12:00 AM
@SimonSheehan sure, a new (private) room or IM via another company? (lol)

@studiohack Do you have an IM provider preference ?
@studiohack Feel free to choose - I've got all 3 :P

Google it is then :P

@studiohack Okay. My email is sheehan.simon19@gmail.com
loads up gchat or whatever its called

messages @SimonSheehan

@SimonSheehan: its jabber! ;p

12:03 AM
@JourneymanGeek jibber jabber :P

Jabber eh? Neat name xD

i pity the foo!
@SimonSheehan: actually its surprising how many chat systems are jabber based, FB chat is as well, as does LJ's chat system

@JourneymanGeek neat! Had no idea they did that
Actually, you CAN login to facebook chat via jabber.

ya. bizarrely, from what i can tell, the groups chat isn't jabber tho

It's annoying me that I can't get that video to stream... oh well, Im going to leave it... hate to get beaten, but, I don't have the time to muck around :(

12:27 AM
Hmm, just protected my own question as it was generating answers from people that don't read the question.
I don't know whether they qualify as "not an answer" though...

@TomWijsman its an answer...just a crappy one :P

@SimonSheehan: Argh, now I had to remove the "NO NO NO!!!" part from my comment. Reminds me of Closer To The Edge... xD

@TomWijsman haha. NOOOOOOOOOOOOO

They will however be at the Sport Palace of Antwerp, I'm still undecided whether I'm going...
I skipped on Bruno Mars yesterday because I only like 1 or 2 songs while not liking the others.
Waiting in line just for getting the goosebumps of Grenade? No.

I'm not much of a fan of his :P

12:37 AM
Hmm, I should get ear protection if I decide to go. Last time at the Sport Palace the music was way too loud and I decided to stand front line (it was some 90s party)...
Although it's in a near-by arena, so I don't know for sure. One thing is sure, if I decide to go 30STM it's gotta be front line...

I have no condensed all my IM'ing to one client!

Now? Not? No no no no?

Twitter, jabber, and MSN, all on Bitlbee.
Oh, and IRC
One client for everything

What about Chat Stack Exchange and Facebook and Google+?

Facebook chat? blah. Google+ sort of handled.... Stack Exchange chat needs an API!

12:40 AM
I've once started a Sourceforge project for combining all social networks into a single client, didn't work out well, not enough attention.

Maybe Github would get you farther these days :p

Dunno, not into them...
@studiohack: No more thanks? :D

@TomWijsman what do you mean? :P

Thanks for deleting the thanks everywhere. ^^

Because being polite when asking questions is overrated :P

12:53 AM
@TomWijsman you just now picked up on that?

@SimonSheehan: the thing with SE chat is though, the single most useful feature is unique to it, and i'm not sure how that would work with a traditional IM client

most people who say thanks have a low-qual post, so I improve in a number of ways most of the time

(the history/editing feature)

@JourneymanGeek indeed :P

1:02 AM
@SimonSheehan did you crash? ;P
or Bitlbee? lol

@studiohack I just sent a message to you...did you get it?
@studiohack still there? :P
Everything is alive again

yup, got it @SimonSheehan :P

2:13 AM
@studiohack what do you mean? :P

@TomWijsman did you just now notice that I have done lots of edits with thanks?

@studiohack: No, I know you do it more than now. But I usually don't meet these...

meet these @TomWijsman?

@studiohack /meet/see/
As in: I'm not around the time you do those.

@TomWijsman ah right. I do them mostly on the weekends

2:21 AM
@studiohack I remember once doing them simultaneously with you...
@studiohack You might want to sort your search by vote count...
Hmm, harmonica thanks us?!

Q: Virtualization. For your girlfriend

meleeOr boyfriend. It's all good. Here's a brief description of the issue at hand: Said girlfriend knows how to download torrents (of Linux ISOs) (...) despite multiple warnings from Boyfriend regarding random fun things like spamalware Girlfriend disregards advice "OMG what are these naked ladies...

@TomWijsman where did that question come from? its one of my best answers
@TomWijsman I'll try that, thanks

@studiohack Highest voted when searching for thanks. Although I dunno whether it should be removed in this case...

3:04 AM
@studiohack the answer I got so far on my MSO questions is phenomenal

@SimonSheehan whoa!

@TomWijsman I tried something like that years ago!

@WilliamHilsum Well, my nightstand serves that purpose. It's the right size for my laptop and also the right height... :)

lol. I have piece of MDF with glued on legs for that. also serves to raise the laptop while typing

3:51 AM
@SimonSheehan: Number of moderators named Mark: 8 - i smell a markist conspiracy!

