Ahh the importance of research. Seems Mac OS10.10 Yosemite has issues with external firewire drives being randomly ejected and corrupted. --- that explains my issues with RAIDs since the update.
I suppose there's not much need to call it out in a small community like GD
we do it on StackOverflow to make sure certain posts don't get tons of crappy answers because they're list questions or simple errors
it also lets people discuss whether or not they think it should be closed, which I'm still not 100% sure of here (I think the question is off topic but I'm not fully sure)
Here's the dress (and keep reading, this is actually a serious question):
This question about this image has apparently become quite a rapidly spreading meme on the internet. And after conducting my own little home experiment I can see why! My brother an law looked at this image on the same sc...
@ZachSaucier I downvoted bu didn't close vote for now. Left a comment instead. If anything I think it should be closed as duplicate to a photo resource question.
Either that or keep open and become a wallpaper resource question, which I don't believe we have already
I thought since it's asking for list type answers (no correct answer - depends fully on the content of the image people are looking for, the style, and is opinion based) that it would be off topic, guess not
I'm always on the hunt for free stock images to use while I design, what are some good resources for images that are under a a royalty free or creative commons licence?
@Ryan are you able to see deleted posts on your own question?
there are three deleted answers, the main reason for protection is to prevent more like that. I don't know the specific mechanics, but questions sometimes get auto-protected by Community♦ when they have a bunch of deleted answers
here we go. So the only reason this wasn't auto-protected was because one of the deleted answers is by a user who has more than 10 rep
@Scott thanks for leaving the comment on that font id question...made me want to bang my head against the wall. Especially the re-addition of the font tag
I was so tempted Thursday night to post a question about the dress. But it would have been a question I already knew the answer to, and that would have felt like rep whoring haha
I might end up answering the question myself. I've done a bit of research and found some more scientific backing into how its done which may shed more light on how it can be reproduced. Ultimately though I'm led to believe it will be almost impossible to reproduce
wish I could get more people interested in the "Tennis." Think its funny that Vincent and Matt are all for these community building activities but when someone actually starts one they're too busy to even comment
I am not a beginner. I tried not to modify much the previous step, though, because I thought it would be cool if most of the previous step is still there but the next step is just a variation of it.
Since a recent change in notifications, I see more than I should:
I see no reason to see 134 posts are awaiting review, when there is literally nothing I can do about them. I think it is a bug, because notification is meant as something that will make me act. When I know I usually can't, obvio...
Like??/ They are coming to me because I'm the closest they know. I built a general "squeeze" site for them using their code form Infusionsoft. Now they have issues with Infusionsoft and are asking me to fix them. I'm not an Infusionsoft expert and it's not really my wheelhouse to fix Infusionsoft issues
Despite that Meta post.. something DID change though @JohnB I used to only see a number for the posts I could review... now I see how long things sit in the Mod queue :) Or maybe the mods were jsut on top if it more during beta and early stages of the site :)
Doesn't really bother me though
I jsut realize how lazy our mods are :) nudge, nudge, wink, wink :)
It would be reasonable for an external transfer transaction to take a few days in like 1980. I feel like there's no reason for it not to be almost instantaneous now, and they're taking advantage of the fact that it's what people are expecting so there's no need to improve it
of course I don't know anything about bank system architecture and it's more pleasing to assume they're being greedy than to give the benefit of the doubt :)
@JohnB If it's Blender send it obviously ;). General cg might be iffy, use your best judgement, no harm done as these can be easily removed or closed, if you have the time can always feel free to ask someone in our chat.
Well.. that's like voting John :) There's no reason we need a single day and ballot boxes. The internet could handle voting in real time without the electoral college.. but....
There are already quite a few question asking for resources, which basically ask for links:
Where are some good places to find free stock images?
What are good sources for Open-Source fonts?
Where can I find good filigree?
Where can I find tutorials for Gimp?
Where can I find tutorials for Inks...
I think the title says it all really.
The resource-recommendations tag is very broad, and could really include anything. We have more specific tags for areas where we're happy to recommend things, but should we really have such an ambiguous tag inviting all kinds of off-topic content?
Doesn't ...
@Scott sure but JohnB hammered it. Its not like the community made a new meta to decide that resource questions are no longer permitted, or collectively voted to close. I think it should be especially for a relatively new non-adobe software where resources are a lot more difficult to find
regarding the community wiki thing: there's no point anymore. That's an outdated mechanism. If there's another post like this one where we want to encourage people to add to one answer, then it's appropriate
I don't know about that. CW was relevant when there was no such thing as suggested edits. It was implemented to allow people with not enough rep or anonymous users to make edits to posts
suggested edits killed the need for that
Posts also used to automatically be converted to CW after a certain number of edits were made, they killed that functionality too
we just get a mod flag instead now
I'm more comfortable with book recommendation questions because books aren't subjected to link rot. The book may become outdated, but at least it'll (probably) still exist
And stack sites are supposed to be more expert oriented. "How to learn" isn't really an expert-level question. Not that I wish the site to be elitist at all. But it's impossible really to tell someone how to learn. Everyone is different. I like seeing other software than Adobe... but I'm becoming less a fan of software questions in general.
I don't blame the user for not knowing, but any question asking for "the best" is probably not a good fit or needs to be re-worded. Being the best is likely something that is opinion based
Eh we're just arguing semantics at this point but everyone hopes for the best solution. Not a crappy one. There can be multiple equal solutions, but that's still better than some garbage one.
I mean even in the real non-software questions. "How do I handle my boss who doesn't like my designs?" --- shoot him. Sure shooting him works. But its pretty far from a decent answer
I appreciate you asking, but I stand by my hammering the sketch question. Though if it gets re-opened through the review queue, I certainly wouldn't go against the community's decision and re-close it
Then a litle more playing in Affinity since it was my first time using it. Pretty slick on hair selection and I added two light sources which was a lot better interface and performance than photoshop
I'm personally not concerned, but it might be a good idea to force those to be links instead of embedded images for anyone who may be at a less tolerant workplace
@Scott not sure what you mean by "round trip files?" - It has .psd import and saving and export and all of that stuff but haven't tried it. I can try it tonight and let you know
I've considered looking into it, just haven't had the time. My comp'd cc subscription will be up soon and I'll be faced with the monthly fee, sticking to CS6 (most likely), or finding others.
Well at least for now Affinity Photo is unlimited until its out of beta. 10 day trial won't start until then. I'll have a look tonight at how the integration works. I imagine more advanced things might have issues if you're using channels, displacement maps, lighting, 3D but never know. Maybe it'll work perfectly, maybe it won't.
I'm a pretty decent graphic designer but I'm not quite sure
what the best method would be to make it a vector image.
I'm going to try and make it with the pen tool and gradient fills.
This was is an edited logo from a stock logo site and is only a large png.
I've tried using various live traci...
