@JonEricson How come you are interested in biblical hermeneutics and Christianity? What do you think is most interesting about those subjects? Your Bachelor's degree is in Atmospheric Sciences. You became a programmer with the National Weather Service. You don't need a Master's for that?
Hmmm... I figure I may learn some computer programming too. It may be useful in my career someday, making computer models for the brain.

@JonEricson and then you have the weirdos like me that discovered the network through SO, but are barely active over there compared to other networks
I've got like 200 something rep on SO I think
out of the 34k+ total SE rep
I do like that chat totals it though

that sounds a lot like me

although if you accounts on 20+ sites it does game things a bit

I started on SO years ago, couldn't hack it, then it was blocked at work, then I got involved playing D&D and ran back into the network through the RPG.SE site

@waxeagle nice, yeah, I don't like SO much, it lacks the flavor and community of the smaller sites
I much prefer being involved with sites where I'm actually making a difference
as opposed to one where I'm just one of many flooding to answer a question

@AJHenderson the problem for me is that the questions I actually have the skills to answer always get FGITW'd
and if I have a problem I can almost always find it on SO already

3:10 AM
maybe I'm tired, but fgitw'd?
I actually do post a fair number of questions to SO, that's actually where most of my rep on there comes from
since I'm a software architect, I tend to have weird questions exploring new ground or diving deep in to the mysteries of .Net's runtime

@AJHenderson fastest gun in the west
yeah I'm a run of the mill junior web dev, my problems are mostly requirements generation ones

but then I got in an argument with Eric Lippert on IT Security :)

:)

almost felt bad calling him out on something since he had just helped me on an in-depth linq thing

heh, not every day you get to call someone like that to the carpet :)

3:14 AM
worst part was, he didn't think he was wrong
oh well
we just make sure that one of my coworkers posts linq questions now ;)

lol

hmm, random question, when someone serial upvotes and then you get the correction applied, is it smart enough to give you credit for legit upvotes that weren't given credit because of hitting the 200 vote limit?
or do you just get shafted
had someone "thank me" for an answer with 90 points worth of upvoting and looks like I ended up losing about 30 rep from it
:(
or actually maybe not, hard to tell

@AJHenderson iirc, yes, but I'm not sure about that.
it's like those votes never happened, so if you had other upvotes that day it shouldn't affect htem

3:31 AM
@waxeagle they don't actually remove the upvotes though, they just give you a giant -whatever
with a line item for the correction
but they may correct it based on them not happening

@waxeagle Your neck of the woods must be a lot cheaper. Anything under $20K is going to be used here in DC.

@AffableGeek well, I'm looking at sub sub compacts :). Things like the Rio, Versa, Sonic, Fiesta....Just gotta get something that gets the missus to work and back
part of the thing I'm seeing though is that even though the starting retail value on several cars is 12-14k, dealers don't stock those models

4 hours later…
2:55 PM
@waxeagle SO blocked at work? 'Cause real programmers don't ever have questions about their work?
@JonEricson I've seen stats for this. In fact people have made pretty pictures with the stats. I know I've seen mind-map or network-node style charts based on the number of active cross over users between sites.

3:17 PM
@Caleb we're not primarily programmers :(
I am, but we only employ about 4 in the whole company. I'm sure I could have gotten it white listed if I'd asked

@Caleb hmm, security is bigger than I thought

my youngest talking to my parents on hangouts this morning ^ :)

@waxeagle It's worse than trying to be the fastest. It is cutthroat! Often, I see two people post at roughly the same time, with different solutions, then they spend the next 20 minutes telling each other (usually not very nicely) why their answer is better in the comments. I mean, the only real rule for interaction on the site is "Don't be a Jerk". It is kind of out of hand over there. I started on SO too.
