lines:
/vals [10 20 120 27 ] def
/names [(Redheads) (Blondes) (Brunettes) (Other) ] def
and see it update in illustrator when placed

Cai
Are you trying to say you like blondes @joojaa?

yes

Cai
@johnp That's incredible! why does that stuff never happen to me?

i like them all

Cai
lol

3:34 PM
i know, right?! the worst thing is she sent back the extra one ;( as if apple would miss it

argh i have a indexing problem

Cai
She should have sent it to me :)

that's what I told her!

@joojaa: oh wow, that's fantastic! I had no idea EPS was an option for this but I think that'll work much better. I think all we would need to do would be to write a script to update the /vals line and the /names line....
@joojaa: How did you write this? Did you use Ghostscript or something else?

4:05 PM
I guess the only downside is that none of us here at work know much about PS/EPS, and I'm not sure I'll have time to learn and teach it to people.

hmm was it @PieBie with Affinity Designer? Did you ever get around to trying it?

yes it was I. And no, I haven't gotten around to it, it's deadline galore at the job atm

4:19 PM
aww show next year I've been looking forward to as an opportunity to see San Francisco was moved and is in San Jose instead.

@ale19 then because linked files update in illustrator once i save the canges the results update in illustrator so by paging back and forth i can see it updare
@ale19 you on windows or mac?
@ale19 an yes i worte the eps manually
on windows you can make a different extension so if you then edit the linked ifle it opens a dialog

@joojaa I'm on Windows. At the moment I have it set up so that it opens by default in AI. I also have it open in Notepad++ so I can make changes/play around with it and then reopen it in AI

the extension of ths placed wfile dont have to be eps
if you put it as txt then it will open in whatever your default editor is
So you can have programs that embed themselves in a eps/pdf file wih different extension and therefore open in a different software but still be placeable in illustrator

@joojaa I know. I just left it as EPS because I didn't feel like changing it. I was looking for a way to change the colors of the individual pie slices, by messing around with line 38 (the loop that draws the lines of the pie, I think?) and using the 'fill' command

and photoshop of indesign
if you want to fill and stroke then use something like

gsave
fill
grestore
stroke

4:34 PM
but the colors need to be different for each slice...wouldn't that make the whole pie the same color?
assuming you do something like gsave 1 0 0 0 fill grestore stroke

yeah im refactoring the code so that the input would look like

[
120 (humans)
300 (monkeys)
]

3 hours later…
7:23 PM
@ale19 updated script found here pastie.org/10899667
can now draw colors, is beter refactored so all but configs are local so you can now print more than one pie per file. (remove last drawcall to do so)

That's fantastic. I stand in awe...

demo

We're getting towards the end of the workday in my location, but I might message you later about it, if that's okay, once I've had time to really dig into it and learn more about PostScript...

edit the list with color definitions to change your color palette
now i have to go back and clean

It definitely looks really promising, thank you for your work!

7:26 PM
ill leave you to design a good palette
also i think input is easier now

:) Fortunately I have several already created!

good luck

Thanks!!

variatin on theme change pie drawcalls to:
  %~ 0 0 moveto
  0 0 inner s e arc
  0 0 inner 20 sub e s arcn
and you get
possibilities are endless

Damn, this is really useful
I wish I had known about this sooner!

7:43 PM
one can even do pies in pies

7:54 PM
Thanks for your help. I have to head home but I appreciate your time!
