@ÃŁŁǫǛȉЖΦΤїҪ something you might appreciate and gloat about ;)
My moblile phone data speed (HSDPA internet):
and my home broadband:

Would localhost be the correct host for a mysql connection from node.js?

@Mokubai Wait, what? Your home broadband is worse than mine? O_o

@ThatBrazilianGuy damn straight my landline sucks
it peaks at around 5.8Mbps when everyone in the neighbourhood is asleep...

7:28 PM
Curse those people listening to Internet radio...

What, were you expecting faster speeds?
And what's a Canadian Luke doing in a British ISP?

British Columbia

@CanadianLuke -.-

I, in my turn, curse those people in social networks, gaming, downloading series torrents...

I am so confused D:
I have been attempting for a 2 solid hours to get this app working. I do not understand how I cannot get it to work.

@JordanRichards Aren't we all? It's called "human condition".
@JordanRichards I know nothing about node, so I can't help you

@ThatBrazilianGuy ok

@JordanRichards I've never used it, but I can't help you if I don't know what's wrong
it's all about details -- error messages, log outputs, command lines, and so on and so forth
I need evidence of a problem
so far all I have is "doesn't work"
that's not actionable

Yeah
I realized that a moment after I asked.
The truth is, I have no idea either.
I guess the code may just be outdated with twitch's api

don't guess; test your theories

Yeah, I am so bad at it as I have little knowlage of the api

Quick question--what happened to the "Too Localized" close vote option? I distinctly remember it being here last time I used the site.

@digitxp got nuked along with NARQ

Q: Closing changes: on hold, unclear, too broad, opinion-based, off-topic reasons, bye-bye to Too Localized

JaydlesAfter a ton of discussion, work and input from the community, we're rolling out the remainder of major closing changes that you've helped us design, as discussed in these prior posts. They're live, network-wide RIGHT NOW!!! See also: http://blog.stackoverflow.com/2013/06/the-war-of-the-closes/ ...

you must use the site very infrequently :)
> asked Jun 12 '13

@digitxp Too localised and NARQ were prone to people abusing the close-vote system to just rid the site of chaff without having to actually think about why they were closing it

As Stack Exchange continues to expand to serve new audiences, we’re constantly on the lookout for folks who can take the principles and practices we all hold dear and communicate them effectively to the folks who would otherwise find them strange and difficult. I’m happy to announce we’ve found another of these rare specimens in the form of Joshua Maciel:

Josh joins us remotely from beautiful Kansai Japan, where youthful ignorance brought him for a two-year stay (maximum!) to teach English. Eleven years later he still hasn’t left, having found gainful employment doing internat …

@Mokubai So if you ask a question about an ultra-rare model of random Android tablet or something crazy like that, I'd classify it as OT?

Yep. As per the Help centre Android tabs and phones are off-topic.
I'm a little iffy about Android on a PC though...

8:36 PM
@ThatBrazilianGuy How do you get the CLI version?

@CanadianLuke Ugh... I like those speeds.

If I connect directly to my server and can use a command line to test the speed, it'll be even faster

You guys saw the $15 carboard Goguclus Raft? developers.google.com/cardboard

@ÃŁŁǫǛȉЖΦΤїҪ Around? You told me you were familiar with batch so.. Do you happen to know if/how I can pass multiple command to cmd.exe? I know I can pass one with either the /C or /K flags (when calling the cmd program), but how do I pass multiple commands?
I tested with: (in a windows run dialog) cmd.exe /K echo "Test", cls and using a ; instead of a comma, but it always treats it as an extension of the echo command.

@Seth I don't recall saying I was familiar with batch, and I rather hate the Windows command prompt, but I think that is because echo tries to eat everything after it ;p

@Seth The Run dialog is very different. Try from within the command prompt window itself
What are you trying to accomplish?

cmd.exe /K echo "Test" > fil & cls
type fil
the > fil is just for proof that the echo worked... the file fil gets populated with the output of the echo

@CanadianLuke I'm writing a script in powershell, the problem is it doesn't support everything I want to do. There are some cmd commands that will do it though so I was trying to open a cmd window and run them from there. I was just hoping to do them all at once instead of one at a time.
@ÃŁŁǫǛȉЖΦΤїҪ Sorry, perhaps it was another user.. Thanks though :)

@Seth see my recent message

9:17 PM
@ÃŁŁǫǛȉЖΦΤїҪ Ah, fancy way of getting around it.

use & instead of ,, and put quotes around the entire thing

I think I'll try something without echo as well.

I'd suggest using either a batch file, or a .PS1 file. I'm more comfortable in batch scripting, so I'd recommend batch file personally. You can call other Powershell scripts from the command line

@CanadianLuke Ah, I hadn't thought of that.. The only problem is that means more files to deploy for it to work..

Nothing wrong with that. I use PDQ Deploy to do it

9:19 PM
Unless I wrote the batch script from within powershell.. not sure it can do that.

