Q: Spam posts are becoming more frequent

littleadvSince the forum becomes more and more popular - it attracts more and more automated spam posters. Is there some heuristic SE can implement to weed them out automatically? They seem to be following a pattern of random words and link seeds. Or at least require minimum rep to post clickable links...

Speaking of, I need to learn how to use LaTeX...

If you were in my class this semester, you'd have to. All assignments are done and collected on overleaf.com

Do you have a MOOC version? :P

@LiveForever You are an awesome teacher :P

Grading wouldn't scale to MOOC size, I'm afraid. Seriously, Overleaf is a good starting point because you begin with templates where a lot of cruft is already taken care of.

Who comes up with these library names?
> Chosen is a library for making long, unwieldy select boxes more user friendly.
"Chosen"?

It's about boxes that users choose from...

@LiveForever Hmm, ok. I've been tempted to write some reports with LaTeX but Word is so much easier to deal with for me.
@LiveForever Then you get a [chosen] SO tag though.
Then we get to React Slingshot...
Then there's Horsey -- is this for horses?

What happened to the idea of banning short URLs? I just checked a few of the more obscure ones... for example, twurl.cc is used in two answers, in both cases broken and I have no idea where they were meant to go (one is "Wikipedia article"). User hasn't been around in a year.
Or, say, pic.gd: used 3 times, all broken.

I've changed the parsing-from-all-spam reports to allow /users/\d+\D* in the URL, accounting for various tabs that one may or may not link to later. It's a reasonable question whether all user links should go to activity tab (since we're not interested in their badges and air of mystery).
!!/pull

[ SmokeDetector ] SmokeDetector started at rev a8b0f5e (Normal Human: allow ?tab=... in user URL) (running on Raspberry Pi)

But whichever way we go on this, changing the parsing regex and the set of tests every time feels like a busywork.

Any opinion on where the user links should go? (a) leave as is; (b) add ?tab=topactivity, (c) add ?tab=activity

Which user links? All of them?
Or just allspam?

For regular reports, like those above.
For allspam, I put ?tab=activity because this tab works for both network and site profiles. Maybe it should have been differentiated; for site profiles topactivity may be more informative, as it shows other accounts.

8:56 PM
I don't really care... whatever you want, go for it. :P
