12:01 AM
That too, heh.

Huh. Usually it's me on that end of the regional blockstick.

12:42 AM
... and me
there is a Cards Against Humanity card in the Australian Edition that just says "Sorry, this content is not available in your region."
i think that says a lot XD
(I sent someone into a giggle fit and won the white card with that one once)

Heheh.

1:11 AM
I think the title is better than the song, sadly.

Today I was listening to a song called Time-Warped After Chopping My Stag Beetle by a guy called Manbou-dead-behind-the-house-P (and realizing that I could see most of his songs playing out in RFS).

@Pixie I find it hard to believe that a random police officer would know how long ago a particular species of insect died out.
Totally destroyed my suspension of disbelief.

1:26 AM
(But what if he rolled to be a stag beetle expert?)

1:40 AM
Character concept: A wealthy disabled person who funds cutting-edge assistive technology research and development, and secretly soups up the prototypes for her own use fighting crime as a vigilante.
Sort of a combination of Daredevil and Batman with a good healthy dose of subverting Reed Richards Is Useless.

That would be fun.

Assistive technology is increasingly creative and versatile, and digital advances make awesome stuff possible. I'd be very interested to see a story explore someone using that as a method of overcoming disability to become a super hero, rather than the tired and slightly tone-deaf (pun intended) "other senses compensate" gimmick.
(It'd also help avoid the "What does Wayne Enterprises actually do?" thing.)
The trick would be keeping the assistive tech from becoming gimmicks to ignore or trivialise disability, instead making them provide creative alternatives and new options which most people wouldn't think of because they have easier ways to get the same thing done.

2:04 AM
@BESW Yeah, that's the one thing I was thinking.

Barbara Gordon's bionic spine need not apply.

... and the exact example I had in mind! :P

(Evil Hat is working on a Fate Accessibility "handbook for bringing characters with disabilities into your games and players with disabilities to your table.")
Also and totally unrelated: Evil Hat is developing a Fate game based on the question, "What if Cthulhu was Skynet?"

@BESW I did not know this! That is a cool thing.

2:18 AM
If it's done well, it will be very welcome.
Looks like it's in good hands, at the very least.

Dante's Naked Medieval TARDIS Party. (warning for medieval marginalia nudity)

Oh my.

It's nakeder on the inside!
BTW, @Pixie:
(Apparently all those spires are the pointy roofs of cars!)

2:41 AM
@BESW Cthulhu has called upon every building to become dogs.
... dog cars.

Yes.
Do you think they chase themselves, or each other?

The streets will never be safe again, ever strewn with the burning wreckage of canine instinct.

"The Burning Wreckage of Canine Instinct" is a good name for a song--maybe even a whole album.

2:58 AM
Some say the world will end in fire, some say in ice. Actually, exploding dog cars.

iMac box is a trapezoid with the front 10° out of parallel with the back. Which means that if you have 36 of them... http://t.co/0IX8sZoXSO

3:41 AM
Any 3.5 ppl around/awake? Got some things I wanna discus and it's not exactly suited to a Q&A format.

throw it out there

3:56 AM
Trying to hash out the potential issues of this race.
Seems to me that it's more of an LA +1 as is, though there are a few things that look like they contradict.
The subtype works fine if it's not on an Undead type, but as is at the very least that bonus feat is definitely unneeded.

4:32 AM
Ask Lovecraft role-plays a nun in a game of Arkham Horror.

5:02 AM
Oh yeah
3.5

5:13 AM
Not sure what they rolled on that group Diplomacy check, but the circumstance modifier alone must have been mind boggling. Needless to say it was a success!
Circumstance to Perform for the sheer awesome, Perform to grant Circumstance to Diplomacy, Diplomacy to convince them to come.

5:26 AM
@Pixie Gen1 B/R Haunter looked TERRIFYING

5:40 AM
(@doppelgreener, more notes for Stellata?)

I used to read skin horse
It got kind of boring though

Some of the arcs are paced a bit weirdly, or go in unusual directions.

