12:04 AM
I need a quick little piece of software that can act like tee, but with UDP streams. Can anyone recommend such a utility, preferably for Windows? I have a program that needs to listen into a connection, but I can't use pcap replay since it needs to occur at the same time.

2 hours later…
1:37 AM
@slhck Read some mixed reviews about that one (unevenly backlit, and even some weird noise IIRC?). I have two U2711 and am quite happy with them. The first developed issues on the DisplayPort and had to be exchanged, but other than that both are fine. I have no special requirements though, and can't tell you how good the colors etc. are.
@slhck Gems from Stack Exchange?
No idea how serious the backlight issue is in real use though.
Google autocompletes to "dell u2713hm backlight bleed", so it might affect one or two people :-)

Someone answered a question of mine before the migration, and it solved my problem, but after the migration it's gone. Is there anyway to retrieve it so I can give the check?

migrated from where to where?
a 10K + user should be able to see the question, so finding that or a mod is probably your best best

My question is still there, but the answer is gone. There was a server migration today. It happened just as I read the answer

hm, ouch
then I have no idea

Okay. Curiously I can't find anything about the migration on the blog

1 hour later…
7:09 AM
@jou around?

Connected my new system.

I hit the power button. The system switches on for 2 seconds and switches off

>_>
that's not good

7:11 AM
Any idea why

scary

any error lights on your motherboard?

None
Not enough time for diag lights
I see all fans rotating
And then switches off

thats troublesome
looks like its trying to boot up, then failing

Yeah ;/
But it's on for barely a second

7:13 AM
do you have the CPU power plugged in?
(super common mistake)

Aw crap
I think not

That 4 pin connector ?

Yeah definitely not

yeah, 8 pin in some newer systems
well?

7:14 AM
Why does the CPU have a separate connector ?

it needs power?

Isn't ot powered by 24pin?

why ?

basically its more efficient?
also allows higher voltage PSUs

7:16 AM
Yeah its needed according to manual

well, *that*s your problem
(hopefully

Woohoo!
It boots!

tracert -h 160 216.81.59.173 (traceroute if you run linux) is amusing
@Sathya: ITS ALIVE!
better than my non-boot problem too

7:33 AM
ok wtf is this now

>_>
is what?

thats odd
do you have any disk inside?

It come out of nowhere
Nope c

apparently resetting the bios will help

7:36 AM
Hmm ok
I can enter bios
If i hit delete
Ok it's
Proper
I plugged in the mouse
And the same error again
Wtf
buggy uefi
Firmware

Very very buggy

could have sworn the case fan headers on his box were 3 pin
was trying to move it from a case fan header to a 'cpu opt' header cause i thought the former was 3 pin, and the latter for 4 pin
then worked out it wasn't

8:27 AM
@JourneymanGeek they'e all 4 pin righ

yeah, thats the wierd bit ;p
oh well

lol

Bob
8:50 AM
...
I just closed 20 tabs. 40 left. On my phone...
It's been accumulating for weeks now

@Bob What OS/browser?

9:14 AM
So what does happen.. If anything.. If you use the same product id of Windows 8 on 2 separate systems

9:38 AM
I've not actually tried that

Bob
10:02 AM
@Paul Opera Mobile, Android ICS
ok, wtf
I was wondering why my computer's fan was running so quickly
turns out, there's an Autorun.exe using a full core (13%)
and it's been doing so overnight
and it's spamming QueryStandardInformationFile on %AppData%\Dropbox\bin\msvcr71.dll
Image path is E:\Autorun.exe... but... E: is my optical drive, which has not had a disc in it for a couple of weeks now
o.O
yay, yearling badge
o.O
the title translates to List of emoticons can be entered
on a MS support page?!

1 hour later…
11:19 AM
@Bob That would make me nervous

Bob
@Paul yea

11:44 AM
@Bob When was the last time you rebooted? :D
@Bob Well, Japan

Bob
@OliverSalzburg System Boot Time: 8/01/2013, 2:29:10 PM

@OliverSalzburg you do not look mean without your hair :(

Bob
@Paul might be the Dropbox import-crap-when-disc-inserted thing stuffing up

About the data loss yesterday:
3
A: Lost about 1% reputation after data center migration

Nick CraverThough we restored all data logs from Oregon in the move, the last 5 minutes from various sites didn't make it, even though we took and restored backups during and well after the sites were in read-only mode. We're still investigating why this happened as this certainly wasn't my intent when bui...

