12:00 AM
(although considering that's where most of the soy oil resides, I can't entirely disagree... hehe )

@Flimzy So you didn't say what exactly you object to concerning milk and corn subsidies.
@Flimzy There is an added benefit to eating the organs and gasp the blood.

My main complaint re: corn subsidies is that it undercuts the price of Mexican corn, which in turn means Mexico imports a ton of corn from the US, rather than buying local corn, which in turn bankrupts countless mexican farmers, who in turn sneak into the US to find illegal jobs, which we blame them for...
Re: milk subsidies, it makes it nearly impossible for small, local dairy farms to make a living. When I was living in Kansas, I paid $5/gallon for raw fresh milk from a local farm. And that was considered a bargain price. A local goat dairy was charging $10/gallon.
When most people hear I'm paying $5/gallon they think I'm crazy, because they pay $2/gallon at the supermarket
what they don't know is that they pay the other $3/gallon every April 15

@Flimzy Interesting. I haven't heard that angle before. I'd have to see some stats on how much american corn is really imported compared to mexican corn grown.

And in a general sense, I'm opposed to agri subsidies... let the market set the price.
@fredsbend There's a chapter in Food Inc. about that issue.

@Flimzy Yeah.
@Flimzy Chapter? There's a book version?
@Flimzy Well, that's where I am. I don't eat very much beef, and I can't have milk. I don't see why I should have to pay for everyone else to have it.

12:05 AM
Yes, the book came first. I don't recall which chapter.

Well, I'll look it up.

or actually the book may have come at the same time, when they realized they had way more info than they could put in thefilm.
@fredsbend Have you tried raw milk? The majority of people who "can't drink milk" have no problem with raw milk. The pasteurization process alters the proteins such that many people can't digest them.
But not all... my gf can't drink raw milk, either.

@Flimzy I'm content with coconut and almond versions instead.

She seems to have true (rather than self-mis-diagnosed) lactose intolerance.
@fredsbend I'm glad you didn't say soy :)

Well, I'd rather not grow breasts.
@Flimzy I believe my problem is casein. I get more than gut reactions. I also get a headache.

12:15 AM
Interesting.
So I guess cheeses and yogurt are problematic as well?

@Flimzy Yes. The harder the cheese the less of a problem.

I want to raise dairy goats.. .maybe a cow, too (I like butter too much not to have one)
perhaps on the "huge tracts of land...."

12:35 AM
@Flimzy OK.

1:02 AM
@Flimzy +1

1:22 AM
@PaulVargas You should upvote the answer if you like it :)

1:35 AM
@Flimzy I've tasted keifer (fermented milk) before. Very, very sour.

@El'endiaStarman I've made kefir before.
And yogurt. And cheese.
all forms for fermented milk.
kefir tasts almost the same as yogurt

I've only had some yogurt once, and that was while my taste was totally off, and also store-bought, so probably sweetened.

yeah, I prefere home-made yogurt.
where do you live?
It seems unusual to meet someone who's only had yogurt once....

@Flimzy Well, I'm a rather picky eater, and tend to stick to eating the same foods every day.

1:55 AM
I see.

16 hours later…
5:41 PM
... tumble-weed ...

@bruisedreed You should see Skeptic's chat room. Even MORE tumble-weedy.

Hail @El'endiaStarman and well met!l I'm glad to be proved wrong in my implication of this chat-room being a ghost town - but I don't feel I need to visit others in order to seek out a more complete manifestation of that experience!
It's all relative anyway - the last time I visited this room it gave me the too many messages since your last post message

5:58 PM
@bruisedreed Bahaha, yes, that does happen.

6:14 PM
@El'endiaStarman is it legit to re-post an answer from a Q closed as a dupe to answer the matched (earlier) question, or should I just link to it in a comment?

@bruisedreed ...at first I was going to say that I'm not sure, but thinking about it more, I think that you are definitely allowed to do that. After all, if you saw the older question first, your answer would've been quite appropriate for it, so I think the fact that you already posted that answer on a duplicate question shouldn't be a problem.
If you were cross-posting on non-duplicates, that would be a problem. If you were plagiarizing or even just copy-pasting with attribution someone else's answer, that would be a big problem. But copy-pasting your own answer on a duplicate? I think that's fine.

@El'endiaStarman thanks - I thought it should be ok, but justed wanted to check before going ahead

@bruisedreed Yeah. Do keep in mind that I'm just one voice. Others may think differently. You could even start a meta question for that.
Also, a neat thing you can do with chat messages is link to them. You can mouse-over the message, and at the right side, you'll see a bent arrow. Click on that, then type your message. When you hit enter, it will be linked to the message you replied to, not necessarily their latest.

@El'endiaStarman @El'endiaStarman well if someone objects, then I certainly will
@El'endiaStarman yes I know - just sometimes a bit lazy in doing it :P

@bruisedreed Ah, okay, lol. :P
@El'endiaStarman Self-referential magic!

6:22 PM
@El'endiaStarman lol - clever

@El'endiaStarman I can also reply forward in time!
@El'endiaStarman Like so:

7:11 PM
@caleb before I go to the trouble of an attempted edit & Meta post to help re-open this question: christianity.stackexchange.com/questions/31209/… could you clarify - is it purely the lack of a doctrinal framework to answer this question that is the problem or are there other issues at play?
Again the "General philosophical or sociological" description particularly grates when applied to a question that asks what the bible say about an issue.
@El'endiaStarman Well I regard this as proof that you really are a Star-man ;)

8:21 PM
hahaha
"Which Early Christian Heresy Are You?"

8:35 PM
