Grah, this laptop has HDMI out. I do not have a spare TV. I only got monitors (with dp, mini-dp and DVI in)

@Hennes There are HDMI-to-DVI adapters

Aye. I have none
Usually I just connect DVI to DVI or DP to DP.
I own HDMI to DVI adaptor, I guess that might work.

> There are HDMI-to-DVI adapters

!!wat

With even more frustration attached to it>

An USB to HDMI graphics card which might work, but which failed badly with 90 degree rotated monitors.

12:10 AM
There are blue cars. Aye. I have none. I own a blue car, I guess that might work.

I lost track of that gadgets in it package of horror
@ThatBrazilianHeadlessHorse Shht. Or I will ship to a 80486.
@ThatBrazilianHeadlessHorse You cannot have the blue car and eat it.

eeew, no. no. no.

I'm going to assume whoever starred this ---^ is a mod or room owner and thus was able to see what I had removed.
In this case: I'm sorry. I truly am.

I didn't see it, but I can guess

...and now I made every non-RO curious or confused.
Good. Good.

@BenN Whatever you think it is, that's exectly what it's not.

5:37 AM
Hi!
@Burgi Did you get a chance to look at the code?

6:17 AM
hi

Morning!
I woke up really early (5.30 am) as smoke alarm was beeping (needed new batteries). Can't get back to sleep :/
So I might be a bit grumpy today :)

6:50 AM
@DavidPostill I hate when that happens :P

oh god, I had a traumatic experience with that a few years ago
due to low battery, my smoke detector malfunctioned and went off instead of just the occasional annoying beep
it went, "BEE-DOO BEE-DOO! BEE-DOO BEE-DOO! FIRE IN CHILD'S BEDROOM!"
that sent a chill down my spine and I wasn't able to have a normal resting heartrate for at least an hour or two after that
scared the absolute shit out of me at 3 AM

@DavidPostill We... don't have smoke alarms
I remember that when I'd gone for an international robotics competition to Australia, someone from Thailand smoked inside the complex and all the alarms went off. The whole place had to be evacuated... That wasn't fun.

1 hour later…
8:04 AM
ugh. Its almost 4 and I've not had lunch yet

Damn with a QR code

that's a thing these days
I think its handy, but the QR codes point nowhere yet

its a url then?

iirc it should point at a specific error page
It points to windows.com/stopcode
imagine if you could point your phone at an error page and it'll immediately point you at the KB page

yah thatd be xcool

11:44 AM
then agin that error page right now tells you nothing
at least provide some kinda error

"point nowhere yet"
see? ;p

what if your phone has no interwebs
give me an error as wel

@djsmiley2k @JourneymanGeek the only really useful pages are the MSDN ones which have details (including what the parameters mean). unfortunately, they're not really designed for consumers, and the new bsods don't have the params on them anymore anyway

1:02 PM
'When I boot it, it always fails the first 1-3 times'
cleearly doesnt understand always

1:14 PM
@djsmiley2k Could well be a non-native English speaker. We do have a few on the SE network ...

hi

Afternoon!

You were talking about me?

@jokerdino Really? ;p

I am non-native speaker of Englando.

1:22 PM
@jokerdino Of course, Dinosaurs are extinct, so they cannot be native to anywhere :)

:(

Luckily they are not people either, so you can't take anything said as a personal insult ...
@all Please flag this question superuser.com/questions/1128109/…

I was reasonable.

@mukbai @JourneymanGeek Can one of you please deal with superuser.com/questions/1128109/… and the user superuser.com/users/645125/user628916?
We need more flags to get it closed and off the Super User questions page :/

1:39 PM
Why do you even engage him?

@jokerdino Because I'm feeling grumpy!

@DavidPostill but people like this do it for attention.
I didn't even bother with a mod message here
alas, there is no way to send someone to bed without dessert over the internet...

@JourneymanGeek His other accounts look well behave at first glance.

@DavidPostill maybe so that he can get on chat...
also, mostly tumbleweedy questions
but someone who posts a string of cusswords here clearly isn't here to learn/share

Q: Can I get notified when my comment is deleted

ringøTwo days ago I replied to a comment (under my own question, which happened to be closed later). To my surprise my last comment was seemingly deleted by an admin. The comment was acceptable, as I recall. But it was maybe no relevant anymore (since the question was then closed). But that's prett...

3:23 PM
@DavidPostill Too bad PS just does an implicit -join on arrays when you try to use them in string interpolation :(

@Bob Whoosh. That went right over my head :/

Bob
heh, whoops. @BenN I was toying with dropping the $ but forgot to :P
oh well

You only need that inside an interpolated string :)

Bob
@BenN yea, it's something I got used to from bash
maybe I should've made that answer a comment..?
bleh. comment formatting sucks.

@Bob Question has hit HNQ :)

4:41 PM
revolutionary!

5:22 PM
aww
Answered a couple of HNQs elsewhere, one on the iconic Monopoly "do not pass GO, do not collect $200" card, the other on an axial inductor
15
A: Should I get $200 for passing "Go" if I then get a card that says "don't collect $200"?

bwDracoYes, the player collects $200. To understand this, let's step through each action the player takes. First, the player passes GO during normal movement of his/her token. The GO square reads: Collect $200.00 salary as you pass GO Read plainly, this means the player collects the $200 the mo...

anyone familiar with office 365?

5:46 PM
A little, what's up?

6:00 PM
@BenN well I was trying to add my institutions email to the Windows 10 Mail app. It asked me some question about adding my device to their network or authorizing it or something like that (I wish I had grabbed a screenshot). I said yes, but now it wants to change security settings on the PC, to fit their security model. I can't seem to figure out how to un-authorize the machine/undo what I did.
I'm sorry the question is kinda of vague.