Bob
11:47 AM
@OliverSalzburg that's weird? o.O

@HackToHell That's great. Thanks
@Bob Well, it's weird that it shows that it autostarted a .exe from a location where no disc existed :D

Bob
@OliverSalzburg well, yes :P
@slhck edits.. can be rather important :S
there's a few massive edits with large amounts of info
bleh

@OliverSalzburg I take that back ::P

Well, we also lost a merged user account etc.
I wonder how that can happen. If you pull the backup after the site is in read-only.

@HackToHell Have you ever seen me with hair? :D

11:50 AM
yeah, your oooooold profile pic

That one?

oh shoot, hides

Wonder if that's worth buying

the only thing in there that I use is teracopy

12:07 PM
@OliverSalzburg Bad mindy playing tricks on me, my bad :D

@HackToHell No worries ;D
@JourneymanGeek Same here, have only used TC. Actually still using it

and it has a pc cleanup app

Q: PC plays sounds from someone's office

user197117I can hear someone opening and closing files or books and moving around in his/her office. Is this normal? and what is causing it?

creepy and funny :D

@JourneymanGeek I was hoping someone would go "OMG it has breevy!!!" or something along those lines
What a success, I finally have MongoDB built on my 256 MB Raspberry Pi

12:25 PM
O_o

Our latest software product is an attendance control system for fair booths and I would just love to get it running on the Pi
Progressing slowly... very slowly...
There we go \o/

Bob
12:56 PM
It can be virus. Thoroughly check your PC. — Jet 13 mins ago
FUD? :\
I really wish we could stop jumping to 'it's malware' without any troubleshooting
also, rather useless comment: 'thoroughly check'?! elaborate, please..

Bob
@OliverSalzburg nice!
shit
middle of the night
volume all the way up
whoops

Bob
I'm hoping no one heard anything about punching faces -_-

1:12 PM
Windows 8 install done in 10 minutes O_o

Bob
wut
@Sathya clean install? :S

clean install, from USB

Bob
wow.

and I mean click on start -> select partition -> copy + install -> boot
ie from clean hard disk to a open desktop
now to install drivers. though the default drivers mean I've got everything

Bob
a DVD's max read rate beats most flash drives that I've seen
well, USB2 ones anyway
SSD?

1:15 PM
nope, Seagate 7200rpm HDD

Bob
actually, probably won't make much difference
I don't think Windows is that heavily compressed

yeah

Bob
most HDDs beat USB/DVD speeds by enough
so.. just extremely fast? :P

yeah :D

Bob
my attempt at a VirtualBox enterprise evaluation install took a good 30+ mins IIRC, though that was with pretty heavy thrashing (iso on same drive)
just extracting + copying the image with imagex took at least 10 mins, I think o.O
and first boot of enterprise eval took a couple of minutes waiting for final setup stuff
so @Sathya has a monster of a machine. good to know :P

1:18 PM
not really monster.. but good enough :P
and decent upgrade ;D

Bob
what are the specs anyway?

finally I can browse without my laptop shutting down :P
i5 3470 / 8GB 1600MHz RAM / HD7750 GPU

@Bob unscientifically speaking, USB installs are a lot faster

Bob
@JourneymanGeek maybe better random access has somethign to do with it?

yeah, the rotational latencies are too much, I guess

1:22 PM
@Bob: I have no idea

Bob
though that would indicate an inefficient installer :P

I think for the moment, my machine counts as a monster >_>

Bob
the majority of the stuff on the disc works on all platforms and can pretty much be copied sequentially..?

@Sathya has a machine that survived being mauled by bears
MUCH more badass

:-D

Bob
1:24 PM
@JourneymanGeek wut.

@Bob: did you see the box his original processor came in?

