I spent most of my tabletop gaming time as a wargamer

user20683
for reasons that, in hindsight, seem indistinguishable for really, really hating my pocketbook

afk a bit

@Sandwich Lies! Haunter was always adorable! [skewed sense of adorable]

user20683
@Pixie I think you've a fairly conventional sense of adorable

12:10 AM
@WorldEngineer It's weirded out enough people before. :P

So adorable
Doesn't look like a murderghost at all

Haunter is the best
I still like Gengar though

Adorable murderghost, eh?

user20683
<- long time Warhammer player

user20683
I'm used to adorable being a warped perception

12:12 AM
... my fanart is almost in the top 10 image results for Bakemon. Woah.

user20683
@Pixie you drew that? I'm impressed.

@WorldEngineer Not that. I'll get my picture. xD
That one's official art.

Bakemon?

user20683
@Pixie I'm still impressed.

@WorldEngineer Thanks!

12:15 AM
oh he is a digimon,... huh

user20683
he's like a proto Devilmon IIRC

user20683
it's been like a decade since I watched any Digimon

it may have been longer than that for me

One of my favorites. That is probably one of the pictures I'm most proud of, heh. It's just weird to google something not even that obscure and see your own picture prominently displayed. xD

then again, when I was watching some of it I only saw a small number of episodes to begin with

12:18 AM
In the original anime, Jou and Sora found a church full of weird people they thought were human, but they were actually Bakemon in disguise, and the Bakemon tried to eat them.

...I step out for 20 minutes and the chat's covered in splatmon.

user20683
Monster Rancher was my favorite from the "Mons" craze

user20683
Warning: Ear Worm

@BESW Splatmon?
@WorldEngineer Yessss, Monster Rancher!

12:20 AM
@Pixie Splat.

Ohhh.

user20683
More Ear Worms:

user20683
I've always thought that something like Mummies Alive would make a neat short campaign

Great moments in history:

user20683
12:25 AM
Though to me, Pirates of Dark Water should be required watching for GMs running Nautical Campaigns:

Ohh I mentioned that show weeks ago

user20683
@Sandwich I saw that show original run

Me too

user20683
I was like 5

12:32 AM
Whats better than water that kills people
Nothing
Thats what

user20683
@Sandwich Living Cloudkill

Cloud? No way
Its like a black pudding but instead its water

user20683
@Sandwich hmm

user20683
I was thinking more as effect but hmm

user20683
Eberron has living spells

user20683
12:41 AM
which are oozes with that spell as a slam attack

user20683
Living Evard's Black Tentacles

Yeah that sounds like what I'm attempting to describe

Q: Is our interpretation of "too broad" too narrow?

Dale MBackground As suggested by @doppelgreener I am posing this question here in response to the closure of How does surprise work in D&D 5e? Specifically, my concern is that the "too broad" close reason is applied inconsistently - it is that that I would like answers to address but I am not averse ...

Q: Stop deleting valid comments because you don't like them

GMNoobOn this answer here: http://rpg.stackexchange.com/a/65542/2064 A definition is given of a word. That definition is NOT provided by the text of the book being referenced. My comment alerting readers to this fact is being deleted. If you are going to quote the book, quote the book accurately,...

@BESW I think you meant answer, not question, here.

Right.
My fingers do that all the time.

Yeah, me too. It's weird how that can happen without your mind making the same mistake.

Oh, most of my typos are like that: I think "fish" and my fingers write "beard." It's like I've got my own faulty autocorrect.

I once wrote an entire essay where random words were switched with the word "dog" without realising till I went back and read what I'd done.
I wasn't even thinking about dogs (or anything dog-related).

On the other hand, my mouth gets "left" and "right" mixed up.

7:09 AM
That must be awkward if you're giving directions :)

....yes.
Sometimes I get "left" and "right" mixed up as aural inputs, too.
That's how I failed my first driving test.

Ouch, that's gotta suck.
Like some kind of bizarre verion of dyslexia.

"Notpayingattentionxia."
Dystractedxia?
@KunTing Hi!

7:24 AM
@KRyan Grats on 100k for real this time :P

8:20 AM
Tonight's dinner is onion, carrot, veggie dog, and walnuts stir-fried in a honey-ginger-tumeric pepper sauce, on brown rice, with steamed veggies.

8:43 AM
@BESW Hah, this happens to me... a lot. Usually the word I get is similar but not the word I thought it was.

