12:00 AM
I think my cat is wireless; she's a connecticat!
only thing that explains why i don't have to plug her in

1 hour later…
Bob
1:19 AM
@DragonLord It's pretty good.

3 hours later…
4:26 AM
Whoa, that is beautiful

4:59 AM
Had some performance issues with a Linux-based workload on my Hyper-V server the past day or so—turns out the power management system was causing the processor to constantly clock up and down
Spending some time with powercfg to force the processor to always run at full clocks when on AC (this is an old laptop converted to a server) fixed the issue

5:47 AM
@JourneymanGeek looks built well. I had a metal base almost arcade build joy and throttle setup, obsoleted by the "game port" :-(

@DragonLord: I'd say laptops arn't good virtualisation servers but... I'm running a vm server on something even worse ;p

@JourneymanGeek As in what?

@DragonLord: passively cooled NUC class machine with a celeron processor and a laptop hard disk

Yeah, I'm just repurposing old hardware, it's not ideal
@JourneymanGeek RAM, processor?

Processor, 4gb of ram
(which maxes it out)
Its a pretty damned fantastic utility system

5:58 AM
@JourneymanGeek Sure, it's great for web browsing or as a low-power server, but not what you'd want for running VMs
My laptop has 8 GB of RAM and a quad-core AMD Phenom II N930 processor
Not the fastest or most efficient, but it works

@DragonLord: hence me saying "something even worse"

What hypervisor are you running?

KVM
Nothing major yet though, just occational disposable VMs for testing

4 hours later…
9:36 AM
Always fun, someone offering to buy http://superuser.com from us: "$420 for the domain to compensate you for your registration costs"

1 hour later…
10:39 AM
Unless you have seen just how stupid your software can be at times, avoid using the word "Smart" to describe it.

2 hours later…
1:06 PM
how can I use the motherboard speaker to play something?
(that speaker which plays boot up codes, ya know?)

2 hours later…
3:04 PM
This just got deleted, but I wanted to share the sheer epicness of this

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Linky?
Heh. The inverse of the normal question (screenshot?).

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Thanks.
@JourneymanGeek I feel like that's the kind of thing you'd have more luck finding by searching gopher or BBS archives :P

;p
Those bird drawings! ;p

3:23 PM
hii
i stayed up until 3:42 playing Distant Worlds: Universe o_O

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Any chance you can pull Synetech in here? If he's still interested, I might have a couple leads :P
@allquixotic I guess it's good?

@Bob 4x space real-time strategy pulls me in :P
Sins of a Solar Empire was great, and so is this one

Bob
I'm still hunting for something I can play on my laptop.

@Bob: In theory I can abuse superpings, but I would rather not ;p

this is so epic that the introductory game (marked by the tutorial as just getting your feet wet) is on a map with something like 250 star systems, and each system might have multiple planets you can colonize, and each planet can have its own buildings, troops, ships, spaceports, etc
the introductory game of Galactic Civilizations is like: here's a map! here's 2 planets! go capture the other one!

Bob
3:26 PM
@JourneymanGeek Well, the alternative would be for me to drop an off-topic comment on one of his other posts :P

there are like 20 races to deal with on the map

Bob
Eh, might as well search more.

Bob
@allquixotic Honestly, I'd probably be overwhelmed and give up at some point.
I have a bad habit of overplaying open-ish tutorials, getting bored, and quitting :\
wow that homophone typo
wtf brain

@Bob that's the thing -- it's not even a tutorial
it's an introductory game
the introductory game is supposed to be a fairly bog standard game
it varies from starting a regular new game in that they don't let you customize stuff before it starts
you know: galaxy size, number of opponents, difficulty
this is supposedly a medium sized galaxy
and like I said there are probably 200 stars and like 900 planets
the automation is good, though. really good -- you can automate nothing, everything, or anything in between
you can set the automation and notification settings to a level that allows you to make decisions you consider important, while letting the AI take care of the rest
so if you get tired of doing the same thing over and over, just automate it

Bob
3:34 PM
brb creating a Win3 VM
> Seven disk set of floppies for Windows 3.0 installation in 720KB IMA format. Requires MS-DOS 6.22. DO NOT set the display driver to VGA in installation - screen will go black after "win" typed and OS will not load. Select "QuadVGA, ATI VIP VGA" or similar instead.
O_O
ok, suddenly I don't think VMware is a good choice

Bob
too much effort => gives up
maybe some other day

@JourneymanGeek would like Distant Worlds: Universe :P

you know why? because you can use mass drivers against enemy planets rather than taking them over with a ground invasion, and when you do that, your reputation with all other empires tanks, which makes it harder to stay at peace with them and in treaties, etc

3:39 PM
@allquixotic: XD. I have a pile of games to play. Alternating between bioshock, and russian cyberdog game ;p

capital worlds tend to have a huge number of people on them, so if you bombard a capital until it has no one living on it, your reputation becomes "Diabolical"

lol
or "Centauri" ;p

I love that show too much

lol there's a pile of junk in the back of my room and curiosity made my cat try to walk over it... after stumbling a lot she made it back out ok
first thing, she put her front paws up on the edge of where it starts and loooooked like, "hmmmm...!!!"
then she got back and looked at me and I pet her
then she did the same thing again, and daintily put a paw on a tissue box, and started her climb
she almost made it back to where my clothes are hanging before she realized nothing edible was back there :P

3:43 PM
lol
ash would glare, "book" and demand that they be moved away ;p

the game played on 4x speed in "Rule In Absence" automation mode for 5 hours before it crashed with OOM... and it had already been running for like 8 hours before that
fortunately it was saving every 25 minutes so I'll load up later to see how far my conquest got
or if the AI played my race so poorly as to let it die

I had a huge lead over the next empire, and had a formal alliance with like 5 other empires (out of 20 or so), and the next most powerful empire militarily was my closest ally, so I figure the AI probably declared war on some guy and overtook at least a couple of empires
my military might was around 85k when I went to bed, and the nearest competitor, my best ally, was around 20k... below him, most empires were less than 10k, and one of my other allies, not nearly as close though, was at 12k
and like 4 empires were under 1k because they lost a war pretty badly but the enemy couldn't take over their homeworld and didn't have the guts to ruin their reputation by being Londo Mollari

;p
Londo has nothing to do with it ;p

he set the events in motion I thought

3:48 PM
I SEEM to recall it was cartagia.

yeah, but that wouldn't have been possible if Londo had refused the shadows' help

Not directly. He was suprisingly horrified at what happened
Oh true

or, you know, if he went and told the Vorlons what they were doing to him, how they were manipulating him
call a meeting with Delenn, Sheridan and Kosh, tell them everything -> show ends early :P

What vir did was awesome ;p

in which instance? there were many awesome Vir moments

3:49 PM
Oh, with morden ;p

or as Londo called him, "Veeeeeared"

" I'd like to live just long enough to be there when they cut off your head and stick it on a pike as a warning to the next ten generations that some favors come with too high a price. I would look up at your lifeless eyes and wave like this. "
(which he gets to do ;p)

Bob
I am so lost here.

7 hours later…
10:26 PM
ugh... compliance training D:

1 hour later…
11:48 PM
anybody here with a gigabyte board and having used the smart fan application?
