9:20 AM
Yay! Swag! :D

9:49 AM
@Vincent Urgh

hey joojaa

@Vincent That means its here tomorrow

I hope so

I mean european mail traffic goes from US commonly via Holland for some reason so it means its 1 day off from finland when you get it.

Netherlands.

9:51 AM
Yeah sure
:)

:)
But I didn't know that we're a mail hub.

I know its athe same as we call Estland Viro even if viro is just the northernmost area of the country
But then again nobody calls Finland by its proper name so who the hell cares

Suomi?
I know two words of Finnish, 'Suomi' and, wel... I guess I won't repeat the other here

Prk%& or V%&&¤
??
Many Finns use profanity in everyday speech when compared to other nationalities. While not all Finns swear, frequent swearing is a mark of youth culture, sometimes the elderly, and usually not the middle-aged. However, it is commonly considered impolite to swear excessively in public and official occasions, and particularly in front of children in all regions of the world. Use of swearwords may also imply familiarity as opposed to official distance. Swearwords are used as intensifiers, adjectives, adverbs, particles and to start or finish sentences. There is also an aggressive mood that involves...

@joojaa the first, I believe
although I though there'd be an 'e' between the P and r

10:03 AM
Ah but thats just the name of the thundergod
Its often written without the e

anyway vikipedia had a quite comprehensive list (altough it was missing a few)

I learned most I know of Finland through SatW and a half-Finnish friend of mine :)

Im inclined to say that he would probably had sait V:tun, V:tun, V:ttu. Or V:ttu, P:le
yeah i have two cousins and an aunt in livin in the Netherlands

hehe. The SatW writer is a native Dane, so she might not get every detail right :)

10:05 AM
Tough i have more ancestors living in Netherworld :P

uh... scary, that matches my friend and his mother and brother
does your aunt do fine art?

noot that i know

hehe, would have been too much of a coincidence :)

Weirder things have happened. My friend went on a walk into Masai Mara in Africa. After 2 weeks of isolation the first safari that he comes across is his next door neighbor.
But then this guy nailed himself to the inner roof too so...

lol!
uh, what? 'nailed himself to the inner roof'?

10:13 AM
Yes he was doing the paneling, alone, and then just shot a nail with the nail gun trough the palm of his hand. He had to wait 3 hours for help.
Good thing he wasn't using a circular saw or anything.

10:33 AM
ouch

10:58 AM
some people should not be left alone with power tools

Yes i agree me included
But im aware of it so that leaves me out of the destruction zone

hehe -- I know my way around a screwdriver and a hammer, but anything powered... nope, no way.
maybe a jigsaw

2 hours later…
12:42 PM
happy friday

hey Ryan, you too

@Ryan Hi
I gotta go and stop working

bye, enjoy the weekend

:P

My dad is starting a business of sorts and just sent me the two ads a company made for him... I could've done better than this in probably.... 15 minutes. That might be generous

12:50 PM
heh, why didn't he ask you first?

no clue. Didn't know he was doing these until yesterday when he emailed them over for me to review
For one thing there's a crumpled paper texture on the back of both. I have no idea what the design decision there was but it looks terrible

what kind of business is it?

i don't even know. My dad and I don't have the greatest relationship and I haven't really supported this endeavor too much to begin with. It's some sort of training school. I thought for veterinarian assistants but now I guess its pet grooming
I don't, in any way, support for-profit schools and have been vocal to him about that.

ah, I see
I'd say, be honest. You don't want him to be ripped off, I guess

ah its more complicated than that

12:58 PM
sup

hey Matt

I particularly like Canine Opedience Classes o.O

@Ryan yeek

ouch
serious ouch. Calibri?
typography is horrible overall
especially the spacing

I thought maybe they tried doing it in-house.. he tells me he hired a "professional company" to do it. I laughed and said you may have hired a company but they're not professional

1:01 PM
spot on :)
that's my thought exactly

@Ryan that erks me when they call themselves professional

the other ad says "Ask how to get a FREE IPad with enrollment" besides my absolute disdain at the fact a place claiming to be for education is marketing freebies to students I'm not sure you can legally do that
Its iPad and is a registered trademark of Apple and should be indicated as such
@Scott just heard about the Plastic Ban. I need to read all the details about it though. Are you in favor?

2:07 PM
well... that was the quickest accepted answer I think I ever had.. I pulled a @ryan..

lol congrats!

ya I wasnt really expecting that

hey just be happy you stole rep a non-mod could use :P
And I just tossed you an upvote cause why not

I think Im going to spend more of my rep in trying to get more, better answers..

I've had mixed luck with bounties. It really seems if people wanted to answer if they would've already.

