@barlop nope - and when I posted that, I wasn't asking for help or advice
and it is not just a 'motto', it is something I follow

12:20 AM
@barlop Lee has universalist leanings (I think), and also rejects any idea of salvation by belief because right living is essential

@barlop It's not belief in Jesus' resurrection that will take you to heaven per se, rather, belief in Jesus the Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour, which is inevitably followed by actively obeying his commands.
The Bible talks about how the devils believe and tremble. "You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!" - James 2:19.
They believe Jesus exists, is God, was resurrected. But they refuse to accept him as their Lord (which involves submitting yourself to him) and don't believe him to be their Saviour, nor do they obey his commands outside of what he forces them to obey.

@Birdie I don't believe in God, or anything of that nature. No one and nothing is my 'lord'
and I am not a 'devil' either (don't believe in them either)

@Atheist isn't that obvious from your username?

@barlop The basic reason it's not correct is that if it were correct, then God would be many orders of magnitude worse than the worst bloodthirsty tyrants and insane mass murderers in human history. And traditional Christian doctrine does make God out to be a horrible, insane, and bloodthirsty tyrant who sends the majority of humanity to eternal torture in hell just because they were born into the wrong religion, and even tortures his own son in order to satisfy his thirst for blood.
@barlop Another reason it's not correct is that the Bible doesn't say that. The overwhelming message of the Bible is that those who sin and do evil to God and the neighbor will die, whereas those who repent from sin and do good to the neighbor in obedience to God in practice will live.
@curiousdannii If by "universalist" you mean Christian Universalism, or universal salvation, "the doctrine that every human soul — because of divine love and mercy — will ultimately be reconciled to God," then I don't believe that or even lean toward it. I do believe that there is an eternal hell for those who choose to reject God and salvation by not only their beliefs but their actions during their lifetime here on earth.
But if you mean the looser definition of universalism in which salvation and a relationship with God are available to all people, of all religions, then yes, I do believe that.
@curiousdannii And yes, I do believe that right living is essential. That's not only the overwhelming teaching of the Bible, but it's just plain common sense. The idea that someone can live an evil and selfish life and be saved just because they believe in Jesus is ridiculous, wrong, and contrary to everything that the Bible teaches.
Even most adherents of the (non-biblical) doctrine of justification and salvation by faith alone think that those who are saved must go on to repent from their sins and live a good life. And that, not their so-called "faith alone," is what saves them, together with their faith, which teaches them to love God above all and love their neighbor as themselves.
(And yes, of course, it is ultimately God's love, or "grace," that saves everyone who is saved. But that happens through means, and faith and good works are both the means and the substance of salvation, together with love for God and the neighbor, which is the core reality of salvation.)
@Atheist Sounds like you're not one to complain and bemoan your fate, but rather one to roll up your sleeves and accomplish something good regardless of the cards you were dealt and regardless of what other people might (superficially) think of you. And that, in my view is both admirable and the reason God would never send you to hell even though you don't intellectually believe in God, heaven, or hell.

Q: I want to change my email address

hernan43I recently stopped using the email address that I log-in with. I want to change it to the current one that I use. Example: Change it from me@gmail.com then type in the password to me2@gmail.com and update my password. Sorry if this is a duplicate question!

@Atheist I'm unaware of any church run organizations that have research wings. What organization is this?
I guess Providence comes close, but I don't think they do research in the peer review sense.
Maybe they do though. They have like 30 thousand employees.
JOKE TIME:
An atheist, a vegan, and a guy who does CrossFit all walk into a bar. We only know cuz they all told us in two minutes.
Has anyone else noticed the propensity for atheists to voice their atheism?

Does anyone have any suggestions how I can improve my answer here? I'm going over my old, low-voted questions. christianity.stackexchange.com/a/45331/12563

@MattGutting I think that's a very good answer and I don't have any suggestions for improvement - apologies for not previously upvoting, but I don't recall reading that question previously

Thanks @bruisedreed - it's been a while, I think this is just one that people didn't get into for whatever reason.

@fredsbend Only the atheists you hear voicing their atheism. Ditto for Christians who voice their Christianity.
