Everyone makes mistakes, moderators on SO too.

if a post was in another language I was marking it as true, when it's only true if anusive or spam in another language
I was interpreting it as being yes true, it's in another language

I make similar things like that too, for example marking a post as naa because it was suggesting an alternative way, instead of answering the Q of the OP

10:21 AM
ah yes

So what types of feedback get people confused most often? Self-vandalism I know, foreign language posts could probably do with some guidance. What else?

@ArtOfCode Self vandalism seems still be confusing, because people find it weird that its true, while the post should stay. Sometimes plagiarism is hard to see for people. I didn't see more other recent confusions

Here's some guidance for common feedback confusions. Feedback/improvements etc welcome.

@ArtOfCode answers in a non-english language should be naa: meta.stackoverflow.com/a/297680

@ArtOfCode One fairly common thing not covered are NAA flaggable posts in general (did you have any luck with this?) etc.

I don't use tp on vandalism because doing so results in a useless report for the Tavern.

There is that... We could add a new reason for self-vandalism, and add that to non-Tavern reasons.
if the post matches repeating chars or few uniques, and it isn't the first revision, and the revision was by the owner, it's probably vandalised

What is SE comes up with autoflags, it also need to know not to auto vandalism with a red flag, however the rollback of the post should remove the flag
vandalism is something we want to block at the system level, but it doesn't nicely fit in the current smokey architecture

This time it worked because I separated "spam" by a space from the rest of the text. It doesn't matter what the rest is.

@AshishAhujaツ But in this case, only the first spam is a command, because its a reply, there is not a comma after a smokey command now

Hiya @Wrzlprmft

Hm, [support] posts are excluded from the sidebar... but that would be kind of a hostile edit.

@ArtOfCode I have a question about the plagiarism section. Should that be something smokedetector finds?

idk about SD K ing plagiarised posts

Hiya @Seth!

Me either.

1:21 PM
If they're something plagiarised from a good post, we'd catch the good post too

@Andy If it comes with a hidden link/ link to an unralted blog, I think we should match it

@AshishAhujaツ hi!

@Ferrybig That's not plagiarism then

@Ferrybig Then, of course
Thats keyword spam then :p

Straight plagiarism though (and there is plenty of copy pasting around SO) doesn't seem like something smokey needs to detect

1:22 PM
I think that plagiarism is relevant as long as it supports the case that the user is a spammer. Otherwise, it's beyond the scope.

@sandwich In the case of a spammer posting the same block of text to multiple locations, I don't think that's plagiarism though. That's spam.

Yah

But more common is copying some reasonable answer and adding a spam link.

But we can't make the metrics target plagiarism

Again, spam

1:24 PM
Only the spammy version of it

If it's an original answer that someone "signed" with a link to their site, I'm probably editing the link out and not flagging.
If it's copied from elsewhere and has an irrelevant link added, I'm flagging as spam.

@sandwich I can't disagree with either of those courses of action. My question, though, is about the guidance we are providing on plagiarism. I don't think that falls in our scope to detect. If we happen to find a user that is copying other answers and adding inappropriate links, we should deal with that as appropriate, not as plagiarism

@SmokeDetector tpu-
@Andy Yeah, that's probably true.

@ArtOfCode eh, looks like it's just not expecting a signed-in user to hit the signup route.
@Andy agree

Any objections to replacing github.com/Charcoal-SE/SmokeDetector/blob/master/… with message_parts = re.split('[ ,]+', content_source)? This will fix two minor issues: !!/report url (two spaces make empty argument) and spam, because blah (not recognized).
