I have to decide if I want to see FF4 tonight or not :$
choices choices

Bob
Firefox? Final fantasy? Fast and furious?

Fantastic 4?
and I realized....
I should have simply said F4
or FF

still dont know if that was what your referring to ?

12:53 AM
@allquixotic Yep, IRC tag line

1 hour later…
2:14 AM
@Psycogeek yeah, the reviews have been hitting the net
the word is that it's a fucking disaster

@tereško 4.3 on IMDB is pretty rough.

it will fall

Might see if just for Kate Mara :3
> Toby Kebbell was the studio's first choice for the role of Dr. Doom.
Out of the trivia section on IMDB. Not realllllly trivia at all.

2:45 AM
aww shit.
I broke my wireless keyboard dongle while cleaning my desk

@JourneymanGeek HOW ARE YOU TYPING THIS?!!

3:12 AM
Very careful barking. My mechanical keyboard, which is wired

Q: How can I re-add (or un-remove) a Top Site that I accidentally deleted?

LouisI use the new tab screen as a way to quickly navigate to my frequently visited sites, and I accidentally ×'ed one off. Hitting Ctrl + Z the moment after it happened didn't undo my miss-click. How can I add it back?

Undo is like one of the coolest things ever put into computers, and computers are good at repeating stuff. My browsers has an Undo (bring back closed) and i thought i would never need it. And copy paste that is cool too :-)
When that does not work, the computer could just have a "Get Over It"
one time I lost about 6 hours of work, when a program crashed, undoubtedly when it was autosaving , because autosaves are only ever applied to programs that do crash so often. It took me 2 times as long to "get over it" as it did to re-do what I had done, recreating it all from memory in about 1 hour.
"Hey! Cortana console my loss"
Cortana: I am sorry that happend to you, i know how you must feel, now Get Over It!

4:53 AM

5:36 AM

5:56 AM
@JourneymanGeek looking lively

;p
Was cleaning out my desk, and gave the computer a quick clean
I'll crack it open again later if I get my new card today tho

why did the human feel the need to take a picture of you standing defiantly by your computer, though?

Camera was nearby. Yanno. Humans ;p
(That's ash's carpet. I 'borrowed' it while cleaning up my desk)
And of course, I needed a picture of me working on my computer ;p

6:15 AM
tenforums.com/general-discussion/2083-windows-10-bugs.html If that is all you can find wrong with the OS after 50+ pages, your not even trying. A short list of observed issues.
how many windows insiders does it take to find a bug ? One, How many does it take to get microsoft to fix it One . . . million.

7:08 AM
"even my old games look visually better on windows 10" Placebo much?
I guess that might be more likely to happen, if changing to windows 10, involved buying a new machine with it in it.

7:31 AM
@Psycogeek iPhone 4 charging cable was torn a bit and phone did not charge. Gone to local mobile smartphone store and got charging cable. It surprisingly does not work.

A: Leverage browser caching, how on apache or .htaccess?

Adam MacDonaldI was doing the same thing a couple days ago. Added this to my .htaccess file: ExpiresActive On ExpiresByType image/gif A2592000 ExpiresByType image/jpeg A2592000 ExpiresByType image/jpg A2592000 ExpiresByType image/png A2592000 ExpiresByType image/x-icon A2592000 ExpiresByType text/css A86400 ...

Are those valid pipes in a regular expression? O_o

@Boris_yo i do not know enough, but some apple charging stuff can be using more complex identification, and fast charge methods than regular stuff. You just got a cable only , and are plugging to the same power?

980ti amp and new ssd acquired.
Prolly can run a few benchmarks old and new if anyone wants

7:49 AM
@Psycogeek Same power?

8:02 AM
On regular charge stuff there was tricks that "tied the data lines" either to ground , or to eachother. these methods told devices they are not connected to a regular computer, so they could fast charge (when capable power is supplied) there was some noise that apple is actually chipped, but i am pretty sure it is a simple method, and that method may have varied in versions, even if the cable connect points did not.
So it is possible that cable just isnt triggering the device to allow for charge.