@BESW Ooooh. Drosera.
I should try my hand at those again.

We have... um... Mimosa pudica.

8:58 AM
Those are so cute.

They've got thorns underneath, and they hurt.

Ouch! They really do not want to be touched.

yeah, they fold back like that because they want to be less of a target for getting eaten

That reminds me, I need to stop being a bad plantmom and go water my pinguicula. >_>

lol
I was bad at that myself, I almost forgot to water some plant at the last house I sat

9:05 AM
It's easy to have overwatering issues with them, but I think I went a little too far in the opposite direction, so they're not in great shape right now. Started putting out a lot of aerials.

thankfully I did actually remember, and it only needed like, a little once a week

Haha, yeah, that's not too bad.
I'm trying to figure out whether my pings need to be watered once a week or twice a week. I think if I do any more than that I'm probably going to get root rot again.

9:49 AM
Two little Italian girls on train are dressed as butterfly fairies and retelling Inside Out to each other and its agonisingly adorbs

I am vaguely reminded: the other day, my coworker was chased by a bee and a palm tree. She was stung, hit with coconuts, and a palm tree even sprouted from her head.
(Working around kids is pretty fun sometimes.)

10:18 AM
Hello.

Howdy Partner

[boots up Minecraft, plays to the sound of about an hour of panpipes]

10:40 AM
Dear Skype autocorrect: "1ish" and "fish" are not equivalent.

XD
no they are not
I did see that,... that is a strange thing to correct to
though I think they don't count 1ish as a word soo

I've found that my Skype autocorrect prioritises letter count when searching for matches.

I never update my skype
I'm on an old version forever
I got tired of them trying to consistently update a piece of software that was never broken or had problems
I stopped updating it right before Windows 8 came out I think
Because I absolutely am not going to have the software I've been using for long distance communication change their interface
Thats rude microsoft :I

it is

No one likes Windows 8 stop pushing it on people

10:45 AM
it is also rude to constantly hassle someone to update something, especially when it isn't broken
XD
they are pushing 10 now, I think
lol
they will never stop

Its annoying as heck
Windows update is too
But I do those automatically during the time when my computer goes to sleep
Because any other time I'm using it

11:05 AM
yeah, I wish they didn't leave the default as "ok we will update you now" instead of "would you like to update?"

There are some very good reasons for pushing regular updates.

For serious system vulnerabilities, yes. For frivolous GUI updates no one wants, Never.

It's a bit more nuanced than that. I'm the first to agree that interface choices are often... poor... but there's a lot more than system vulnerabilities behind non-cosmetic upgrades.
Often an interface change is necessitated by a change to underlying features or compatibility with other products (or both, as when Skype teamed up with Facebook), or an upgrade is forced when some other part of the product's supporting systems gets changed and they have to play catch-up.
As for pushing upgrades, that's got some very weighty locus of control issues, but it's also a very important tool for developers to ensure compatibility with the increasingly wide field of interactive operating systems and applications.

[shrug] If you don't want to have an actual discussion, that's fine. ttfn

11:18 AM
Sorry I'm just not too heavily interested in backend program updates
If they really wanted to update their program they could trigger the update on systems or devices that had a certain version of the operating system they're updating for
Not sure if that's actually even possible though

@Sandwich That kind of "update without user permission" is the sort of thing people really complain about, and with good reason

Its the most annoying thing I can think of when it comes to computers tbh

Setting stimulus of the day: Cyberpunk or Dieselpunk meets Cthulhu Mythos
(An optional way to run this is: don't tell them you're actually running Cthulhupunk.)
(this way when a Shoggoth oozes up out of the sewer drains, you don't tell them it's a Shoggoth or they don't recognise "oh it's just a Shoggoth" - you get to just describe it, they have to try and reconcile this with the universe they think they're playing with.)

1:55 PM
I spent about thirty minutes clipping this off of a picture I found online
Shoggoth.. That sounds familiar
Isnt that like an ooze or something?

@Sandwich yes. shoggoth is the weakest type of migo, and it has the power of a tank.

@doppelgreener Hm. Only being vaguely familiar with the mythos itself, I thought those were two entirely different species.
One takes your brain to another planet, the other shlurps.
(also, one drops magic items when killed and is therefore known as a pinata - Arkham Horror taught me that one)

whoops my bad
i thought mi-gos was a word for "cthulhu mythos monsters", but nope it's a specific kind

Just a tank eh
That's good

6 hours later…
7:56 PM

An orc?

