@Joshua Yes, there is a progression of thought in Romans. Romans 2 is speaking of how non-Christians are saved. With Romans 3 the letter pivots toward how Christians are saved.

@JackDouglas Eph 2:9 "Not of/by a result of/from works" These works are being compared to grace. However, I don't make the distinction between works of the law and...some other works
@JackDouglas Eph 2:9 "Not of/by a result of/from works [that are of yourself, v8]" These works are being compared to grace. However, I don't make the distinction between works of the law and...some other works(?) This fits with Gal 2:16 and Rom 3:28, 4:4-5

five views, five downvotes - nice going folks!

@Joshua some argue works are being compared to faith but I agree with you.
@bruisedreed it's spam, it should have 5 spam flags too

@JackDouglas we'll I've done my duty there, but I can't see what others have done.

@bruisedreed no, me neither — I think it requires 6 for community deletion?

@JackDouglas something like that, I doubt it will last much longer anyway

@JackDouglas Well it is in a sense. But they are on different levels, like comparing an apple to a fig tree instead of apple tree.

@JackDouglas To put it one way, I see Works (good and bad) as the reaction of the law, but faith is the reaction of grace.

Q: Are close-vote scope standards significantly different now than they used to be?

AndrewI've noticed some questions being quickly closed as opinion-based or too broad, even though there is a precedent for the success of such questions. These closures seem to be mostly recent, and frequently voted to close by the same small set of users. A clear example of this phenomenon is demons...

@Andrew I'm going to defer to someone who can more properly explain the history of the site than I can, as someone who merely read about it after the fact on meta. But if you'd like to discuss any other particular posts or close votes, I'm happy to explain.

@JackDouglas Do you think Trump is best for the christian america?

:29901805 If I had a congregation I wouldn't suggest how they vote but I would suggest they get involved (ie vote but perhaps not just vote)
@Eagel Ask me again in 4 years :)

@JackDouglas Very interesting times in the USA

It's not just Trump — I'd say that about anyone. Generally speaking IMO the benefit of democracy is not that you can choose who to vote in but that you can get rid of who you voted in last time without bloodshed. You never quite know what you are getting — I didn't make up my mind fully about Tony Blair until years after he was first elected.

@JackDouglas Oh,your in Brittan!?

@Eagel That's what his profile says anyway :)

I like Jacob Rees Mogg,He is brilliant! Best man in politics!