4:32 AM
@JourneymanGeek the answer is brilliant!

@JourneymanGeek :| @Wil

4:56 AM
@Sathya well... it is funny :/ not sure if it should be changed because of the language

@WilliamHilsum no changes, but it was like a WTF

5:19 AM
@WilliamHilsum: it didn't have the picture earlier

5:34 AM
I'm wondering why a web developer is using a gamer mouse, weird...
Well, tried to answer his question anyway.
Well, he takes Don't fix it if it ain't broken a bit too literally by breaking it first...

5:58 AM
@TomWijsman: prolly the macros

I just don't get why Razer hardware is so popular all of a sudden - I seem to hear about it all the time recently!

They are blingy
yanno, macros, flashy lights etc

Right... Shower then meeting - Bye!
... Makes me so depressed... £15 for a travelcard to get to London... I hate this country.

the all day ones?

6:16 AM
Yeah

6:32 AM
@WilliamHilsum they were all over NYTimes, thanks to their ad campaigns

6:44 AM
@WilliamHilsum Bloody hell that's cheap, we don't even have a public transport system you can talk off, let alone use.

7:29 AM
@WilliamHilsum £15?!, lucky you, tis the wrong side of £30 here - or about £4k/yr once I start commuting for my new job
although I think @Diago "wins" the worst-public-transport competition... :/

do they usually have decorations on the front..?

here's from phase 1 of Bangalore's newly constructed Metro railway, launched couple days ago

no metro / underground / etc there previously I assume?
anyway, got to run to class, be back later

7:56 AM
@DMA57361 we did have bus, but right, nothing previously
@DMA57361 no.. the floral decorations were put because of the inauguration

1 hour later…
9:10 AM
@Sathya yeah, I'd guessed as much when you said it was new
@Sathya it could be pretty handy then?

yep, but only phase 1 is done, distance is about ~7kms

there quite a big roll-out planned?

total distance to be covered is I believe ~42kms, in upcoming 2 phases

f/e

2 hours later…
11:05 AM
Found during server room archive check - a few sets of each of these....

11:51 AM
lol
never know when they will come in handy? ;p

12:12 PM
I still have diskettes.
Don't know what to do with them...

4 hours later…
4:00 PM
@Sathya Thanks
@Diago ... Ok sorry... Maybe I complained a bit to quickly... but, I just envy my time in KL when I could get a tram in to town for 30p!
@DMA57361 DAMN! wow... I don't suppose you can get a student card or anything for a discount?
@Linker3000 +1 brilliant! .... I have something really sad here... I have got Windows 1 disks (or "Windows graphical environment") 5 1/4 floppies that are signed by Steve Ballmer... I have seen him a few times and thought what the hell, I will ask!!! Haven't managed to get Bill Gates to sign them though :/ ... One day!

4:25 PM
@WilliamHilsum That's interesting. I used to have some 1.x disks 'somewhere' but not any more I expect.

I'm just a gadget/computer hoarder :/
I think those disks are special, but, I really need to chuck things away

Well, I was having a clearout but I've kept a pile of 5.25" and 3.5" diskettes just in case someone asks for any.

or there is a crisis and we have to revert back to old technology! ... That is the excuse I use to justify keeping mine!

...hmm! I had to revert to an older desktop PC yesterday - I docked my laptop, there was a loud beep and it's dead! Purchased 22nd october 2010 so in warranty!!

4:30 PM
It's just gone back to Lenovo. Oh, and my HTC Desire died 4 days ago so that's gone away too - I'm waiting for #3 breakage - hopefully not the car!
Time to hit the road - see you later

@Linker3000 Ouch, good luck.... HTC repairs were on Watchdog recently - I still have my HTC wizard ~7+ years on... Love it! but, the camera LED stays on which drains the battery!
@Linker3000 Bye... safe journey!

4:50 PM
@WilliamHilsum that is with a "discount" for buying annually, it more quarterly/monthly/etc, so that's as low as it goes. But, well, London pays more anyway so it balances out in the long run

3 hours later…
7:50 PM
Evening all

@SimonSheehan evenin'

How goes it @DMA57361 ?

not bad... probably good
new job lined up and will probably get to keep the redundancy pay from the old one... just waiting on paperwork to be sure
you?

