Q: What scientific arguments are there to support Young Earth Creationism?

Tony JaysYoung Earth Creationists believe that the Bible teaches them about a very young earth. What scientific arguments are there to support Young Earth Creationism?

That question is off-topic.
The Christianity.SE is intended to answer questions on dogma and practice, not opinions on science.
Churches normally don't revolve around science anyway.
They revolve around God.
@rfusca He should have worn elbow pads, knee pads, and a helmet for safety reasons.
@rfusca I wonder if pastors only work on Sundays. What do pastors do on other days of the week? How do they feed themselves, if the congregation is so small?
I think well-to-do neighborhoods can afford better schools, libraries, public services, and churches with staff people.

3:23 AM
@Anonymous depends largely on the individual situation. Some pastors of larger denominations with a central governance will be paid somewhat by the national denomination. Some smaller churches also have an adjoining house for the pastor to live in, to offset costss. Pastors of smaller churches often have a working spouse. Pastors of startups and such often work a secular job on the side till the church grows.
@Anonymous What they do during the week also varies largely by size and if we're talking about the 'lead' pastor of a large church or just a 'normal' pastor. My current lead pastor spends his week doing a variety of thing - new projects around the church (painting rooms, building things, etc), ministering to the ill, working around the community, and he helps to school his children at home
@Anonymous the lead pastor of my previous, very large church would delegrate much of that to his staff and was on the board of a larger regional governance for an association of related churches, he would travel around as a guest speaker to other churches as well.

@rfusca What if the pastor is not allowed to marry (legally or religiously)? The pastor may not be able to marry legally, because his partner is of the same sex. The pastor may not be able to marry religiously, because in his denomination, the pastor must be celibate.
@rfusca Tough life.

@Anonymous no idea there, out of my depth...but I would just assume then that spousal income isn't an option...
@Anonymous actually its rather stressful for many pastors

@rfusca Gee, a person must have a sustained interest in God and theology in order to be a pastor until he/she retires.

@Anonymous right...?
many pastors are stress out because they're trying to balance the wishes of their congregation with their own...and everybody can't be happy
For example, I know a pastor who wanted to renevate one of their unused parking lots into a baseball diamond for the local kids. Congregation wouldn't do it because a) they're slightly racist and it would primarily serve hispanic kids. b) it could possibly inconvenience them by having to walk further on a busy Sunday

@rfusca Do you think a Baptist church group would ever reuse an old, abandoned Catholic church building?

3:37 AM
@Anonymous i don't see any reason why not
its just a building
i know of churches that meet in renovated schools, hospitals, movie theaters - its just a building, nobody cares what it used to be beyond its functional, current aspect

@rfusca There are Hispanic White people. You can't really tell the difference between Hispanic White people and Non-Hispanic White people, just by looking at them. :)

@Anonymous ok?

@rfusca without renovation.
Would a Baptist mind seeing Eastern Orthodox iconography?

@Anonymous probably yes, they would renovate for sure

@rfusca instead of keeping it?

3:41 AM
@Anonymous no, they wouldn't keep it
nor did the movie theater church keep all the movie posters

Have you heard the story about some group that won the Ig Noble Prize for "Archaeology – Éclaireurs de France (a French Scouting organization), removers of graffiti, for damaging the prehistoric paintings of two Bisons in the Cave of Mayrière supérieure near the French village of Bruniquel."?
@rfusca A movie theater has no windows. Do they install windows?

@Anonymous nope
@Anonymous don't think so, but i'm not sure
i've talked a lot with the pastor of that particular church, but not been to his church down in FL

@rfusca Gee, a pastor must have a flexible schedule and be very open to travel.
I suppose some people just happen to fulfill this niche in society.
I think of pastors as being spiritual businessmen.

ok?

They need to sell their product - Christianity - and the best way to do that is to be charismatic and handsome and attractive and say something that people would like to hear or make them feel good.

3:53 AM
i know several pastors with a secular sales background

@rfusca Persuasion, charisma, and rhetoric may be useful skills in the trade.

@Anonymous whats your background - have you been to church previously or ?

@rfusca Nope.