I think I stopped on the rampage arc where that girl in that comic there was trying to convince the dog to go on a rampage

I have too many web comics as is already XD

@Trogdor tell me about it
I have QC, OOTS, Nerf Now, Girl Genius, Least I could do, Manly guys, Leage of redundant super heroes, Paranatural, Valoran, Awkward Zombie, Paradox Space, D20, CAD, Oglaf, Life in Aggro, Gilded Age, Three Panel Soul, Mokepon, Let's speak english, Dr. McNinja, Harpy Gee, and uh.. Gamercat, Sinfest, Lets Speak English
Though I'm very angry at Sinfest rn

5:46 AM
I recognize a few of those from my list
like OOTs and Girl Genius and Dr Mcninja
I think you have a few more than me overall

@Sandwich "D20"?

D20 monkey
Its a comic about tabletop games

@BESW XD nice

6:13 AM
So RPGs aren't the only thing it is usually silly to apply the rules of physics to.....scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/38081/…

Hey guys i dunno if this is specific enough for a game recommendation question...thoughts? "I am looking for a dungeons and dragons adventure book from any edition (but preferably 4th) where the objective is to delve a multi story dungeon to collect a treasure/artifact and then figh your way back out. I'd like it for there to be hidden safe areas... possibly small settles ments of former adventurers who are trapped or other wise unwilling to venture further down or too scared to escape"
anyone know if maybe the under dark fits that bill? i know the new underdark module is coming in spetember... maybe i should check that out?

There could be multiple products that fit those criteria. I think even 13th Age adventure book Eyes of the Stone Thief qualifies.
13th Age is soooort of a D&D edition.
Here's a preview of Eyes of the Stone Thief that specifically talks about people trapped in the living dungeon.
I haven't run it yet, haven't even read it properly. But on flipping through, it is full of great ideas. It's got undead librarians that shush characters for psychic damage if players speak louder than a whisper, books that stun you, letting you roll a save only once you've read a page aloud, and swordapus, a sword-wielding sentient octopus swashbuckler.

6:34 AM
hmmm that seems liek a pretty close idea to what I was thinking... though i think i might wanna stay away from shifting halls.... I threw a maze that shifted like that at my players and one of them got so frustrated i think a bloodvessle in his head was about to pop.... Hilarious! but i think the poor boy deserves a rest lol
I'm sold

I'm sure you can plunder the book to make a static dungeon, if that's what you're after.

I'm sure i can and Lucas can suck it because shifting paths are funny
XD
but yea that Xonthals tower maze in the rise of tiamat... I dont think he has been as relieved to get out of an obstacle more throughout the entire campaign (which we finished tonite).

@MC_Hambone the missing part is: why the heck do you want this, that you're accepting any adventure from any edition
AD&D dungeons weren't like D&D 4e adventures, the former gave you tons of tricky things and assumed AD&D's fighting dynamics (including that you'd be incredibly resourceful with all kinds of spare things and murder the hell out of things quickly) while D&D 4e adventures were more concerned with mechanically meaningful strategic terrain and etc
getting a practical understanding of what you're going to do with this thing (in a fairly strange request) will let us better know how to answer

3.5 dungeons deal with loot very differently than 4e dungeons, and each edition has different assumptions about what movement options are available to the party at any given level.

What ever it is I'll be adapting it to 5th since thats what my group knows best
i guess that is kinda imporant lol

6:44 AM
that it is

Omg

that means it needs to be an adventure that is reasonably compatible with what D&D 5e expects, whatever that happens to be

Faker just donated to SGDQ
FAKER from SK Telecom T1!

i asked for 4th since thats the only other version i played... i mostly want like maps... then traps and puzzle ideas

@Sandwich i understand all of this like i understand sub-proton physics

6:46 AM
Quarks YEEEEAH

which is to say excellently since greener is a theoretical physicist ;)

that is correct in an alternative universe that is not this one

lol

actually i understand it a little bit, but i still don't know who faker is or what that SK thing is c(:

but yeah... as for my request I would be highly modifying what ever it is, ripping out all the monsters (might use them as inspriation tho if tied to the dungeon for a good reason) adding ym own traps and puzzles... personally i am just looking for inspiration and maybe a few maps to steal
i just thought that it might be an OK question since 5e doesnt have a mega dungeon yet (even tho i forgot about that part lol)
you know... others might be looking for the same thing

6:50 AM
sure, just needs criteria that make it better than a collection of everyone's favourite megadungeon
"i'm going to use this for 5e" means we can recommend stuff that make reasonable sense in 5e

hence why i came here first :D

15
A: Pre-built square-grid maps?

BESWWizards.com itself has a massive collection. Finding exactly what you need can be tedious, but for sheer volume it's hard to beat the wizards.com galleries and archives. The Art & Map Gallery and the Map-A-Week Archive are both free, and give access to most of the maps published in D&D 3.5 phys...

