@fredsbend I actually really like those -- and I might even like your two the best out of all the suggestions -- but I also strongly fear that they'll turn would-be valuable contributors away from here for the perceived implication that Christianity is on the same level truth-wise as Greek or other mythology. I think it's best to shy away from such implications, perceived or otherwise.
I might try to make a picture of Paul and Barnabas (like this one) with the labels "Not Zeus" and "Not Hermes" with a tagline like "Meet the 'real' Zeus and Hermes on Mythology.SE"
Maybe another one with a picture of Baal that says "How often did Baal need to relieve himself?" or something like that.
@fredsbend Yeah, probably not. And it could lead them to ask bad questions over there. It was more of a joke.
But I'm trying to think in that vein, of what connections we can make between the subject matter of the two sites without leading people to infer not-so-nice things.
I think the picture you link is okay. What about a text only ad? Perhaps a brief quote of that story: "Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul they called Hermes because he was the chief speaker. Acts 14:12"
Then new line: "Find out more about Zeus and Hermes on"
Big and new line: "Mythology.SE"
Or the picture can be in the back kind of faded.
Or the tag line can be something else: "Learn about the real Zeus and Hermes on"
@Mr.Bultitude People are used to seeing ads for unrelated or marginally related things on sites all over the Internet. I doubt that ads for a mythology site would scare away anyone who has a serious interest in the content here. After all, people who contribute to this site are supposed to be able to maintain at least a semblance of objectivity about Christianity.
@RefathBari Anyway, I'm relatively new here too. So if one of the high-rep users or mods comes along and says something different, listen to them, not me.
@RefathBari I should add that the debate would have to relate to Christianity in some way. I.e. Atheism vs. Christianity. Otherwise it would be considered off-topic even for the chatrooms. And of course, it would all depend upon whether anyone here actually wanted to talk to you about that. ;-)
