it's a really bizarre case, not something I've ever done before. Complicated...basically we already sold a product to someone, she wants to buy some of the product we already sold to someone...

print was too crowded for me, and competing too much between people with connections and people with just crazy illustrative talent. Graphic design's crowded/competitive, especially now because it's a huge major that colleges push because it appeals to people. So right now, all the kids studying design migrate towards print as a default if coding seems scary or they just don't put the work in for it

thus, if you're just entering the field, print design seems to be way more competitive, while web design can be a bit of a leg up

I'm in the connections category, otherwise I certainly wouldn't be working in print

@user1803405 agreed with you there. That is why I went back to school for programming and finished awhile go. Now looking at a masters or BA of programming

finishing my first year of real full time, co-owned a company with a friend before this which was basically building a handful of websites a year, while doing misc freelance gigs

graduated in 2010, stuff was harsh, and my skills seemed to be an awkward mix of graphic and web design at the time

@user1803405 That's when I graduated as well, but for CompSci. At this point, my degree was pretty much a waste, since it has nothing to do with my job. Got started at my job as a summer position then continued full time when I graduated

Funny how our paths are sort-of the inverse of each other :)

havent found any "web design" degrees worthy of the money. It appears employeers want a portfolio AND spent money for a degree =/

web design is too bleeding edge for that, I would guess

never took any classes on it though, so I don't know :)

design principles are the same though. Learn design.. then fight like mad to stay current with the tools for web. Only difference is print tools haven't changed in 35 years.

If you get too many tickets in NY state, they give you bonus tickets

then charge you more if you can't afford to pay

after a while I just decided to never go to NY state

when I make my first mil I'll pay them

also some of it is vt, and $500 is actually an ambulanc bill, not traffic tickets

well.. ambulance bill.. gets more interesting

that wasnt related to any of the traffic tickets, just fell and caught myself on a broken window, sliced one of my thumbs

but yeah, on web design degrees it's weird. You can teach programming, you can teach design, it's hard to mix it together into web design

a lot of interaction design concepts I learned were taught using flash. We made micro sites with flash and discussed placement of things, contrast, and general interaction, whether it was intuitive, etc.

you can certainly argue flash is dead, or 90% dead, but it's not a bad platform to teach because designers weren't restricted to what they know how to code

Well, if I were to hire a web designer I would care all about the portfolio and client history and none about the degree

but I'm not exactly an employer, so :P

wouldn't say college in general is easy, but depending on your school, your program, and who you have classes with, anyone who puts the money down can wind up with a degree