Especially if you have all the required files on a network share, it can connect there, run the commands from the server, and be done

@Seth PowerShell can do anything; it's a general interface to .NET
hell you could write a feature-complete web browser in PowerShell if you wanted

Thanks guys! You've given me a lot to chew on for a while.

No problem! Good luck
And, as always, keep it blue ;)

lol, now I feel stupid. Looking closer at what @ÃŁŁǫǛȉЖΦΤїҪ suggested I found that just using cmd.exe /K echo "Test" & cls works just fine. facepalm.
I have zero idea why I didn't think of trying &...
Learned some good stuff anyway. Thanks again!
@CanadianLuke Is that supposed to mean keep using Windows?

9:23 PM
No, keep being a mod :P

Ah, ok cool :P
I was gonna say, I mod the Ubuntu site, I think they'd fire me if I kept using Windows ;)

I mod on Freelancing, but I have a day job :P

lol

and slhck mods on SU, but he prefers Mac
BLASPHEMY

Hey, I thought SU was supposed to be the all accepting, any OS goes kind of place. rage quits.

9:33 PM
I bet there are some sysadmins who are mods on SO... ?
Brits modding japanese.SE? :P
Believers in Hindu modding Christianity.SE? :P

@ÃŁŁǫǛȉЖΦΤїҪ hehe

actually, more stark than any of those would be: a Free Software Foundation employee modding AskDifferent ;D

lol
@ÃŁŁǫǛȉЖΦΤїҪ: funny thing is I'm not sure if we have any mods who mainly use linux

:(

(I MIGHT come the closest. I clearly use it more than OS/2)

9:42 PM
Looking at how much blue is in here lately... We should make this the moderator's hangout

I'm clearly bucking the trend, with my italicized, black, unicodey name

That's why you can't be a mod :P jk jk!

9:58 PM
lol

I want to edit the first message ever said in RA to be something like "Ducks dream of places where their webbed feet don't get caught in the seaweeds; this is one such place."
censorship foiled!

Sweet, I can see the edit history too!

I'm not convinced, OP just posts shitty answers

I'm doing it based on the link
Very, very shitty answers...

10:13 PM
@CanadianLuke Well that's certainly an interesting way to spell Rebecca lol

... And answering low quality questions, by new users... I'm wondering if there's something else going on with that account...
@JourneymanGeek Are there any other weird things on their account?

other than an answer ban?

"No man its not possible because windows OS has configured with advanced intelligent settings that will that will automatically identify the primary mouse but you can use that arrow from both of your devices."

Best answer.

I attempted this yesterday, but failed. Spent all day today in putty. I just wanted to ask what would be the best way to approach running a .NET app (twitchmodbot.sourceforge.net) on mono? (I have no idea how I would interact with the interface, as it is designed for windows) I use CentOS 5

10:54 PM
@JordanRichards if you're trying to run a GUI, you will need to use a lot more than just putty -- you'll have to start an X11 server, e.g. through Xrdp, then RDP into it, then launch that program from there
looks like that modbot is inherently GUI-based and doesn't support a CLI

I have X11 installed, I think

Wow, PowerShell is really awesome.

I have no idea how to do it though

@JordanRichards no, you need Xrdp (there are other alternatives but this one is the easiest; trust me)

@ÃŁŁǫǛȉЖΦΤїҪ oh ok

10:57 PM
then you'll need some kind of desktop environment running within it, so you can get to a command prompt, and run your program :)
(this is all assuming you have mono installed and working already)

Is there an acrticle that explains how to do this? It sounds really hard

@JordanRichards trying to do just about anything on CentOS 5 is really hard; either a newer version of CentOS, or another Linux distro, will have more, and more up to date packages, which should make things a lot easier
personally I prefer and recommend Debian Stable, but CentOS 7 should be good, too

Yeah
I want to stay on centos5 for the time being
Will you be on tomorrow?

I'm the #3 all-time contributor to this room, ever. what do you think?

@ÃŁŁǫǛȉЖΦΤїҪ Wow, good job! I think you will be on ;)

11:02 PM
@JordanRichards bingo

@ÃŁŁǫǛȉЖΦΤїҪ was his name-o!

@MichaelFrank oh hush, New Zealand! ;-)

@ÃŁŁǫǛȉЖΦΤїҪ Well, thank you! I shall see you tomorrow then! :)

eh. I kinda wish mod tools would tell me where traffic to a specific question is coming from.
/me is getting a crapload of views and SR rep off that windows 98 question...

@ÃŁŁǫǛȉЖΦΤїҪ Heh, I'm this close to catching up to @JourneymanGeek

ooh. I could hit 100K!

@JourneymanGeek prolly mostly from hot network questions list

@Bob: I don't recall seeing it there though

The list is somewhat random.

nightrobinGood day, Here is the situation. I am to propose a thesis topic, about people tracking in our school. He's clearly not indian

@JourneymanGeek I can have a doubt about what his nationality really is