8:15 AM
OOps undo undo , noooo superuser.com/review/suggested-edits/411532 Not looking close enough i rejected that tiny edit for to small

Shame you broke your cherry on that one

Approved
And cleared out the review queue

I have actually rejected before, that 0 shows there is not correct, or applies only to a certian time frame

9:04 AM
@Bob Morning! (good afternoon/evening!) Right... What am I meant to execute this in? I do actually have Python 3.4.3 installed so I was brave and saved it as a .py and ran it... It opens a command console for half a second before it closes again. I can't see where it is dumping the data however.

run it IN a console
don't double click

Bob
@marcusdoesstuff Python :P
You'd need python 2
Here's on that takes arguments: import sys
import re
import json

singleLinePatterns = [
r'(Product name)[,]+(.*?),',
r'(Product number)[,]+(.*?),',
r'(Internal identification)[,]+(.*?),',
r'(Identified uses)[,]+(.*?),',
r'(Contains)[,]+(.*?)$'
]

singleLineMatchers = [re.compile(p) for p in singleLinePatterns]

multiLinePatterns = [
r'Physical hazards',
r'Health hazards',
r'Environmental hazards',
r'Hazard statements',
r'Precautionary statements',
r'Supplemental label information'
]

multiLineMatchers = [re.compile(p) for p in multiLinePatterns]

i ran it in shell earlier and it gave a syntax error. wrong place too?

Bob
You'd do something like python file.py "C:\path\to\file.csv"
@marcusdoesstuff Needs to be Python 2. Not Python 3.

or will it just not run in 3.4.3?
k

Bob
9:08 AM
You could try running 2to3 on it, but I don't actually know Python 3
Oh yea, @JourneymanGeek, could you delete chat.stackexchange.com/transcript/message/23268677#23268677
(I forgot to sanitise the path in it... not too important though)
Urk, paste was broken, here's the script:
import sys
import re
import json

singleLinePatterns = [
    r'(Product name)[,]+(.*?),',
    r'(Product number)[,]+(.*?),',
    r'(Internal identification)[,]+(.*?),',
    r'(Identified uses)[,]+(.*?),',
    r'(Contains)[,]+(.*?)$'
]

singleLineMatchers = [re.compile(p) for p in singleLinePatterns]

multiLinePatterns = [
    r'Physical hazards',
    r'Health hazards',
    r'Environmental hazards',
    r'Hazard statements',
    r'Precautionary statements',
    r'Supplemental label information'
]
@marcusdoesstuff ^

9:28 AM
still not quite getting this unfortunately.
do i need to add the file name into open () on this one?

9:40 AM
@bob i'm using 2.7.10 now, at least. am i correct in thinking that i'm meant to run the .py through python.exe?

Bob
33 mins ago, by Bob
You'd do something like python file.py "C:\path\to\file.csv"

i tried that and it gave me a syntax error... one sec i'll try again
file.py - this will need to be placed in /python27/scripts, yes?

Bob
@marcusdoesstuff no
Make sure the Python 2 one is in your path

sorry phone call...
@Psycogeek what the hell is that abomination?
is it better than 10 though?

9:50 AM
It is the missing link, I discovered it at area 51 , but before I could get it all downloaded, the aliens cut me off , and the bastards flew away.
It uses the new AntiGravity desktop, with Photonic browser, and Sectopain file explorer. Complete with instructions on how to build the holigrafic display.
Uses the new Mind Touch interface method. It give me a headache when used for to long.

I think I'm falling behind the times... Missing all these new software releases. :o
@bob okay i seem to be getting the correct result now. :)
@Bob how do i go about getting this into a database from here?

Bob
@marcusdoesstuff either modify the script (look up sql, python and access) or use the JSOn and import it into SQL

10:05 AM
@bob alrighty, i'll give it a go, thanks!
@bob why do some backslashes appear in the output?

Bob
@marcusdoesstuff that's just the JSON format. It denotes a literal quote appearing in the string.

Bob
If you accessed the value directly with data["Precautionary statements"][7], it wouldn't have the backslash

Bob
10:52 AM
@marcusdoesstuff I'd recommend modifying the script.
You have all the data there. Just at the bottom replace the print json.dumps with whatever DB import
You might want to get the numerical codes without the description. Look up the re module, regex, and match and group

11:19 AM
blah
I need to find a working dvd drive :/

@bob this is all making my brain melt ahhh

Bob
11:45 AM
@marcusdoesstuff well I'd imagine it'd be an insert of the primary SDS record with the single line fields, then looping through the multiline fields and inserting into the appropriate tables

12:00 PM
@bob well this feels a bit like learning calculus before knowing basic algebra at the moment. i'm a bit out of my depth as i don't know python so i have to resort to googling everything and trying to find something that works. i'm looking at pyodbc at the moment.
i'm gonna go get some lunch.

