6:00 PM
I managed to boil down where the problem lies; basically ping fails, name-based browsing fails, nslookup works, IP-based browsing works, MS apps fail, other apps work completely.

Rickrolled by SE...

Let me guess-- you haven't configured your router to replace those pages with a warning?
Unrelated note: The rep cap is 200rep/day, right?
Is that removed after some time?
(I didn't get any bounties)

removed?
only votes count - accepts, edits and bounties ignore the cap
but everyone is always capped each day, this ticks over on UTC midnight

Ah, accepts are what I thought counted
that explains it

hit the cap today then?

6:16 PM
Oh, not yet.
Only at 80 so far today

f/e, just out of interest then? :)

but had 275 3 days ago, and 245 two days ago, so I was curious how that was happening

ahh, yeah, accepts are handy for that

Doing a side-by-side comparison of my registry now... :-/

@TomWijsman ouch, sounds ... fun :S

6:19 PM
Difference 13 of 2052 :)

:x
You've already disabled IPV6 on the adapter, correct?

Hey look, I changed the volume of my microphone. crashes head on table
@DarthAndroid: Yes, has been disabled for ages.
Hmm, I need a hex to string converter :/
Found one, yay
Okay, in my Device Linkage the UpperBind was changed from wanarpv6 to something odd.
When I probe what wanarp is I get
Earlier I found I couldn't start that service, this might be related to it.

6:41 PM
Intel Wireless Easter Egg --> "ConfigurationName"="PR0W1RELE55"

what's that do?

Dunno, they just entered something random there. :)
I'm manually updating my TCP/IP stack back to a state where it worked...

7:04 PM
nevermind things are out of order. :D

8:04 PM
@TomWijsman How did you manually update it?
How come I cannot choose where to migrate with Vote to Close?
Why did they change that??

8:18 PM
@paradroid huh, you should be able to ... do you have a specific example?

Q: Is Gmail for Business an openID provider?

Can accounts from apps for business(Gmail) be used with openid?

possibly because it was migrated in and/or doesn't have an owner... both of which can behave badly if migrated
or it's a bug...
not 100% sure tbh :)

Did the same happen for you?

no, but I'm a diamond so I'm hardly representative

I think my privileges have been reduced, actually :/

8:23 PM
@paradroid how so? unless your rep falls the shouldn't...

Because it seems to be happening with very question

hmmm... I'm thinking "bug" then unless we can get another 3k user to verify

same as usual

hmmm

I never got the gold badge for Electorate either

8:26 PM
@paradroid you've only voted on 564 questions according to your profile, needs to be >= 600

@DMA57361 Oh, ic
I thought it was combined upvotes. When I passed 600 they were shown combined

nope, 600 question votes and questions votes must also form more than 25% of your total votes
I think if you check MSO it's been a semi-common misconception about the badge

@paradroid Went to recovering part of the register from weeks ago
and now I have the problem that I can't get my Wireless to work, but at least the underlying problem has been resolved.
It was indeed in the registry, but I got bored trying to manually compare and figure out what it could be.
So now I just got to recover some things...
And then I'm back on track. :)
Getting a nasty code 1 on my wireless card, going to try to start with it outside the system to get it completely uninstalled and do some hidden devices clean up and then reinstall it again.

@TomWijsman I have my apps on remote or portable, mostly, so there is minimal configuration on an OS installation (and I try to make scripts that do as much as possible automatically, using direct registry insertions, and commands to set up networking, etc), so I would always just reinstall an OS as soon as there was any major problem like that, rather than spend a lot of time trying to fix it.
Otherwise, rolling back to a image backup is another solution, but currently I have not set up automated imaging.
I ought to set that up really.

9:51 PM
@paradroid: Thing is, I usually just get the problem fixed. I should do more back-ups to make it an easier fix...
By the way, I got it solved.

A: Why are Microsoft based programs unable to resolve host names?

Tom WijsmanSo, I researched half a day for solutions for all the errors I saw occurring. Nothing worked! As configuration is stored in the registry, I decided to do a rollback. But how? I first looked up what the Failed Control Set registry key was, because fails should be rare... HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTE...

Well, as I know it's in one of all those changes, I could probably figure out what but I've had enough of it for now...
The issues occurs for a very small set of people in a very specific situation, thus it's not really worth discovering.

Nice

1 hour later…
11:06 PM
Okay, got everything back as before but even slightly better. :)
Made a back-up of the registry too...
I lost the ability to see my N-only network. :(

11:21 PM
Ah, does see it, just takes some time.