2:14 PM
hey you use Chrome?
@scott you use chrome?

at home yes, at work firefox. I have chrome at work as well, just don't usually use it
Something I should look at in chrome?
I'm looking at the Orlando Small Business Development Center's website. Think I'm going to give them a call and see if I can become a consultant for them. I'm so tired of seeing small businesses get all the help in the world on marketing plans and research only to hire shit companies like my dad just did and wonder why they're failing

@Ryan sounds like a good venture

I've thought of doing it before, think now its time I act on it

I dont understand why your dad didnt ask you for help to begin with

Wondering if I can get a grant to help get myself started with a new computer and Adobe CC subscription
@Matt he asked for my help on logo at least feedback since I'm not an illustrator. I gave him a lot of feedback and in the end he ignored my advice and now his logo is mediocre at best.
One sec, I'll show you it - just delete it after you look alright

2:20 PM
ok

ignore the crappy texture, i took it from the crappy ad

I kinda like the concept
of the visual
execution, though...

Of the like 6 visuals he sent me this is the one I felt was best. Its the type that's not good though especially with two different fonts and both need to be fairly large to be legible

who uses a texture like that in an ad!

@Ryan completely agree
it's the typo that's weak

2:24 PM
ah I didn't even realize that was you talking above Vincent lol

he snuck in

'pussyfooted' is the word here, I believe :)

I don't think I've ever heard pussyfooted used in that fashion
generally its, "I don't pussyfoot around" meaning "I don't dick around" meaning "I don't fool around" meaning "I get to the point" clear right? <----- why Foreign Businessmen hate English idioms

from wiktionary:
1. To move silently, stealthily, or furtively.
2. To act timidly or cautiously.
3. To use euphemistic language or circumlocution.
but I like the 'I don't dick around' interpretation :)
'pussyfooting around a subject' is the main idiom I've heard it used
but then again, you're a native, and I learned all my English from pop culture :)

we're saying the same thing. Beating a dead horse.
You're just using it as a positive, I've only ever heard it used with "I don't pussyfoot" never "I do pussyfoot"

2:41 PM
you're right, I'll shut my trap :)

lol well played! You're English is excellent for a foreigner. What's your native?

Thanks! I'm a Dutch native speaker
but I've been immersed with English ever since I was very young.
Most foreign kids' cartoons weren't dubbed over here
And the last time I read a Dutch-language book is looong ago

How do you become a "Certified e-Marketer" because according to the small business development website one of their consultants has that prestigious designation.

lol
you go to a 'professional' design firm
and you have yourself an 'official' certificate made
preferably with a crumpled paper background
makes it look authentic

lol can I just pay you $19.99 for a certificate. What's better than "Certified e-Marketer?" Let's make it "Certified Digital Marketing Analyst" everyone likes the word analyst. Makes it sound all technical and shit.

2:57 PM
nah. You need the words 'management' or 'manager' somewhere in there
'Certified Digital Marketing Managing Analytic Professional'

that can be another cert. "Certified Digital Marketing Analyst." "Certified Online Content Manager"
oh I like yours

Ryan J. Doe CDM MAP

MAP?
oh Marking Analyst Professional
why the space? Ryan J. Doe CDMMAP

woho
got my swag

ah, you too, Bente? Nice
@Ryan Looks nice on a businesscard when you smallcaps the CDMMAP
I wouldn't use 'Certified Online Content Manager', if only for the awkwardness when you say the abbrev out loud
COCM

3:01 PM
can I add Esquire too?

@Bente do you fit in your shirt? Mine's a swimmin gpool

es·quire
ˈeskwīr,iˈskwīr/
noun
noun: Esquire; noun: Esq.; noun: esquire; plural noun: esquires; noun: esq.

1.
North American
a title appended to a lawyer's surname.
British
a polite title appended to a man's name when no other title is used, typically in the address of a letter or other documents.
"Robert A. Pearson Esquire"
2.
historical
a young nobleman who, in training for knighthood, acted as an attendant to a knight.
an officer in the service of a king or nobleman.
a landed proprietor or country squire.

@Ryan add Esq. for instant cred

and don't forget RPCV which already get to use (Returned Peace Corps volunteer)

that's going to be one crammed business card

3:03 PM
Ryan S. Doe, CDMMAP RPCV Esq.

for when your ego's suffering

@Vincent for the shirt what size did you get and how big are you?
I got an XL, haven't got it yet though

srsly, I do think that people who add all that stuff to their names suffer from either shriveled egos or... other body parts
I asked for an M
but I got something that's much larger by European standards
I'm not big in any sense. I'm 6'2 ~ 6'3
and I weigh around 140 pounds