Almost every map Wizards ever published for 3.x is on their site, just with a lot of the text scrubbed off.
If you're just looking for setpiece inspiration, there ya go.

looks good B. definitely adding that to book marks
and i need to find a PDFof that 13th age mega dungeon and adventure because it sounded right up my alley as far as comedy purposes

now to trick the internet into thinking i have 24.99...
lol

7:03 AM
@BESW I've noticed lately that Wizards has been pulling a lot of archived D&D content.
At least, it seems like it, because the usual method of getting to it has failed to function.

11
A: How can I continue to access Wizards of the Coast's D&D 3.5 Web articles?

doppelgreenerThe archive feature will generally get you the content you once had a link to. There's a couple of URL forms I recognise that'll work. /dnd/Article links For Article pages — ones that have /dnd/Article.aspx in the URL, like in the question — there's still a way to access them: replace the 'www'...

Yes, that method has been failing to function.

That might be worth a new question, or an editing of that one.

Huh, it seems to be back. Whoops.
Luck of the Draw and similar downloads seem to be non-functioning, though, which is a shame.

@IronHeart I think you mean "downlods."
(You can easily find that pdf hosted elsewhere, through Google searches. I'm not sure what the legal status of that is.)

7:54 AM
@Sandwich -copies into his 'webcomics to read/check/explore' list-

here, have a fun webcomic: Ava's Demon (you can navigate using the arrow keys)

If we're doing webcomic dumps...
(Does not include some stuff, like Narbonic, that's over and done.)

Pretty good so far @Doppelgreener
Aww heck! Snowflame has a COMIC?!
Oh another Linkara watcher

@BESW You have Garfield Minus Garfield Plus Lying Cat!!!!!!!
Do you read Saga!? Or just enjoy the hijinks? :)

Actually, I got G-G+LC from you.

8:05 AM
Whats the link to that one @Doppel?

Oh! XD
For those wondering: Garfield Minus Garfield plus Lying Cat. All you need to know is that Lying Cat is a wonderful leopard-sized sphinx cat who can tell when someone's lying, and says so.
(Lying cats are a species. The lying cat we see in Saga is the companion of a bounty hunter.)

Hahahaha
Lying cats sound awesome
Are they in that Fate addon?
That'd be sweet

They don't appear to say anything else.
@Sandwich No, they're from the Saga comic book.
Saga is an epic space opera/fantasy comic book series written by Brian K. Vaughan and illustrated by Fiona Staples, published monthly by Image Comics. The series is heavily influenced by Star Wars and is based on ideas Vaughan conceived both as a child and as a parent. It depicts a husband and wife from long-warring extraterrestrial races, Alana and Marko, fleeing authorities from both sides of a galactic war as they struggle to care for their daughter, Hazel, who is born in the beginning of the series, who occasionally narrates the series as an unseen adult. The comic was described in solicitations...

We need to homebrew some lying cats for other game systems then

8:08 AM
Its important now

And the saga is about these two lovers on the run from their warring civilisations, and their daughter Hazel.

Sounds neat
Wizards with Lying cat familiars hmmm

And a crapload of other things that are being set into motion via the butterfly effect.

Heh heh
Thats funny stuff

Lying cat is a great character.

8:20 AM
I'd play a game of RFS as that Character

That's a good idea. XD

Can declare anything to be a lie which makes it false
"Our princess is stuck in another castle!"
"Lying"
Princess opens the door to the bathroom and walks out

LOL
THAT'S GREAT

"The Lawful Evil dictator is going to win another term!"
"Lying."
Third panel has Lying cat wearing this hat: clker.com/cliparts/u/X/x/K/v/O/independence-day-hat-hi.png
Fourth Panel: Lying cat stomps the elections, runs on an All-truth platform, first in history to do so

@Sandwich alternate ending: everyone relaxes, turns out the evil dictator actually removes the democratic establishment and installs himself as eternal leader

8:32 AM
"Mr. President, the President of Iran has fired Atomic warheads at us!"
"Lying."