Its going well enough. Working on yanking this old copy of iDVD off an install DVD

fair enough
there's also cake :9

8:06 PM
@DMA57361 Bloody hell... I thought you were only in Essex/there abouts?

@WilliamHilsum I am only in Essex...
it's 45mins from here to Lnd Liverpool Street
(by train, obviously)

One of my friends who lives in Birmingham and works sometimes in London, he gets a discounted return euro tunnel ticket to France (usually around £40 if booked in advance) and just stops in London/chucks the France bit as it is cheaper than a regular return!

to be fair I spend at least £1k/yr on petrol plus about ~£700/yr on parking at the moment, so £4k/yr is only a little more than double my current annual commute costs

Are you outside zone 6 then? (I am Petts Wood which is zone 5)... this country is just crazy... I mean, £15 is bad enough, but, I just hate that it doesn't even get a seat! I had to stand for 30 minutes... I just think it is a disgrace... (Despite what Diago said!)

@WilliamHilsum waaay outside zone 6, other side of Chelmsford
so when I'm talking costs I'm referring to mainline trains plus zone 1

8:12 PM
@DMA57361 Ok... Well, I still think it is a disgrace for you! IMHO, Public Transport should be a no brainer - it should always be cheaper/easier... Sometimes when I travel up to London (especially when there is a ~15+ minute walk the other side), I always consider driving instead as it is £15 for a travel card or about £19 for petrol (I have a 4x4 petrol sucker, but, pay no congestion charge - handy!)...

@WilliamHilsum shrug it's never been cheap. As said thou, London pays more - and from here it's usually enough to cover the trains and a little extra

Couldn't you get a yearly/gold card from chelmsford to the nearest zone 6 station, then a zone 1-6 travel card? :/ 1-6 should be around 2k per year...
sorry, you probably already looked at it all... I just know friends who do tricks like this and I hate to see people spend more money than they have to!

@WilliamHilsum I haven't - but I'd rather not have to ride out to the edge of Z6 and try to get on a packed mainline train, easier to get on the mainline where it starts
I think Stratford is the furthest place to swap between main and tube in this direction

@DMA57361 Oh... No changes or anything... For example, My brother had a zone 1-6 travel card when he went to school in Tonbridge... When he visted friends who lived a few stops out, he would just use his regular travel card and buy an extension from Tonbridge to where he was going and it would only work out like 50p extra per journey... Much cheaper and all easy/official
there must be a national rail station within the zonal system? Petts Wood is zone 5/main line

@WilliamHilsum Stratford is zone 3 I think...

8:18 PM
Here we go... The white/train lines :/ tfl.gov.uk/assets/downloads/…

yep, Stratford it is then - I'm further up the line on the right that points to Shenfield

In that case, a zone 1-6 (central to Harold Wood) is ~£2000 ... I would check how much an annual from Your place to Harold Wood is... It maybe unlikely, but, you never know - as I said, a friend does something similar and I know he saves around 1k a year

yeah, I don't think it makes a difference on price
@WilliamHilsum here to Harold Wood is £2,724.00/yr not including any tube zones

+ £2016 (just checked) for a 1-6 travelcard

I see what you're trying to do, but frankly I doubt there's any real savings to be made

8:24 PM
hehe... ok... well, the friend that does this trick lives in Liverpool... maybe over that distance it is different then! If you do want me to look up any tricks for you, let me know... but... good luck with your job and everything!

I'm already consigned to having to pay, took it in to account for pay negotiations and will get a interest-free loan from my new employer after my probation period, so it's hopefully covered

Again... Good luck with everything - and... I'll chat to you later... Stressful week, going to try and have a lie down!

thanks; and yeah - go get yourself some sleep, from what I read you don't get nearly enough :P

lol :( I try not to, but, so much work... and... with so much on my mind, I just lie in bed, so, I get up and do it and only go to sleep when I am well and truly exhausted. It is a very bad cycle... really should look at sleeping tablets or something... but, I am hoping that this big load of work will be over soon.

yeah, it's not pleasant in the slightest... good luck, I guess

9:08 PM
@WilliamHilsum I went to essex (Harlow) with some friends two weekends back as we know some people that live down there. From Bristol Temple Meads it was £22 single or £50 return so it was cheaper for us to drive down. We also went into london on the tube (from Epping) which compared to Bristol public transport is pretty awesome. Think it was about £8 for all tube zones all day, unlimited which I was seriously impressed at.

1 hour later…
10:30 PM
1 more hour until I can vote... I feel deprived of voting privileges! And have been for 22 hours :/