Bob
nup

Bob
@user88311 hi there

1:27 PM
So I'm not the only one up at this time

its about half past nine here
so yeah, too early to go to bed

It's about 9AM here
Bad enough I slept through my alarm since was working till 8 hours ago, got to leave in a hour for work again

Bob
@JourneymanGeek Wow. So much for 'handle with care'...
Looks like it's been through <insert hated shipping service here> (e.g. UPS)
@user88311 12:30 AM here.
@user88311 o.O

Work till one, half hour to get home, another half hour to eat and 15 trying to get to sleep
so about 6 and a half hours of sleep
actually less
I was counting te time I'd been awake
So more around 3-4 hours of sleep
the*

@Bob: mauled by bears
there's no other explaination

1:46 PM
Seems like my phone runs on magic

@OliverSalzburg: sufficiently advanced technology you mean

@JourneymanGeek It recharged itself out of thin air. I like that! :D

@OliverSalzburg: Its drawing power. FROM BEYOND THE VOID

Heheh
I just want it to drain
But I'm not having much luck :D
Finally!

Just put a video in a loop, that ought to drain your battery fast enough

1:52 PM
@IvoFlipse That's what I did :P

Or put on an Angry Birds demo in limbo or something of the sort

Although it didn't do much looping given that it was almost drained

Bob
@IvoFlipse GPS works well too :P
I can watch my battery charge (%) drop

True, but on the Navigation on the background :P
With the screen on the highest luminosity

Bob
actually, I wonder why GPS draws that much power

1:53 PM
No clue, though I wonder if it matters if you're moving or not

@OliverSalzburg: how about that IP cam app? ;p

I really enjoy the "daydream" feature
@JourneymanGeek Good call! :D

Did you install Android 4.2?

GPS as I understand it requires picking up very very weak signals and triangulating them

@IvoFlipse CM10.1 on my SGS1

1:54 PM
mucho mathemathics

You couldn't resist that new Panorama feature could you?
I'm still running stock Android on my Nexus 4, though CM10.1 might be tempting

@IvoFlipse My CM doesn't have it
But the CM10.1 camera is so much better than the CM9 one

I just wish I could use it on my SGS2
@IvoFlipse I don't get it :D

That's a sad panda :P

1:56 PM
Oh :D

Bob
@IvoFlipse not as far as I can tell

I actually installed CM10.1 because they announced M snapshots

Bob
@IvoFlipse they're on 4.2 now? I can't get official 4.1 D:

You have a Motorola right? Must be Verizon blocking it

Bob
1:58 PM
@JourneymanGeek not thaaat much? especially not with the rather crappy refresh rate? I dunno. It's hardly highly CPU-bound data processing
@IvoFlipse what's new?

Bob
@IvoFlipse uhh.. which part?

Bob
oh
I can't navigate Google Plus, apparently
thanks
so it's basically an upload-to-Plus?

@Bob No, that worked since forever
You have to open the image in that post

Bob
2:02 PM
@OliverSalzburg well, yes, but that's a Plus feature, isn't it?
it's hardly going to do that with a standard JPEG file

To my understanding, it's an open format
I guess the key feature is the photo taking

The source claims its just a plain JPG

Bob
@OliverSalzburg XMP metadata, apparently: chris.orr.me.uk/photo-sphere-formats-metadata

@Sathya did a pretty awesome job on this example, I don't spot any clear glitches

Bob
2:05 PM
@OliverSalzburg ah, nice

I have one or two good ones
will upload soon

Bob
looks much smoother than the one-direction-only panorama :P

I wish I had that feature when I was in Canada, now I only have the plain panorama's

What I'm wondering is, can you actually take a full sphere of images?

yes
seen few

Because, in that video, it seems like the software tells you where to go next. Or did I not interpret that right?

