hmm
greetings!
this question of mine is on hold being off-topic
This question appears to be off-topic because it is about small appliance repair. — BMitch ♦ 5 mins ago

Q: How does the water get pumped in a coffee machine and how can it be fixed?

NeekuWe've got a SilverCrest SEM 1100 A1 coffee maker, sitting there for quite a while, so I felt like I have the urge to fix it today. Reading the manual, and checking the things step by step, I made sure no water is coming out, and I made sure the water reservoir is placed properly and that the ho...

any way to improve it to bring it on-topic? because, I've seen other similar posts that have been on-topic

@Neeku If we missed any, feel free to point them out here and we'll close them so others don't get confused, or clarify where our gray line is.
What we're avoiding is recreating the small electronics SE that failed because everyone had questions about how to fix some specific router or cell phone or TV remote, and few people were experts in such a diverse area. So to avoid that, we left everything that wouldn't typically be included in the sale of a home as off topic.

@BMitch sure, I'll flag them as I come across with them, but about that question, do you think asking explicitly about the water pomp will bring it on-topic? or shall I just go home and spend some more time with the device rather than trying to fix this question? xD
right, I can understand it.

@Neeku You can talk about it in here, there's really no off topic in here. :)
For your coffee machine, I'd start isolating different parts and testing them individually. Disconnect a hose, put some water in, see if the pump shoots it out the other side. Put water in the reservoir, see if it drains down the hose that would go to the pump, etc.

hmm, and is it safe to mess around with the hoses @BMitch?
I mean, some of them are fixed with those metal or plastic rings and I didn't bother to disconnect them

@Neeku I thought I saw one that looked like it had a removable spring clamp, but the others I wouldn't touch.
@Neeku at some point, it becomes cheaper and a better use of your time to just chuck it and buy a new one. Sadly, these days, I think that point is way too soon.

hehe, I know. this was actually given away by a relative just because they didn't have enough space with the kids and so on so we thought it's a working one, because, why would someone give a not-working machine without mentioning it? xD
I pretty much felt like it might be a simple clog, but yeah, not worth too much time
but knowing the functioning of a water pump would be handy, too

@Neeku How does the reservoir attach, or is it permanently attached? Wondering if there's some kind of valve in there that's not opening.

1:37 PM
it slides to sit on that hole (picture one) @BMitch
the valve/hole on the reservoir is letting the water out
and the hole on the base doesn't seem to have any blockage either
I mean, I disconnected those parts and checked and they weren't blocked

@Neeku So you've ruled out that connection for not working together? Seems like one of the most likely places for it to fail.

if it works, will it let the water flow down to the hose @BMitch? Because it doesn't I think, and I was thinking that the pump has to suck it inside

@Neeku You're asking me questions that I'm not an expert in (and I'm guessing no one else). Requires specific knowledge about that machine.

ok
no prob

But if you can't disconnect that hose, maybe poke a small hole that can be patched.

it was helpful anyways @BMitch, will investigate further more (:
I got a downvote on the question, too!
will deleting it refund the down-vote?

@Neeku Good luck! The downvote may be automatic with the close vote. No way to unbind those two. I'd hold off on the delete in case others disagree with my close, and some people may want to see the pictures to give you more help in here.

ok @BMitch, thanks a lot (:
that was all helpful (:

Oops! I deleted this answer before realizing I have a competing answer. So I don't get accused of having a conflict of interest, can someone have a look and confirm that I did the right thing (or undelete if not)?
