@JourneymanGeek 'night

It's afternoon!

YOU PEOPLE AND YOUR TIMEZONES.
(of course, mine is the most messed up timezone of all. I share it with parts of china, and the soviet union russia)

No need to fight. It's currently time().

12:58 AM
The Ad-block Add-On fails to remove those pictures of Katy Perry's (?) mug shot and some dude's hand from GNC with goo on it. I've tried to block them more than once, any suggestions?

@Mazura Are you sure they're all hosted by the same cdn?

Hm. Which reminds me. I need to switch my systems over to ublock

1:15 AM
@Michael, I'm not sure but thanks for the suggestion. I've added a manual filter and they gone... for the moment. I'm guessing some redirect was out smarting ABP. The offending sites were totallifeguru.com and redirected from clicksifter.com. Perhaps it's time to find some new filters.

1:27 AM
Or write them :p

A friend almost logged into ukrca.com by mistake. Looks like a complete SU rip-off. :/

Almost complete?
@Karan: Could I get you to report that through the contact us link?
I'd do it myself but I'm at work ;p

I'll do it too :D

5:02 AM
baaad site, tried to do evil things. Nice mirror, but links are trying to install shit.
And it looks like the log-in would happily accept your data , to (undoubtedly) use for evil purposes.
I think we should find people doing this , and Downvote Them! :-)

Probably learned how to scrape/clone a whole site from a SU question :-)
Did you ever see questions on SU, and think , Gosh i hope the intent here is not for evil purposes.
Like No i am not really willing to show you how to transfer 5000 e-mail addresses out of a document.
@JourneymanGeek when you get off work, you could try your moderation powers there :-)

naw. They can get their own second rate knock off canine mod.

Up tp date, and don't they even have the new profile page items?
Some links can drop you back into SE real.
Ohhh this could be fun. I can ask all the joke questions i have avoided for so long.
It is like having a SU sandbox to play on.

Well, decided to push the button after all... reddit.com/r/thebutton/comments/33fz83/…
It was supposed to be an April Fools joke. Three weeks later, the button is still there.

I still have one alt account !

@HackToHell That's a very chatty protocol. TCP itself is only SYN, SYNACK, ACK, actual message, FIN, FINACK, and it never communicates message length apart from the headers of the packets themselves - that's all on a higher layer.
Poor joke 2/10 :P

8:38 AM
:P
When will Windows 10 be launched ?
Will there be a event here like for Windows 8 ^_^
Oh lookie a july launch

Still needs confirmation from Microsoft.
And, yes, please, I need a new T-shirt because the last one was stolen.

Same here, i didn't even get it :(

Someone explain that cable to me

hmm
someone misusing USB?
hm, google suggests its for a DVR

@JourneymanGeek The client who ordered it needs it for a pipe inspection camera thing
He said it originally came with that cable

makes sense. USB abuse.

And he wants to plug the USB end into his laptop to capture the video
I told him that it probably isn't going to do shit
He insisted on purchasing the cable
And who am I to refuse a customer a wish?

lol
That sounds like a horrible idea

1:06 PM
At first I didn't even believe that such a cable exists

Bob
@Karan @JourneymanGeek They're actually connecting directly to SU/SE for websockets, and horlinking for JS/CSS.

I was like "Yeah, right, Cinch to USB, gtfo"

Bob

adfs are from the oksmf.com/tony.js script
which itself (www.oksmf.com) is a clone of some other site

1:23 PM
Do not google oksmf.com

I did now

Bob
@JourneymanGeek ...ooookay
the root domain seems to be a clone of a file sharing site

That's probably the best way to get us to google it :D

Bob
but the google results are rather... more NSFW
(for the /movies/ path)

ponders meta

Q: Dump the [dump] tag off

Canadian Lukedump is useless. Most questions are about memory dumps, and are tagged memory already

Bob
1:30 PM
so they're cloning more than one site

Isn;t a dump in computer terms always a memory dump

Never seen that one before

> Please Ensure password has two uppercase letters, one special case letter, two digits, three lowercase letters and min length 8
What is "special case"?
I only know upper and lower

3:54 PM
@OliverSalzburg maybe something like subscript/superscript? :D

@allquixotic In the end, I turned on all the options in the password generator and got something that works
I was actually surprised, because usually websites don't handle those kinds of passwords well

5:22 PM
@Bob Wow, so that site's part of a network for rip-offs. @HackToHell: Thanks for reporting, I wasn't free to do it when @JourneymanGeek suggested it.

The Community Team’s first and most important job is to help you, the users. Every day, we hang out on meta sites and in chat, watching to make sure that someone is working on your problems. Until very recently, community managers also fielded each and every request that came through our support ticketing system.

(And before that, Jeff Atwood handled them all. The whole team@ inbox, singlehandedly.)

Our approach to customer service via email has changed as the network has grown: we’ve tried many new processes and tools over the years to help community managers handle team@ efficientl …

Hi guys, what is the best free virus remover?

8:47 PM
A simple DISKPART with the CLEAN option ;-)

@OliverSalzburg I cant believe there is any regular computers usb in the world or any ammount of software that could get that to work. i could believe that a device exists in the world that uses the same USB connection though to pass analog video signals, after alll it is just one of the many ways that have been used to pass analog video. scart, 10pin, 14pin (rounds) bnc, stereo 3.5 plugs (4pin).

Oh fuuuuuuuuck
1st level deleted this guys offline file cache as they were having trouble syncing...
Guy loses over 900 files
Wasn't even relevant to the original problem he called up with.

11:44 PM
@JANORTS: best is relative.
Common sense is best.
I tend to rely on using a limited user account for day to day use as a first line of defence.
and just throw on whatever free AV is suitable on top of that