This guy has one example that goes round and round
You can keep going if you want, it will probably detect the overlap at some point

@IvoFlipse Awesome

But you need to use the right technique to make it look smooth

Hey, that photo was taken in Salzburg! :D

2:10 PM
> Mind the no-parallax point. Your photos need to be taken from exactly the same point to avoid parallax errors in the stitched panorama. Panoramic heads are the best tools for achieving that. Take a look at Nodal Ninja panoramic heads (we really like them).
- Always rotate yourself around the phone (DO NOT rotate phone around yourself)
- The phone stays at one spot (you should rotate it as if the phone's camera was glued in space and could not move)
- Doing this when shooting a non-spherical 360° panorama is quite easy but when you need to also pitch the camera up and down to cover the whole spherical panorama it's actually very difficult. People tend to move the phone above themselves when they are shooting the "up" pictures so they can look at the display. It is actually quite unnatural to rotate the phone in your hand without moving it but

@IvoFlipse Interesting!

Yeah, if you don't do it right, then it stitches them together, but they won't line up properly

Grrr. Now I want it even more to play with it :P

Bob
wow. so much blue on the left.
(and I just broke it. sorry.)

2:16 PM
Oh! I see there's potential for error! :D

Bob
@IvoFlipse no access? :(
(I don't use G+ :\)

Then you'd need to be in my extended Circles :P

Bob
I might go set up G+ when I'm a little more awake
@IvoFlipse ah.. ouch

Interesting, the image is accessible outside of whom I shared it with

Bob
I'm sure it would be possible to do better stitching than that, parallax error or not

2:19 PM
Definitely, I think I did exactly the wrong thing though :P
But with the horizon here its especially visible that its going wrong

What's the resolution of the final image? Can you control that?
What I hated the most about the panoramas I shot with the CM cam was the low resolution

Not really (I think), I just select the Photo Sphere mode and then it creates this

the panoramas have shitty res

So great! :D A clock!

2:30 PM
LOL

The regular panorama mode made much bigger pics right?

My phone can also do cool stuff ;P

Too bad the regular clock widget takes up so much space

That's a panorama taken with the stock camera
This is a panorama manually stitched together: cloud.hartwig-at.de/~oliver/IMG_20121222_164532_merged.jpg
Not gonna onebox that :P

Nope, still pretty crappy

Bob
2:33 PM
@OliverSalzburg how did you get that?
I want a clock :P

@Bob It's called "Daydream" android.com/whatsnew

Bob
@IvoFlipse eh, it's a phone camera

@IvoFlipse Holy shit :D

Bob
2:34 PM
get a DSLR and a panorama stitcher :P

Those look amazing!

Bob
that particular image looks like a CG render though :S

@Bob Well we took plenty of regular pictures with a DSLR, but I don't have a stand to rotate with

Bob
ah. the thicker bodies don't exactly lend themselves to finding the proper axis of rotation easily either..

This is quite fun, we took this pic from one of the 'mountains' you see in the other pic :P

Bob
2:36 PM
when it's good enough that it looks fake, you've really succeeded :P

I'll try again on my next vacation

Bob
those are seriously amazing
note to self: learn to take proper photos/panoramas

Note to self: visit Canada :P

Bob
@OliverSalzburg thanks
I might actually try custom firmware at some point

I made a huge ass pictures of California using Google Maps, but can't seem to find it

Bob
2:38 PM
once I figure out the risk of changing my bootloader

3:06 PM
> The activation server reported that the product key has exceeded its unlock limit
whee

now you know? ;p

eeyep
so telephone activation?

beats me. not using the licence any more on the other box?

wiping it
installing ubuntu

Any LaTeX guru's around?

3:16 PM
Not me. Merely a LaTeX user.

Getting some BS error about the capacity :(

call msft phone activation. enter 6, 9 digit codes. get them wrong 3 times & repeat IVRS process. And then be smacked with "sorry technical problem in retrieving id - call later" :|

So... I need to insert the device to uninstall it?

trollface.jpeg

3:25 PM
The fun part is, I didn't need it insert to install it.
Because I never had it in the first place...

3:36 PM
Look a bit like tex.stackexchange.com/questions/44964/… (that one has no answer though)
handyfloss.wordpress.com/2006/11/30/tex-capacity-exceeded-error has more information. Including the possibility of an infinite loop
But to start with the easy question from the same page: Do you have a \end{document} ?