Ah, it seems they have some sort of device management policy on their mailboxes
I haven't worked with such policies before, but I'll try to find something...

@BenN Yes, that's what it is. I the account set up on both the Outlook Android app and the actual desktop Outlook app with no issues so it can't be mandatory.
@BenN nope, that option does not appear in the Control Panel.
I never actually accepted the changes, but I can't view the inbox without accepting them. Hence the need to undo whatever I did to make it think this device belonged to the institution.
Let me dig through the Windows 10 settings.
All the institution/work settings are clean in the Windows 10 settings. Whatever happened happened on the other end, I think.

Some forum post suggests updating the Mail app, though I'm not sure exactly how to do that

huh. let me check the store
not sure why that would fix it tho
hmm, nope. No updates for the Mail app. It was updated yesterday.

Are you a local admin on the machine?

6:13 PM
@BenN yes. it's my personal machine.
I think I'm going to have to contact the school... It must have been some change somewhere on their end that I opted in to in that dialog.

It might have also set something in your local Group Policies; is there anything configured in gpedit.msc?

ooh I might have just found it.
@BenN Group policies aren't enabled..

I had just seen a forum post mentioning some entries in the Policies section of the Registry, so I was just checking :)

@BenN I'm pretty sure it happened somewhere in my office365 settings online, not on the local machine.. It had to connect to the network and add my device to something.
I really wish I had taken a screenshot.
I guess I am just stuck using the desktop Outlook.

6:41 PM
Something so bizarre happened.
My connection wasn't down, I could view websites just fine, but youtube videos and facebook wouldn't start.
I had to restart my computer, and things wordked afterwards. I felt like I was back in Windows.

6:53 PM
sounds like a dns issue

Who knows. But I doubt it. I changed no network settings, nothing.
Maybe if was Firefox.
But I'll never know

7:05 PM
"Yahoo confirms major breach — and it could be the largest hack of all time". Kind of late as of 2014...

so i ordered a new mobile for my mum last week. the website said it was in stock and i got a confirmation email saying it would be delivered by friday
it still hasn't arrived
so i phoned them up today querying it
turns they haven't had it in stock since august and they have put it on backorder
their advice was check all the local stores to see if any of them had it
which kind of defeats the point of ordering it online
also why can't they check the store stock for me and tell me which one to go to
or even get the fracking store to mail it to me?

Historic Yahoo breach from late 2014 discovered—conside‌r changing passwords if you haven't done so recently
My account, oddly, might not be affected, but I've taken preliminary steps to add security.

7:55 PM
how do you find out if you were affected?

@Burgi haveibeenpwned.com is one place to check. I don't know if they have access to the yahoo data yet.

hmmm..... why does that feel like a honeypot....
> Good news — no pwnage found!

8:12 PM
Now I have a sudden desire to register honeypot.com.

hi
where is the system error in windows 10
i got a message that says my graphic stop rendering

Are you looking for the event logs? eventvwr.msc is the Event Viewer

yes

Hmm
I don't think I will open it @Hennes

Why not.

8:16 PM
@Hennes It might be nasty :)

VirusTotal thinks the site is clean, but I'm not going to try it :)

Real life example (around the year 2000-ish).
Outlook is vulnerable to a virus. Open an i love you.doc.exe mail and you get infected.
Admin (us!) warn the users,
A secreatary reads the warning, receives an infected mail AND OPENS IT JUST TO SEE HOW A VIRUS LOOKS!

8:33 PM
understandable reaction

9:29 PM
dont see anything wrong with that firefox dialog
i see a misconfigured server if anything
mimetypes r hard mkay
:)
now back to work, bbl8s

@GuitarShoeDave It was the result of browsing to honeypot.com ...
Hi @ThatBrazilianHeadlessHorse

You feeling more awake today?

Well, I am awake. I am also in bed, still wearing pajamas, at 6:40pm.

Hmm. I can't think of a witty response to that ...

9:52 PM
@DavidPostill are you on XP still?

@Burgi What? I've been on Windows 7 almost since it was first released.

it doesn't look like a win7 dialog...

Windows Classic - I just hate Aero :)

it has been a long time for me though...

9:56 PM
ah lol

bbl agan!

@DavidPostill Wait, is that a real dialog?

@ThatBrazilianHeadlessHorse Yes. When I browsed to honeypot.com.

yeah httpd server using content type httpd/unix-directory for a directory and his browser doesnt understand how to open it.

So I thought I'd see if there was something there already.

I wget'ed it and opened the HTML file in nano. Seems legit like one of those parked domains

@BenN Huh? I don't get the same

Maybe it varies based on user agent?

Good point
@DavidPostill: Post the User agent string
of your browser*

@GuitarShoeDave Not that I know of. Unless my mobile provider has some strange proxy.

10:10 PM
They may to save costs.
Could confirm if i knew what your user agent string was though.

brb

PowerShell's user agent is Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT; Windows NT 10.0; en-US) WindowsPowerShell/5.1.14393.187

@GuitarShoeDave Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; Win64; x64; rv:49.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/49.0

Ah, sure enough, when I tell PowerShell to use Chrome's user agent, I get a boatload of stuff

And i just realized im not in windows... im compiling android 7.0 in linux
However.. if you download fiddler (its amazing!!) to use to craft requests easily
I guess i could use netcat
but i gotta take a #2 real quick

i'm glad i went camping last week, the temperature is due to plummet in the next few days
i reread the first 2 books in the saga of the seven suns series
still not that impressed by them
i hate the myriad of characters and the stupid "elementals"

It's already getting cold here in New York.
