[ SmokeDetector ] Offensive body detected: configure apache for tor hidden service by hugh g rection on tor.stackexchange.com

12:43 AM
Hey, @ProgramFOX @Undo: should we switch back to ManishEarth:CE or keep Charocal-SE:CE?

Btw, i ngeneral if you want faster responses on PRs, just put an r? @Manishearth on them
I have to figure out a better way of sorting my email
(GH provides it, but I haven't fiddled with it)

Do you filter for r? @Manishearth for Servo?

@hichris123 Nah, When you have @Manishearth in the PR then it emails me
otherwise it turns up in my GH notifications
which are like this

holy crap

@ManishEarth ... really? I get emails for all PRs on SmokeDetector.

12:46 AM
@hichris123 if ManishEarth:CE doesn't break Circle we should switch back :P

@ManishEarth That's what my Gmail looks like. :/
@Undo k

that was my quick fix to get Fox's change in

That's why I turned off emails for all PRs on github
@hichris123 turned it off :p

@hichris123 my inbox has exactly one thing in it
>:D

I have 5
But I get like 40 emails a day, of which 20ish are actionable
(not just servo stuff)

12:48 AM
Finally back doing consulting stuff, so much more exciting than paper writing
and tbh, more exciting than GCI stuff

And this is all inbox btw, I'm not even talking about my filtered lists
@Undo oh, you got GCI? :D

@ManishEarth yep

with? on?
Congrats!

@ManishEarth Not GSoC, mind you
tries to hunt down link

wow, grand prize :D
Oh, btw, might be mentoring GSoC this time.

12:51 AM
oooh awesome
wish I could participate

You can't?
Oh right

yeah
Although OpenMRS wants me to mentor it

@hichris123 Pulling latest from master -- CI build passed.

12:52 AM
yay!

@Undo ... woah. My Gmail has ~40, my hotmail ~140

ugh
Our family inbox has ~250
I need to sprint through it again
You wouldn't believe the terrible horrible email addresses kids come up with these days. Just in our youth group there are some gems.

lol

Because apparently non-rememberable emails are more secure

lol seriously?

12:55 AM
My name@erwaysoftware always makes kids jealous, and I'm like, "well there are still a whole bunch more combinations with @gmail that still look fairly decent"

Actually manish@goregaokar.com should work

@ManishEarth yeah. I had to go through a "computer safety" class, it was terrifying. Security by obscurity all the way.

though I can't send from it
@Undo :o
you should learn 'em

@ManishEarth if you own it you can have Gmail send from it
@ManishEarth I'm hated by teachers and school IT departments everywhere.

haha

12:57 AM
Called 'em out on blocking icloud.com once.
didn't go well, but hey they unblocked it.

@Undo I own the domain, but godaddy only gives forwarding (no smtp)
and for some reason gmail doesn't do the "send email with verification code" thing anymore

@ManishEarth I had erwaysoftware.com under GoDaddy for a while.
wait wut?

You can only do that via smtp now. I think

hrm, I had this working as late as this year IIRC
lemme check
... huh
apparently they did stop
that makes me sad

@Undo My school blocks archive.org.

1:01 AM
... because... ?
bet some kid found something not-very-good on it and they took the nuclear measure?

Because lightspeed is not useful? :P
They also block webcache.google.com/*

ah
I bet it's because they're both really tough to filter

[ SmokeDetector ] Offensive answer detected: What's a less offensive substitute for "Rep-Whores" by Michael Southcott on english.stackexchange.com

ahahahaha

1:03 AM
> There was a time when content filtering was just about blocking inappropriate content. Times have changed.
newsflash: times have not changed

lol

Really, what are they trying to say there?
> Today web filters need to provide safe, fast access to valuable educational resources and connections.
By getting out of the way

I can't remember if security.stackexchange is blocked too -- they block most "security" related stuff.
@Undo ... that ... uh... uh... I have no clue.

I was once at a college for giving a talk for a two-day event. At night I tried using the internet, they had:
- keyword based blocking
- broken https (because of said keyword blocking)
- keyword blocking of the word "proxy" so people won't circumvent it

ugh
bet they blocked "vpn" too?

1:07 AM
Except, I had recently gotten a comment on a question of mine related to proxies. Thus, my stackexchange multicollider was blocked
probably
fortunately I travel around with all the proxy-overcoming tools
corkscrew, tor, etc

@ManishEarth Lightspeed does that too. :/

@ManishEarth I just keep a script to insta-tunnel to my server

except for DNS tunneling, I haven't set that up
@Undo you need port 22 free

@ManishEarth why?

I have 3-4 tunnels ready to go

1:08 AM
I run it over 8080

...if that port is free

it's the alternative http port, it should be

@Undo And even if you put it on port 80, most of these connections have an HTTP proxy
While you can TCP tunnel through that, many a time it's configured not to
because that's the default

Even a simple SSH tunnel?

@Undo you underestimate the bluntness of these setups

1:09 AM
good grief
I guess I do

yeah

I tunneled off a plane once
5

SSH through a HTTP proxy, like HTTPS, requires an HTTP CONNECT
lol
I did that recently
and I MAC spoofed airport wifi

hah

@Undo If you didn't know what we were talking about... that statement would sound so weird. :P

1:10 AM
I refuse to pay actual money for an internet connection on the ground in a public place.
Not gonna happen
@hichris123 go ask on Aviation

Oh, btw, Servo updates
these are fun
Got basic certificate checking working in Servo; with some help from @seanmonstar and @jreem :D http://t.co/bEG3zmMwUa
Github on #servo running on the Firefox OS Flame! http://t.co/0RFT8JXhk0

Turns out all they were doing was 'adjusting' the DNS to point to their onboard server, if you know your server IP you're good to go

Seriously? wow.

That was a couple years ago
Last time I tried it it didn't work
so I spent the flight watching the Android Emulator load

@Undo yeah
lol

1:14 AM
and wondering how the heck you're supposed to plug something in to that "seat power supply"

@Undo TCP tunneling with corkscrew seems to work, actually

really

recently, on United.

@Undo It's faster now on a new computer. :P

but it was extremely flaky

1:15 AM
@hichris123 faster than a drunk snail isn't very fast.

Although it seemed to be single threaded -- used 100% of one core.

oh, it was using all of them.

@Undo Well, it did load in a minute or so...

warmed up the plane a couple degrees.

I'm trying to make the Android settings app faster, that's why I was using the emulator. Not too impressed with the Google people... so much overdraw.

1:16 AM
This is on Lollipop?

yeah.

huh
Android earned a little respect from me with Lollipop

^ is the rendering time for scrolling the main page of Settings.
To render at 60 fps, Draw + Process + Exec should be less than 16 ms.
... and that's just the main page!

opens instruments
I think there's a tool in here to gauge fps

Yeah, we have that too. But on device. :P

1:19 AM
... whaaat?
What kind of overhead does it add?

Probably not much...
Hmm, ok, maybe the FPS counter isn't in dev options.

@Seth I thought I remembered them too. But I couldn't find them.

Q: PDF.js with Google Apps Script

Annonomus PenguinI'm building a Google Docs plugin and I'm trying to pull a PDF from an external site to parse (for simple things like number of pages, text content, etc. that doesn't require visual rendering of the document). However, I've been having a lot of trouble integrating the Javascript library into my p...

I can't decide if that will be closed because of "external" code but I included the related snippet
Sigh I literally have wasted the past 2 days on this issue
@hichris123 not too impressed with Google people either, they can't add a page number function in their Google Apps Scripts!
