10:00 PM
lol, they'll think I'm trolling

I'll do it then :p

haha, no it's okay; I'll do that

haha okay :p
They're very nice, I don't think it'll be an issue

@slhck best of my knowledge there is no term, "numbers after the decimal" or just "decimals" is how I always hear them referred to

So, the reason is: I'm writing a program, and it compares two values.
These values should be considered the same if they don't differ after the eight number after the decimal.
Does that sound correct?
Sounds weird to me :/

10:02 PM
hmm.

I'd say you're truncating after 8 decimal places

Yeah, they suggested to say "rounded to 8 decimal places" or that they "are equal to 8 decimal places".

technically that's truncating unless you're actually rounding, but rounding is a more understandable anyway

Well in the program, I'm rounding, so that should be valid to say.

Oh, I;d just say rounded to 8 decimal places then

10:10 PM
yup :)

10:27 PM
Hey guys, I need some shopping advice - my printer literally just dropped dead after 11 years.
Do I want inkjet? Laser? What brand?

how much do you print?
and what do you print?

@slhck Mostly documents, but sometimes I need colour stuff also. Printing happens relatively often, since we've all got school assignments and stuff.

I used to have an inkjet printer, but when uni started, I invested in a HP Color LaserJet
It was the best investment ever

@slhck yeah, I'm tossing this inkjet here.
Props to Epson for making it last so long

I pay €60 for an original black toner, but I can probably print 8000 pages with it
nah, maybe even more

10:30 PM
holy.

also, there's no ink go become wet
and it's really great for color graphics too

So do you have a specific one in mind you'd recommend ?

I don't know.. the model I bought is now three years old.
it's a 2600N
it's a bit slow when printing BW (I guess 8 pages/second)

.... 8 pages a second?
You think thats SLOW?
Mine's like 1 page every 3 minutes for BW

haha
plus, it's network capable
and Bonjour-enabled

10:34 PM
Oh, thats awesome. Like via ethernet?

so, it's literally: plug in, and print
yeah

Oh wow, thats amazing

whoa, 8 pages a second?! no freaking way.

I bet thats standard now too

aaaha a minute of course :D

10:35 PM
@slhck that's better. :P

xD

the office printers don't even print 8 pages/sec :P

the only problem with the toners is that you don't expect them to get empty, and when they do, you have to buy new ones, which is expensive
but I think it's no different for inkjets
I wish I get my Amazon voucher soon, I'd totally buy my girlfriend a nice christmas present :/
(i.e. an external monitor)

haha.

@slhck lol haha
where are you getting a amazon voucher from @slhck?

10:40 PM
Well, I was promised one from the MVSU contest
remember that, haha? It's been a while :P

ah, in what form? as in, how - oh never mind, I'll go look at the MSU post @slhck :P

well, electronically

I remember - just won $100 web app suscription from Web Apps contest so am wondering hw thy will give it to me...

the only problem is that you can't redeem an Amazon.com voucher for Amazon.de

@slhck :(

10:41 PM
@studiohack That's nice! Any plans on what you're going to do with it?

if it helps anything, or if you would like me to, I can always order it (here in the US via amazon.com if the voucher is .com) and then have it ship to you, don't know if that would make anything easier, but that's an option @slhck

@studiohack I think they said they would look into buying one for Amazon.de, but thanks for the offer :)

ah, you got this @slhck - nice!
> Level 3 Prize: $100 worth of Hardware/Software from an online tech retailer, or SU swag from the SE store. (Can be a combination from both stores) – 8 awards
@slhck gonna try and get it in cash form or gift card, and I have no idea what web app I would get... not a huge web apps guy, especially paid.

@studiohack No, actually I got the Grand Prize :P

@slhck yes, you go that too. stupid memory is failing me.
> The Grand Prize: $250 worth of Hardware/Software from an online tech retailer, or SU swag from the SE store. (Can be a combination from both stores)

10:45 PM
it wasn't combined or anything, you only get one prize :)
haha

wow... I even congratulated you and forgot that. sighs

no worries @studiohack :P
Hmm.. I couldn't think of any web app I'd pay for … maybe a Google Apps domain

Netflix is okay, but our family just canceled that for time reasons, I would consider a Google Apps domain (that's the geekiest :P) and can't really think of anything else. Hulu Plus doesn't buy much
don't care about Spotify...

lol, exactly in the same second

@slhck whoa! :P

10:57 PM
I wonder what BloodPhilia is doing. Haven't seen him in like … forever.

@bloodphilia @slhck, @SimonSheehan and studiohack say hi! :) ^^
@SimonSheehan added :P

gotta love the super-ping

@slhck how do you know about that? lol yes, it is awesome

@studiohack I've been secretly learning all the Stack Exchange features :P
No, just kidding … I've been around here for a while, you eventually learn about it

@slhck hahaha :P I thought most normal users didn't know about it, wasn't sure if it was a secret or not.

11:03 PM
Saw it mentioned a couple of times, it's not that secret I guess

I could go for Microsoft Exchange Online @slhck :P

@studiohack Sounds interesting!

Exchange is Docs competitor. actually, the other way around.

I've never used it
Actually, haven't used any Microsoft products apart from Word and Excel

Docs is $10 a YEAR versus Exchange $5 a MO... so 60 versus 10 :(

11:11 PM
Oh … that's quite a difference
lol, one of my cats kinda loves the sofa
user image
3

@slhck lol!
scratch that - its $10 a year for a domain, Google Apps is free for the Domain...
so I can have a website for 10 years with what I've won :P

haha
sounds awesome!
go for it!

@slhck I already have several, hosted by weebly: studiohack.weebly.com and summitphotography.com and I already struggle with whatever to put on there :P

@studiohack Yeah, hard to fill that with content, but I like the photography :)
Anyway, it's late – I'm off. Have a nice day @studiohack!

@slhck thanks! :) probably what I would do with my domain... gonna have to figure out how to build one - could be fun!
thanks for the conversation - have a good one @slhck! :)

11:20 PM
@SimonSheehan: if you want to print fast, and relatively cheap, go laser. I tend to favour canon bubblejets myself, since i can refil them

11:39 PM
Looking at this printer currently staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/…
@slhck do I see a massive PC in the back of that picture? :O thats red

@SimonSheehan have to enter a canadian postal code

@studiohack L1E3B2

$270? that's a buncha money. :(

It is laser though. Pay more now, less later.

> Network-ready, with Ethernet interface and easy network setup
smart @SimonSheehan

11:43 PM
@studiohack Yeah, will be good since printing off the laptop was a pain :p

11:57 PM
OK It's official. I hate solidworks

I've used it... its okay

Thats a design tool right?
Sorta like AutoCAD?

@SimonSheehan yeah, but in 3D

I've never used it, but I've now spend about 2 hours trying to get the *%^&*(@#^ software to install on three clients' laptops

I thought AutoCAD did 3D :O

11:59 PM
lol

@nhinkle Sounds like me with Blender. I don't like it, but I'm slowly liking it now that I use a larger screen and can see all the freaking buttons..

Their installer is a crappy .hta that seems to have a Math.Rand() function to determine whether it'll work for you on that computer or not, and then stores the computed "will I work for you today" value by using a deep kernel-level rootkit so that once it decides not to work, IT WILL NEVER WORK.
