@Scott and @DA01 i think that the way you define that PDF is not a vector format is problematic. Because by your definition EPS, SVG, EMF etc. do not get defined as vector formats since they can also contain images. Maybe a better term would be that PDF and PS are page description formats. But even that falls short
most people would call PDF a vector format, and may in fact think its more accurate than psd formats since the what you see is what you get effect of photoshop rasterisation of vectors. But on the otherhand defining vector formats as any format with vectirs would laabel tiff and psd as vectir formats.
@Vincent i visitted Utrecht when my cousin tudied there. Nice place.

@Joojaa EPS, SVG and EMF are not vector format. They are format independent, just like PDF. You simply can not state that PDF is "vector". It's entirely inaccurate. PDF is merely a container capable of holding either raster or vector data, same for EPS, SVG, and EMF. Open a jpg in Photoshop, save it as a PDF or EPS... it's still raster.
PDF is no more a "vector format" than .psd, .eps, .svg, .tiff, .png are... but each and every one of those formats are capable of storing vector data under the right circumstances.