Wait, is Lying Cat now the President?

Theoretically
The lying cat from the comic, I think, might have abilities that go a bit beyond simple lie detection - but not into precognition or omnipotence c(:

Depends on what RPG system you play him in!
In RFS He becomes an Omnipotent entity capable of rewriting causality to suit his whims!
In Pathfinder he'd probably just be a lie-detecting familiar

8:49 AM
hahaha
very fair

In fate he'd probably be a cat with an absurdly high Notice skills
So high that he can always realize when someone is lying

> Lying! You can use Notice to Create Advantage against a difficulty of 4 to declare that someone was lying with a direct factual statement they just made, as long as they could plausibly have an inkling of how true it was.

Yeah that'd probably fly
I assume his Investigation skill would be pretty high too
Since interrogating someone would always reveal falsehoods

Lying cat doesn't do interrogation, being more or less a cat who can say someone's lying. Whoever he's a companion of might though.

9:12 AM
Yeah maybe
It'd be about asking the right questions
And getting the answers to those questions

yep ;)

Oh man
I just thought of something
Lying cat would be the best courtroom tool a judge could have
You could immediately find out when someone perjures themself

1 hour later…
10:19 AM
@doppelgreener Well you gave me that one, so here's my favorite: paranatural.net

10:31 AM
@BESW What was that one that's ended too about 12 psychics in London? The apocalyptic steampunk one.

2 hours later…
12:03 PM
@Miniman They also could've just used Witch's Aphrodisiac along with Killua's speed to get all their cards as well
@Miniman or Divine Punishment Cane

12:37 PM
@Zachiel Hmmm?
Played Great Ork Gods tonight. Was brilliant. It started with raiding a halfling camp to punish them for playing their icky music all night, and concluded with a Mad Max style chase between a caravan of halflings drawn by ponies and a caravan on fire drawn by an orc.

1:07 PM
At one point, an orc caught on fire and paused mid-battle to re-name himself The Burning Fury. When he finally got the fire put out, the goblins all pointed and laughed because his name was wrong.
Trogdor's first orc died on his first turn, falling down a well in the middle of a charge.
His second orc got cocky and was dogpiled by armed halflings.
Greener's first orc accidentally ripped himself in half while trying to remove a polearm from his gut.
It was all very murderhobo-y, and wonderful.

That sounds fun as heck

And it was a real treat to GM.
The players set all the difficulties and make all the rolls. GMing is purely narrative.

Sounds really RFS'y

It can have a similar tone, but it's structured very differently.
Each player is in charge of one or more of the eight Great Ork Gods who rule over the Orks' actions.
Each player also runs an Ork.
When your Ork does something risky, the player who controls the god of that action's scope--war, sneaking, movement, strength, death, etc--sets the difficulty at 1, 2, or 3.
Then all the players can spend "Spite" to increase the difficulty further if they want.
Spite is gained when an Ork succeeds on an action your god presides over, because the Great Ork Gods don't like uppity Orks.
The Ork rolls d10s equal to the difficulty, and succeeds unless any of the d10s is equal to or below the Ork's "Hate" score with that particular god (Hate is between 2 and 5, determined randomly when you make your Ork).

That sounds fun
Really fun

1:27 PM
Is there any reason why in D&D 5E giving players too much gold might be a problem?

Well it messes with CR in prior versions of the game
I'm not a 5E expert but having too much money would likely make the PCS more powerful than their average level

1:46 PM
@Sandwich thanks

No problemo @SolidusVerum

@BESW Adding to that, one orc actually managed to survive for the entire session and only die at the very end. He tried to stop the final fleeing caravan of halflings by pulling in front of it with his own caravan (which he was hauling himself, in place of ponies, because what else would you do in a caravan chase) - and the halfling caravan crashed through it and destroyed it.
But he did stop the halfling caravan, which subsequently crashed onto its side, only to then be destroyed by Grin, the son of Fists the Immovable (an orc who had previously lasted only three turns before dying horribly)

orc death all around really
we had 5 orc deaths overall I think

2:01 PM
yeah, that sounds about right
@BESW Unless you are Fists the Immovable, who apparently insulted the God of Flailing Limbs so much that he was almost unable to move (hate score of 9).

yeah,...