Q: MS Access library for python

VickyIs there a library for using MS Access database in python? The win32 module is not as easy as the MySQL library. Is there a simpler way to use MS Access with Python?

21
Q: What do I need to read Microsoft Access databases using Python?

Georg SchöllyHow can I access Microsoft Access databases in Python? With SQL? I'd prefere a solution that works with Linux, but I could also settle for Windows. I only require read access.

Look at how they execute statements. You just want to insert data.

or if you want to not use statements you could go for SQL Alchemy, though I am not sure if they support MSDBA

Bob
12:24 PM
@HackToHell There's no querying going on. No interactive input. It's just dumping a bunch of data into a Jet DB.

Ah then it's only an unwanted overhead then

video card update done :)

12:50 PM
Recommendations for a laptop with focus on portability, but still fast? No budget constraints.
I'm thinking 500GB SSD and i7, 16 GB RAM.

@slhck: X series thinkpads are nice.

@JourneymanGeek Are the Yoga 3 any good, actually?

I seem to recall @allquixotic might have experience with yogas

1:42 PM
Skylake i7-6700K listed (not yet accepting pre-orders): newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117559
Note that the new CPUs do not come with any thermal solution. You'll need to buy your own. Existing thermal solutions that fit the Intel premium performance platform will still work with the new socket.

heh
I saw them locally ;p
Not upgrading yet tho ;p

The thermal solution specification has been updated to PCG 2015D, which requires coolers to be able to dissipate 130W of heat for the Skylake platform.
Specified TDP is 95W, although practical heat dissipation is closer to 91W.
Lower-performance air coolers may not provide sufficient cooling capability to prevent overheating under heavy load.
(Note that Intel HEDT processors since Sandy Bridge-E have never shipped with any thermal solution.)

@JourneymanGeek I have a Yoga 2 (non-pro)

ahh
(My memory is... SQUIRREL)

1:58 PM
it has a Pentium N3540 - Bay Trail

imgur.com/a/i6YeJ#4 did a few benchmarks before swapping out my card. Malfed up catzilla (and the basic version is no kick) but this seems to chew up furmark and spit it out
ahh, not even close to what slhck wants I guess

Dammit, the Intel HD Graphics driver just TDRed on me.

@DragonLord on Win10?

Yeah.
Not the first time it's done that.

I've noticed an uptick in TDRs and graphics corruption with the latest Catalyst release on Win10
I blame it on residual bugs due to retrofitting the driver for WDDM 2.0

2:04 PM
TDR?

from Nvidia site, but it's actually a feature rooted in the core Windows kernel and written by Microsoft

ahh
not seen those with my nvidia(s)

the crux of it is like this:
Step 1: The graphics driver submits a stream of instructions/data to the GPU. The GPU, afterward, stops responding to commands. Sometimes this is normal; under rare circumstances the GPU might actually "think about" a workload for a long time and send nothing on the PCIe bus meanwhile, but usually it should only be a few seconds.
Step 2: After the arbitrarily chosen timeout is reached, the windows kernel (WDDM) goes "!!!!!! ZOMG GPU is hung!!!!" and asks the graphics driver to reset the GPU.

granted, I just swapped my card a few hours ago ;p

this can happen to any GPU, but it's most likely to happen during gaming
the TDR mechanism was released with Vista with WDDM 1.0 -- before that, if you submitted a command stream to the GPU that caused it to hang, you either got an indefinite graphics hang (freeze) causing you to have to reboot, or you got a BSOD

2:11 PM
Thinking about getting Catzilla Advanced.
I've never purchased a commercial benchmark utility before, any recommendations?

I just run them for comparison really
(and well, I don't change hardware often enough for it to be worth it for me)
In faaaact I'm annoyed that my crazy hungarian friend who loves these things is currently MIA

2:29 PM
Should I get 3DMark instead?

I have no idea

@DragonLord what are you trying to accomplish with a benchmark?

Well, I already have a sense of what my hardware can and cannot handle.
Much of the time, the Dragon is thermally constrained even with a fan behind the computer to augment the cooling.

