11:28 PM
@ArtOfCode @Burgi yup! I am looking for a Mac. My budget is pretty low at the moment though. I'm also in the US. But if you have any leftover you want to sell :)

Bob
@bwDraco Warning, planet may spontaneously detonate?

@Seth i'll give you a shout when we have cleaned them up

@Burgi alright!

did you see the list?
they are roughly £300 each

Hey look guys I'm back

11:37 PM
I did see the list. Let me convert that to local currency.

they've held their price amazingly well, sadly

So my brother gave me a cheap chinese joystick saying that it's broken and that I "promised" to fix it
The only thing wrong with it is a really frayed USB cable.
The disassembly was really easy, all it took was 6 screws.
But I don't really know the best approach on how to repair the cable
I just used some rusty pliers to remove the cable but it's so tightly bundled that it's dang near impossible to splice it.

we have roughly the same number of desktop PCs, roughly the same or better spec... £60 each... >.<

@oldmud0 is it soldered directly to the board?

11:40 PM
Well, the good thing is that the individual wires are exposed very well before they reach the main board.

@Burgi I think £205 is all I can come up with at this moment. I completely realize that isn't a lot of money for a Mac, which is why I wasn't looking very hard. Just need to save a little more, I guess ;)

Resolder whole cable. Resolder at the board

Okay

@Burgi Yeah, it drives me crazy. really the only thing you're paying for is the logo and the ability to run OSX legally. The actual internals aren't something worth phoning home about at the price point.

The interesting thing is that it has wires for PS2 (yes, PlayStation 2) and USB going through the same cable

11:41 PM
If it was a nice joystick I'd consider a socket
Much neater and more mechanically reliable

hmm yeah

they might not even make it to general sale yet, staff might snaffle them first :)

there's no usb female in reach though

If it's cheap crap.... Strategic hotsnot

@Burgi At that price I would if I could afford it. £300 for a 2013 iMac really is a deal!

11:42 PM
a usb female... now there is an idea...

Well, it was bought pretty cheap, but the construction is surprisingly good as well as the joystick.

hehe

The whole assembly looks to be just a few parts.
Lemme see what the microcontroller is..

@Seth i really want one of the newer macbooks but i think they are all in use
you never know though

Inno MP30401Q

11:45 PM
nobody knew the imacs were there until last week
there could be a stack of macbooks in a cupboard

@Burgi I hope you have some sort of inventory system planned...

yeah

At least a spreadsheet
Costs nothing, except maybe an intern with a label printer

we are getting a roll of asset stickers printed and then its probably going to be a weekend with a spreadsheet logging EVERYTHING

Pity you Arn't local. Else I'd offer my services :p

11:48 PM
Go LibreOffice Base?

Naw. Spreadsheet is perfectly fine
It's that or a full blown solution

Oh look, Innosystem Technology is another worthless Shenzhen-based company.
All the numbers on the chip are also meaningless. Great.

i think there is a mod for OSticket that might suffice

Oh it's a Mayflash fighting stick.
Good to know..