It occurs to me you can actually be unlucky enough to have a hate score of 10 or 11 with a single god. As long as you're also dumb enough to insult the very same god who also hates you that much to begin with.

I was the God of flailing limbs,.... I gave him an easy on his first action
but he failed because he literally needed a 10 on that roll XD

I got a 9 though! he almost managed!

uh,... he might possibly be asleep now

2:07 PM
He might be. @Ashley, are you available to move some messages to this Ava's Demon room?

in fact, I myself need to go to bed 20 minutes ago XD

GET THEE TO A BEDDERY

@Sandwich @SolidusVerum Not really; as long as you can't buy magic items, once everyone who wants it has plate money stops being really useful.
The only thing to watch out for is "creative" stuff like the elephant bomb.

Or Quall's feather token - tree
I mean like seriously what can't you do with a tree at any given moment

user15026
2:29 PM
@doppelgreener Kinda busy with work atm, will let you know when I am free and then I might be able to help :)

@AshleyNunn Ok! Should I flag instead?

2:47 PM
I shall flag, as I'm going to bed very soon. Moderators: I need this message through to this one moved to the Ava's Demon room as they are spoilery materials.
And also this one through to this one, except for Magician's FreakAngels message.

@Doorknob Thanks!

3:04 PM
@Sandwich I did say as long as you can't buy magic items

Yeah if you can't buy magic items gold is just a status symbol
I guess you could use it for hirelings?

If you can find a use for them

"Charge at that thing with your swords?"

"Die pointlessly and maybe save us a round of damage", more like
You're better off just buying elephants
They're so versatile

Or Bribing Mind Flayers
Or Dragons

3:12 PM
Yeah, that's not guaranteed to backfire at all >.<

Not guaranteed no
But still possible if you're working with absolutely no magic items

If you give either of those creatures gold in sufficient quanitities for them to notice, you're effectively holding up a sign saying "Has lots of gold! Eat me and take it!"

user15026
@Doorknob Thanks, work was super busy so I couldn't get to it :)

@Miniman If you were negotiating with an aboleth maybe
Good dragons love gold just as much as bad ones
@Miniman I wonder how Pregnancy stone works...

@Sandwich ...
?

@Sandwich Probably has to do with Hisoka filling time in the City of Love

Yeah but it can impregnate women AND dudes
How

Cos Greed Island is just magic bro
Legit pure magic

4:44 PM
@KRyan Pre-congrats on 100k rep!

heh, thanks

You're only 200 away
Gonna go upvote some of your stuff
The 3.5 stuff anyway

I mean, your votes are yours and giving attention to older questions and answers is always good, but do be sure to do it right, make sure my answer actually deserves it and check out any other answers there and vote on those as well

Your best answers are good answers
I've read over them before, specifically the grease spell answer
I love the grease spell so that really hit home

grease is fantastic, was my first-ever character's signature spell

4:50 PM
I used it and the help of a barbarian to push pirates off of a ship once
There were sharks

I readied an action to put grease in the guarded doorway just as the enemy paladin was charging through
she failed her save, fell, slipped right into the guards, and all three landed in a heap just outside the door

Heh heh

where the rest of my party was waiting

I hate to admit, but my first character's signature spell was scorching ray >.<
Also, @KRyan gratz on the 100k!

My first characters signature spell was Spiritual hammer

4:54 PM
@Miniman heh, still 123 short
thanks though

But that was long long loooong before 3.5

@KRyan Eh, it's not like I'll remember when you actually get there :P
I think my all-time favourite spell will always be evard's black tentacles, though

@Miniman hah, fair

Not Evard's Spiked Tentacles of Forced Intrusion?