Jeebus you a lanky dude
I'm 5'9 and pushing 200

oh make that 160 pounds
sry, I'm bad at imperial measures

3:12 PM
whew thats a little better

I always calculate 1 pound == .5 kgs in my head, but it's about 10% less

2.2 to 1 ratio. 45 lbs is ~20 kg.
I weigh around 89 kg

Hehe, the main difference is that I don't work out
I cycle to and from work, that's some 18 miles a day
but that's all

i need to cycle more. just so hot out here right now

I need to start working out a bit more. Would be great for my back
And the bf would love it if I were only a slight bit more buff

3:19 PM
no time like the present
Y'all see the new Jockey ad campaign? I think they hit it outta the park.

lol

the commercial is so-so but the slogan and those print ads are great to me. "Jockey, Supporting Greatness" lol and a little google research says they did their homework and verified these guys did in fact wear jockey

I really like the print ads

3:47 PM
got anything planned for the weekend?

think im going to leave work early today to buy beer and play hearthstone. maybe go listen to some comedy later tonight. Tomorrow I'll be squatting very heavy then probably sleeping lol. Sunday going with friends to St. Pete (another Florida city about two hours away)
what about you?

trying your heavy lift again? The one that gave you back pain? :)
Going to do some boardgame shopping tomorrow

was just sore. but no that was deadlift. This week is squats

We're having some foreign friends over on Sundays, and we'll be playing with them

Boardgame shopping? Are there a lot of boardgame stores where you live?

3:56 PM
there's four of them very close to each other
they try and be a bit different form the others, but there's a lot of competition

wow that's a lot of boardgame shops. I don't recall what city you live in, but based on conversation I got the impression it was pretty small

It is, by American standards
it's the Netherlands's 4th city in terms of inhabs
my office is in a small village though :)

ooh maybe thats what I was thinking of. How many people in the metro area?

Utrecht (Dutch pronunciation: [ˈytrɛxt] ( )) is the capital and most populous city in the Dutch province of Utrecht. It is located in the eastern corner of the Randstad conurbation, and is the fourth largest city of the Netherlands with a population of 330,772 in 2014. Utrecht's ancient city centre features many buildings and structures from the Early Middle Ages. It has been the religious centre of the Netherlands since the 8th century. Currently it is the see of the Archbishop of Utrecht, the most important Dutch Roman Catholic leader. Utrecht is also the see of the archbishop of the Old Catholic...
~650k
only ~330k in the actual city
but the Dutch metro area kind of blends together

so small, can't believe it supports so many boardgame shops. In all of metro Orlando I can think of maybe 6 or 7 boardgame places. And most also sell comics or books as well

4:02 PM
hehe. Utrecht is quite the hipster town

so, you're in Train Delay Central?

ayup! :D
saw that one today as well
it's all so true :)

there's an art store in the US called Utrecht. Not sure if it comes from there. I imagine it does

haha

hey John

4:03 PM
hello guys

lots of Dutch names and lingo got left over, especially in Pennsylvania and areas like that
Lots of neighbourhood names in New York are Anglicised versions of the original Dutch names

yeah there is a Holland, PA

how are you, John?

good!

got the big load of work done?

4:05 PM
we can pretend I did

then let's! :D
ready for the weekend!

holiday weekend in the US, woot

oh, you guys have Monday off?

yup

yep yep

4:07 PM
nice!
a much-needed breather

yep yep
20 minutes then im going to kickstart my weekend

Me too, but for me it's a lot later than it's for you

the marshal has returned!

i got a half day from driving to a small day-show earlier this week. Now's as good a time as any to use it

ah, time for time. Wish my boss would do that ;)
hey Matt

4:17 PM
im not very influenced today..

hmm just called the small business center and the receptionist was pretty confused when I said I want to be a consultant instead of get a consultant. Directed me to another woman but told me all the consultants are hired and employed by the university. I didn't even know it was a paid position

guess they don't get that offer very often

Here I was going to offer to consult for free. Clearly that Certified e-Marketing Specialist credential carries a lot of monetary value.

they must've gotten your business card ;)

well im off. enjoy the weekend

4:29 PM
later man!
Vincent hows the new home working out?

have a good one, @Ryan
@Matt hehe it isn't new
we just bought the apartment we were already renting
so no moving stress or anything

well..

but it's working out fine, all right :) In a couple of weeks, everything will be official

I would have used that as an excuse to remodel

I hate remodeling
both of us aren't exactly DIYers

4:36 PM
I like it sometimes..
I feel a sense of accomplishment and I can say.. ya I did that..

I'm usually left with a feeling of shame. That damage to the wall / kitchen / floor / ceiling? ya, I did that

4:48 PM
ok, weekend's gonna start for me as well. Have a good one, gents!

have a good one

4 hours later…
8:30 PM
Sometimes.. I feel like Sisyphus. ah well.

8:59 PM
Holy crap I haven't been here all week. WHAT DID I MISS