Yep.

I'll see your orc
And raise you a Thief Dress-sphere Rosalina

Cute! I haven't actually played any games with Rosalina, though.

stagger
Rosalina is the best Nintendo Princess though
Do you not have a Wii? :<

8:10 PM
I have a Wii, but I haven't bought a Mario game in years.

Get Super Mario Galaxy
You'll have soooo much fun
Hey @Doppelgreener
Cane Toads. :D

8:26 PM
@Pixie That's cool!

8:45 PM
I think Super Mario Galaxy is the last Mario game I have played
though I guess they have not made an exceptional number after it yet
or at least not too many that were as big

9:25 PM
CthulhuTech is a science-fiction and horror roleplaying game created by Wildfire LLC and published by Sandstorm that combines elements of the Cthulhu Mythos with anime-style mecha, horror, magic and futuristic action. The setting is Earth in the year 2085 during a worldwide conflict known as the Aeon War, (from the Necronomicon quote: "And with strange aeons even death may die") wherein the planet has been invaded twice: once by a black-skinned manufactured alien race known as the Nazzadi who are derived from humans and who join forces with them, and then a second time by the Mi-Go, an advanced...

Here's a heck of a backstory.
> (2 August, 1343.) Olivier de Clisson is found guilty of treason and beheaded at Les Halles in Paris. As a result, his wife, Jeanne de Clisson, sold their holding, bought a fleet of ships, and took to the sea as a pirate to seek revenge against King Philip VI of France and the nobility.

Last night's dream: I fought gluten intolerant zombies. I had to stick my knife in a bagel before going into battle.

10:18 PM
lol

11:02 PM
@Pixie Holy beans its Sunday already I almost completely spaced about maid
Also I wonder if Rose Quartz and Garnet would make the stupid awesomest possible fusion

#1 best cosplay cat http://t.co/S5wCzivfbD

@Sandwich Yeah?
(The cane toads message doesn't mean much to me, if that was directed at me.)

Oh wait
It was BESW that has to deal with Cane toads

Well, it's both of us, they're a thing where I live too.

11:47 PM
They've spread that far? D:
Noooooooooo

@BESW This is a great backstory.
@Sandwich They didn't spread here from Guam, they were separate invasive species introductions.

It'd be messed up if a typhoon carried them from Guam to Australia

That would be one heck of a typhoon.
@BESW Ha!

@doppelgreener There's something worrying about the phrase "separate invasive species introductions".

11:51 PM
they would be dead

@trogdor That would nevertheless be messed up. :D
@Miniman Sorry, I mean: separate strategic incursions.

@doppelgreener this is true

Great idea for a Palladium campaign

There are some Queenslanders who have taken to a project in their local areas of catching cane toads and putting them down in merciful ways. There was an interview with the person who organised this stuff, and he said that on floating the idea he received lots of people telling him it couldn't possibly work -- but found no evidence of anyone actually having ever tried. The projects have apparently reduced cane toad population significantly.

Nuclear war happens, the world is destroyed, and the last living creatures are mutated into humanoid beings
The most populated of these animal groups is the Australian cane toads and they quickly usurp control of the world with their powerful poison

11:55 PM
@Miniman Cane toads are especially... special... because they get deliberately introduced to new areas to control insects. Unfortunately, the cane toads don't eat the insects they're introduced to control (in many cases their life cycles mean the two species never cross paths at all), are poisonous to almost all predators, and eat almost anything they can fit into their mouths.

@doppelgreener Does "hitting as hard as you can with a golf club" count as "putting down in a merciful way"?

@Miniman That's dependent on whether they die in one blow or not

@BESW Oh, I'm familiar with the problem. It's just worrying that that's a phrase that makes sense.

@Miniman No. The method I recall from the interview was freezing them, and possibly killing them gently and quickly while frozen.

I read something about someone killing them and then burning them all in a huge metal vat

11:57 PM
(I don't remember if the second part is necessary but I think they can wake up from being quite frozen. The point of freezing them is that it puts them into deep sleep.)

By the time he was done it was full of cane toads and was essentially toxic waste

...burning cane toads sounds like a horrible idea. The smoke probably contains their toxins.

Specifically clubbing them would be very un-merciful.