@Sandwich I came to OotS quite late, actually

4:56 PM
Hmmm
I think all in all my favorite spell is always gonna be Prismatic Wall
Just because there are a lot of ways to screw someone with it

It's pretty sweet
I mean, it's one of the spells that got an entire class built around it

Bag of holding + Portable hole was pretty fun too
Especially if you needed something to get gone

anyway, lunch time
later

Heh, 3am here
Should go sleep
See y'all

See ya later @KRyan, Grats again
There should be a badge for 100k rep though

2 hours later…
6:48 PM
@Miniman They could've also use Fate-cutting scissors to cut up a picture of Gensuru
Then they never would've seen him again

3 hours later…
9:37 PM
@Miniman Leorios last name is Paladiknight X3

1 hour later…
10:50 PM
@BESW As Magician suggest. FreakAngels. I liked it very much.

11:18 PM
Wait, no, this one's more recent.

RIP Guam

Honestly it's not nearly so awful as it looks.
And, as you can see, Guam's kinda used to this sort of thing.

yeah, so far this one looks like a bit of a pansy

I'm just glad it didn't rain on Geek Night like the last two.

yeah
that was not cool

11:31 PM
Also this is what, 3 typhoons in four months? I think we're making up for almost a decade of taya' månglo'.

yeah

user20683
Anyone done much with Numenera?

user20683
I've glanced through the core book

user20683
mostly concerned with effort to GM

You're coming in on the deadest part of the week for this chat, so it may be a while before someone with the experience to speak on that subject shows up.

user20683
11:47 PM
@BESW I am a Programmers moderator, our chat is deader than yours.

user20683
on average for this time

Yeah, this does seem to be one of the livelier rooms around.

user20683
@BESW generally the larger the site, the livelier the chat

user20683
Programmers tends to be very "other monitor" so we get a bunch of traffic on weekdays and then it falls off on the weekends

user20683
punctuated by occasional points of interest and an avalanche of the desperate and confused.

user20683
11:49 PM
since our name should be "Software Development Concepts" or similar

Yeah, we definitely get most of our traffic (chat and mainsite) from folks during their work hours.

user20683
@BESW that's interesting but it makes sense since that's when people are bored/planning campaigns

Aye. Weekends are generally when people actually get to play RPGs, and weekdays are when we're thinking about 'em.

user20683
@BESW in fact, I will shortly be running some D&D for my girlfriend

user15026
@BESW Man, it has been so long since I've played.... :(

user20683
11:52 PM
I'm testing Roll20 and getting a handle on 5e after years of Shadowrun 4e and D&D 3.5 (though I'm familiar with basically everything outside of White Wolf)

user20683
and 4th edition

@AshleyNunn Heh, we've got a handful of jonesers, too.
My group plays most every Saturday night; last night we tried Great Ork Gods for the first time, and it was a smashing (and lighting things on fire) success.

user15026
@BESW I had a group for a while but it fell apart because we had massively different schedules and then we all got grown up jobs and things :(

I would like to join a weekly game

user20683
@Sandwich I might, at some point, run one of those

11:54 PM
Also Sam sparks from Cloudy with a chance of meatballs is adorable

@AshleyNunn The only way I've been able to hold my group together is by changing the sorts of games we play and the sorts of stories we tell, so anyone who shows up and jump in, and if they're gone for a long time they can slip back in easily when they return.

user20683
at the moment, I'm looking more to run bi-weekly or monthly

user20683
@BESW I've found Shadowrun works incredibly well for that.

user20683
run everything as episodic missions

Yup, we do the same with ARRPG.

user15026
11:55 PM
@BESW It doesn't help most people I know aren't local, so it's harder

I'm all fine with Chatroom Roleplaying

And we've got a lot of one-shot games if we feel that'd be better for a given week, like great Ork Gods last night.

My second D&D game was done over IRC

user20683
@Sandwich I spent a good chunk of time doing things on Myth Weavers

user20683
@BESW I'm drawing a blank on that acronym

11:58 PM
@WorldEngineer The Roleplaying Game. It uses a crunchy-modified version of the engine.

user20683
@BESW ah

user20683
I own a copy of Diaspora, that's as far toward FATE as I've gone

Fate's changed a lot since then.
(Including no longer being an acronym!)

I've read two pages on the Fate SRD!
man flex