@DragonLord: and in general, with what you do have, your drivers and bundled software do a good job on what you need.
If you want to push your system, furmark is oddly useful

I use FurMark for GPU overclock validation, not as a benchmark.

2:33 PM
which comes back to @allquixotic's question ;p
a synthetic benchmark is kinda pointless outside "How does video card A compare to video card B"

well if you don't know what you're trying to accomplish with a benchmark, it's impossible to suggest one to use

And at the end of the day, the real test to me is 'how good do my games look'

@JourneymanGeek Your human is kinda messy with his clothes :P

@ThatBrazilianGuy yeaaah. This is the spare room and those are the dish/hand towels ;p

2:40 PM
(yeah, Its basically like living in the basement, but with more sunlight)

NVIDIA ShadowPlay provides an FPS counter during gameplay and that is more useful to me than a benchmark result.

@ThatBrazilianGuy maybe that's why he looks so unamused by the aforementioned messy human taking his picture

I installed a new GPU and couldn't think of what I wanted to play

like "come on dude, stop wasting your time doing this and pick up your mess"

2:42 PM
@allquixotic: Its my mom's mess ;p

My system can max out Assassin's Creed III at 1080p, but barely so; when antialiasing is set to Very High (8xMSAA) or with TXAA enabled, it makes the GPU overheat.

@DragonLord: My old setup could max out most games at 1600x900 ;p

A true geek has no time for house chores, one's got to install beta releases of new OS's and obscure versions of cryptic distros from the past :P

wtf, Twitter doesn't support OAuth2? O_o

Right now, I'm aiming for 4k
and well, the 980ti is supposed to be able to handle it

2:44 PM
I'd target 1440p QHD as a more realistic resolution for running games at or near max settings with a single card.
My preference is greater graphical fidelity over resolution.

Bob
@slhck 13.3" or smaller

@JourneymanGeek you got a 980ti?

Yup ;p

niiiiiiice

and a new SSD
and I'll be sticking to store brand kibble till december ;p
(I figured, the heck with it. I can 1) be frugal until december and not have a kickass card I was going to get anyway 2) spend the money, get what I want, and offset it later)
(Almost bought a reference model. That's somewhat nicer, and I don't trust single squirrelcage fans.)

3:25 PM
@Bob Not smaller

Bob
@slhck I mean, you asked for a focus on portability and I'd recommend no larger than 13.3".

@Bob https://gist.github.com/marcusdoesstuff/6b4fe63f10dcca29114e
I got as far as installing pyodbc and connecting to the access .mdb... Does it look like I haven't made too many mistakes here? I need to understand SQL more next if not.

@Bob Ah, I thought it was a question :P
Yeah, I know what size I want
(It's not for me anyway)

Bob
@slhck Which one do you want?

@Bob 13.3, not smaller :P
Or something like that

Bob
3:27 PM
@marcusdoesstuff Better to not put multiple statements on one line.
On line 7 you have three declarations/assignments. And it's extremely long. Hard to read.

@bob actually i had the database driver linked properly earlier too.

Bob
Apart from that... what you've done should work.

Bob
Personally, I'd make some changes (see PEP-8 for a style guide)
Though, I don't follow PEP-8 that closely either :P
(I don't like underscores in identifiers, hence the camelCase)

so what sql commands should i be looking up to push data into the db?
'camelCase'... i like it hah

Bob
3:31 PM
@marcusdoesstuff INSERT INTO

thanks

Bob
@marcusdoesstuff Basically, you'd want to loop over data and insert appropriately

i have no idea what i'm doing still... but i'll keep poking it. :P

1 hour later…
4:51 PM
Blah this game bar of Windows 10 seems to be randomly crashing games

5:02 PM
@HackToHell what are your overall thoughts on 10 though?

5:22 PM
Hey guys, hows things?

hi moku bai

5:37 PM
I'm tempted to change that name....
@allquixotic How're you? Still travelling the world?
Or blowing stuff up in KSP?

@Mokubai i wish
in the back of my mind is a trip to england in 2017
maybe 2016 if there is money
other than being in the air over the United States, I have never been off of North America
and I've only been to the US and Canada

@allquixotic Ain't much worth seeing here...
Furthest away I've been is Jamaica

@Mokubai well my mom wants to go back to the town she grew up in in England, and pay homage to where her little sister was buried
and then we want to go to the place in Ireland that the McNamara name is from

@allquixotic Well that's a good reason to go
I'm heading westwards for a brief soujourn sometime in 2016

huh, to where?