@Anonymous interesting :)

@rfusca What's your background?

3:58 AM
@Anonymous grew up going to church

@rfusca Regularly or irregularly?

regularly
always been very involved

@rfusca Back in the olden days, there would be church services everyday, and thus people attend a church rather irregularly for different reasons, mainly asking the priest for priestly services.
@rfusca How often is "regularly"?
@rfusca And then you dropped out?

@Anonymous sunday,wednesday when it was 'in season' (the LCMS Lutheran church only holds Wednesday night services during certain times of year typically). 'Small group' meetings weekly, youth group meetings as they happened
@Anonymous not really no. I've pretty much always been involved. During a year or so at college, I hadn't yet found I church I liked so I wasn't as plugged in then
Currently I'm probably involved someway in my church 5-7 days a week
@Anonymous so what is it you imagine happens at a typical service theN?
hi @DavidStratton

4:17 AM

5:48 AM
I found this: none Church is perfect.
Like me.

shrug i choose a long time ago with churches to choose to care about salvation issues - and let the other stuff sort itself

I'm a sinner.

we all are

Yes. Which denomination you are?

@PaulVargas non-denominational - my background is mostly Lutheran. The church I go to now is non-denom but with a mostly Baptist theology

5:54 AM
I was attending to Baptist Church. But we have some problems... Because the pastor preach rules over rules...

@PaulVargas like what

We have to attend on time to the service. I think is OK.

ok...?

I don't have problem with the rules... But I think that the bases must be preach them. eg. the clothing

the clothing?

6:01 AM
The appropiatle clothing. None sensual. That is OK. But... what is the biblical base? That must be teach to the congregation.
I'm on mobile device.

howdy
@PaulVargas a biblical church is an anti-Christian church

Tell me more.

the Biblical canon was compiled and assembled by the church of Paul, a false prophet and anti-Christ

Do you some reference for read about thst?

Paul's own words show that he clearly rejected the teachings of the Christ

6:06 AM
Or... you are the guy?
Where was the Paul's Church?
Which words?
Hey, @SteelyDan, tell me more. Where are you from? What do you do?
Hey, @Anonymous, the report help you?

@PaulVargas Nope.
@PaulVargas Eh?

1 hour later…
12:57 PM
Hey, @Anonymous, in which university you study?
@All What do you think about Dinosaurs and the Bible by Ken Ham?

1:33 PM
Since I'm new to the site, wanted to verify here before I ask my first question. On topic or no? "Was God grieved when Satan rebelled and was cast out of Heaven?" -- I've been reading Ezekiel and Revelation and can't find any mention of God's "emotions" regarding this subject but was curious since he was the "Morning Star" and highest angel so I'd presume that up until he rebelled him and God were very close...

@TheCleaner On-topic, but Truthy. Unless you add in whose perspective you're looking for, be it early church, Catholic, Orthodox, Lutheran, etc. Even then, it's a bit shaky. It's interesting to me though.

Gotcha, read the link. OK, I'll attempt to phrase it then. Something like "Does the Orthodox faith show that God was grieved..." ? Or more like "Is there a biblical basis for God being grieved when Satan rebelled?" Really I'm just looking for proof/disproof on how God "reacted" beyond casting Satan out.

1:51 PM
@TheCleaner Unfortunately, "biblical basis" is generally pretty poor because one can use the Bible to support many, many contradicting positions. Now, if you did ask something like "According to the Orthodox faith, was God grieved when He cast Satan out of Heaven?", that would probably be rather passable.
Also, I just wanna go ahead and say that it's great that you're asking about how to phrase a question here. :D

OK, thanks.

Q: Has it always been the case that a greater percentage of Americans believe in Christianity than Britons?

Kenny LJIf so, why? And if not, when was it not the case that a greater percentage of Americans believe in Christianity than Britons? And what caused the subsequent divergence? Definitions. (For the purposes of this question only.) An American is any citizen of the United States. A Briton is any cit...

6:12 PM
@AskElisha Snarky answer: yes. Believe it or not, for most of the history of the Americas there were no Christians in the continents. Also true for the British islands and, for that matter, most of the world.