5:47 PM
Whatever. Just bought Catzilla Advanced via Steam.

(cc @JourneymanGeek, even though it's wee hours where he lives)
$15 is no big deal

Okay, so Windows 10 apparently now supports mkv video, how do I get it to play the ogg audio contained therein?

@Mokubai mkv is just a container format; in fact, it's so flexible that it can contain anything - so, just because Windows 10 supports the mkv container format, doesn't mean that whatever codecs you use to encode the media within are supported.
you can of course install the xiph.org dshow components, but that's not "out of the box"

I know that much, so the question remains: how do I get it to play the audio?
@allquixotic Done that, no dice

5:56 PM
hrm
fair enough; ask it on the mainsite... it's probably going to come down to installing something like ffdshow and getting it to override the builtin mkv support, which means you'll be decoding using ffmpeg, not MSFT code
or, y'know, just use VLC like normal people

I'm down to 2 options: remux it with AAC or MP3 audio, or use another player

3 options. ffdshow

But VLC is slow and looks like ass

would you rather your player's UI look like ass, or play no audio? :)

Takes it like 30 seconds to work out how to load its thousands of components
@allquixotic I would like to choose neither of those options :P

5:59 PM
then you are LOST! /Kenobi
side note, VLC's long startup is not nearly as long on Linux, so I blame the Windows dynamic linker :D

Trying to find some generic mkv/ogg sample. Found one that has mp3 too, but that plays fine...
@allquixotic ffdshow looks kinda dead-ish. Last update was a year ago...

if you can't find an mkv/ogg sample, you can always use gstreamer to make one

is a good sample, fine in MPC-HC, but useless in Windows Media Player
Or do I just convert all the audio tracks and just use mkvmerge to mux them in?

what video codec are you using?

generic mp4
oh, some are divx
h.264, some divx
old divx

6:09 PM
"generic mp4" -> do you mean ASP? AVC?

all AVC video

OGV just means video in an Ogg container. The most common video codec used with this container is Theora, and we call such files Ogg Theora videos. In reality, OGV by itself is just like AVI and can handle any audio or video format.

ogg is a horrible container format though

@DragonLord I have mkv videos which contain ogg audio and h.264 video. Video is fine, audio is non-existent.

"ogg audio"? do you mean it's vorbis audio in an ogg container, or raw vorbis frames in an mkv stream?
mkv -> ogg -> vorbis would be... odd
but probably not impossible, given how flexible mkv is

6:19 PM
@allquixotic bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/samples/… is a reasonably similar sample

Windows 10 supports MKV and OGV through an updated Media Foundation, but that doesn't mean it can play every such file. That comes down to the codec. Some files will play in Windows Media Player and other players that use Media Foundation, others will not.

that should give you an idea of the codecs in there

Huy
For private use, does it make sense to use both backup and imaging software or is one of them sufficient?

@Mokubai smcnam.me/foo.mkv <--- created with gst-launch-1.0 videotestsrc name=vts num-buffers=125 ! videoconvert ! x264enc ! matroskamux name=m ! filesink location=foo.mkv . audiotestsrc name=ats num-buffers=125 ! audioconvert ! vorbisenc ! m.
smcnam.me/foo.txt <--- the play output of foo.mkv
do a Ctrl+F for vorbis in each text file and compare
(assuming one of them works in WMP and one doesn't)
if they both don't work then i dunno
ok, both are decoding to F32LE interleaved 44.1k

6:34 PM
@allquixotic nothing at all on that one, just a black screen and the time bar going across, fine in MPC-HC
weird

@Mokubai no video, you mean?
but it plays audio and video in MPC-HC?

@allquixotic no video or audio
yes, both are fine in MPC-HC

here's a media player that probably doesn't look like ass, probably isn't slow, and probably will play your video fine: oneplaydirect.com

Admittedly the battle is half won with actually having thumbnails on mkv files, so changing video player is probably not a bad thing at this point...

I like Fluendo from dealing with them in the past

1 hour later…
Bob
7:44 PM
@allquixotic For all the jokes about the tar arguments, I find media conversion far more obscure.
Every time I touch ffmpeg I spend half an hour looking up docs -_-

@Bob I'm pretty handy with gstreamer. ffmpeg, yes, hard.

Bob
@allquixotic The gstreamer command above doesn't look much easier than typical ffmpeg

8:21 PM
@allquixotic the xiph.org ogg drivers do enable ogg audio files, just not vorbis audio or such within video files it seems. ho hum.

@Mokubai It sounds like the Windows Media / DirectShow infrastructure has pretty horrific support for dynamic demuxing, then.

Aye...

In gstreamer, the Matroska demuxer "demuxes" the stream(s) of data within the Matroska container, figures out what codec is needed to decode each stream, and then passes the encoded data to each codec. The codecs don't have to care that it came from a Matroska container, and the Matroska container demuxer doesn't have to care that it's demuxing Vorbis audio as opposed to something else.
The two parts are completely modular and separate.

Bob
O_O
PrimoCache 2.0.0 is out

There's no specific code for "decoding Vorbis audio that came from a Matroska container".
It sounds like Windows Media has or would need code for that specific situation :/

Bob
8:26 PM
Over a year since the 1.0.1 release.

@allquixotic I had assumed Windows would work that way... but I'm not surprised it doesn't

Bob
> Remove the dependency of Windows Performance Counter which may corrupt on few computers.
whaaaa?
> Fix bug: Windows may suspend on entering standby/sleep or hibernation with level-2 cache enabled.
???
Suspend? Freeze?
> Fix bug: Level-2 cache content does not persist across Windows restarts when level-2 cache overhead is big.
ow.
> Fix bug: A possible race condition which may cause data error when loading the persistent level-2 cache content.
OW

hehe, "Windows may suspend on entering standby" -- #Notabug
@Bob And this was stable, commercially sold software? Sounds like Primo 1.x was effectively a beta.

Bob
> Fix bug: Theoretically, Windows may suspend when flushing deferred write-data .
theoretically

They should have fucking given it away for free with that much crap broken

Bob
8:28 PM
@allquixotic They did give the beta away for free.

@Bob but PrimoCache 1.x costs money!

Bob
Dunno if I should've expected more from them or not.
VeloSSD's site looks like it was designed sometime in the 90s.
No other SSD caching software I can find.
> Others:
Remove PrimoCache service.
...huh?
This is one of the more cryptic changelogs I've read.
@allquixotic Suddenly I'm thinking maybe I shouldn't use this.
Or maybe I should only be using it with ReFS.
Feels like I'm playing with fire :\

Will be back. Starting up Catzilla.

Bob
@allquixotic 'beta' was FancyCache
Though, Intel Rapid Start has lost my session so many times that I really can't blame these guys for bugs :\
Well, I can blame them. But they should be expected.

8:58 PM
1080p: System comes up Tiger II (7264) with GPU at stock and Tiger III (8257) with GPU overclocked.
It's a GeForce GTX 780M.
cc @JourneymanGeek
Not disappointed, and in line with my expectations.
There's a lot of room to go further, but I'll have to save up and build a new PC.
(The above results are with the system cooling augmented using a high-power case fan located behind the GPU exhaust vent to prevent overheating.)
GeForce GTX 780M: Kepler GK104, 1536 CUDA cores in 8 SMX units, 4 GB GDDR5.
Stock: Peak core clock speed 849 MHz. Memory speed 5 GHz effective.

As the windows 10 block party comes to an end, partygoers drunk on New, with interface Hors D'oeuvres , were dissapointed when the organisers had brought no meat to the table. As the weekend ends and people return to the real work, the Xhangover dragging them down, the gift plague that was going to be salvation is only the misery that makes doing anything even harder.
Not to suffer alone the huge quantity of effort put into the online interfacing, is some reprieve as they tweet and facebook the "in the same boat" misery to strangers everywhere.

expected around August 10th "Windows 10 SR1 is a cumulative update package. It will bring some new features, but the main purpose is to repair the system after release and fix the problems exposed.”

That is the second person who said they use blank as a account password. I have always thought that even if you do not require walk-up security, and even use an auto-Log-in ,that it would be critical still to have a password on the accounts.
Is it true that the same Account name and password use to log-in locally, is what is used to log-in from outside via the net or internet?

That said, I'm inordinately fond of cccp for codecs
