Q: What are the more common house rules for Cthulhutech and the Framewerk system?

Lobo7922Do you remember Cthulhutech? I been interested in running a game inside that universe, but I have read some people saying that "Framewerk" is a broken system. Framewerk is the Cthulhutech conflicts mechanics base system. I have read the books and I can't tell why people may be saying it's broken...

I have the sense that this is still too broad
on an unrelated note, i.imgur.com/5ODJZRg.jpg >.> i find myself making more graphics for my game than anything else

2:57 AM
@Adeptus It's what I do...

3:17 AM
@Tritium21 it is.
"what do you use?" is a survey, not a problem with an answer.

3:37 AM
@SevenSidedDie Sorry about the muckup on that invisibility question - not at all what I meant to do.
Awkward that the first time I used my new powers would be by accident.

3:56 AM
@Miniman That's what I figured happened. No harm, no foul! Mistakes are excellent ways to learn, besides. :)

@SevenSidedDie Wow, and I didn't even get the right question when I reclosed? This is why I shouldn't do anything before lunch.

@Miniman It defaults to any that have comments and doesn't remember previous duplicate closes, so it wouldn't have even been in the menu. I've miscast votes that way too.

4:27 AM
I'm in SC, more or less unscathed for the extra four hours tacked onto an 11+ hour flight because of weather problems.

@BESW Yikes. And I complain about half-hour delays on 1-hour flights.

This would be one reason I like nice long layovers.
Despite the four-hour delay, I hit my connecting flight gate five minutes before they started boarding.

4:53 AM
Gotta have that margin of (other people's) error.

7 hours later…
11:41 AM
I hate choosing prestige classes
I never know which ones to take

@Zachiel Do you have a concept in mind?

I already am a level 8 cleric with the nature and good domains (Nobanion from FR is the god) that likes to melee
I'd take warpriest but it's downright horrible

close your eyes and throw a dart?

@Zachiel Ok, so you're just looking for a prestige class that improves on cleric with no partciular bias?

well, he's not a contemplative for sure
I'd go divine disciple but everybody takes that class and I can only take 2 PrCs
the second one I'd like to be something that gives me access to wraithstrike
but that'd be for past level 20
getting a full BAB PrC wouldn't be bad either

11:47 AM
Full BAB full spellcasting is pretty rare
I really like the Sexorcist, personally
Stormlord is really cool, but you have to build your character around it
ToB fans will recommend the Ruby Knight Vindicator every time

I can lose some spellcasting levels even if that's delaying my level 9 spells one level
Stormlord doesn't really excite me
And... no ToB, sadly

I'm not a big fan of ToB, personally
But anyway, if you're willing to drop some spellcasting to get BAB that changes things a little

let's say all completes, stormwrack, the one for the ice which name I can't remember and all FR material, plus core and races of (no races of the dragon)
uh, all completes except psionic and with some vetos here and there
I'm logging out now but I'll be back

12:06 PM
Hmmm. The only one I can come up with that really suits what you're trying to do is the Fist of Raziel, and that's from the Book of Exalted Cheese.

Hullo everyone. I hope you all are having a good day. =)

It's 42 degrees outside. We're barricaded inside with the air conditioner, afraid to face the world.
So, you know. Sort of a good day. :)

Your fear is justified.

12:24 PM
Okay, so I just got 10k rep, and with my new super privileges its telling me I have 4 posts waiting for review. However, when I go to the Review page I can't see anything. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Also, congrats. :)

@Wibbs Someone already reviewed them probably.

@Aaron nah, still showing them when I click away and come back

Oh. Shrugs

@lisardggY O_o doesn't make much sense to me

12:31 PM
Maybe this, which is specifically about RPG.SE:

Q: Review flag count is still wrong

SevenSidedDieIn "Flagged question count is wrong" the bug that left review flags visible in the top-bar counter was supposedly fixed, but it's never actually been fixed for me. This is what I'm looking at today: My review queues are all empty though. Six is abnormally high, normally it sits (every day, all...

Seems that if you Skip a review task, it will still show up in the count, but not show up in your review queue.

where do I access tools to 'access reports, delete questions and review reviews'?
which apparently are my new privileges
O_o
and see deleted questions

Seeing deleted questions just happens whenever you click a link to a deleted question
For the other stuff, hit review, then tools
(top left corner of the review panel, under questions)

@Miniman When I do that all I get is three links
information about moderation tools
new answers to old questions
suggested edit stats
is that what I should be seeing?

I guess? I see more, but I think that's a 20k thing
You can vote to delete any question with a negative score and at least one flag (I think). It's a link with the edit, comment, flag links

ah cool

12:41 PM
For example, you could vote to delete this
(It kind of needs it anyway)

@Miniman I guess the fact I've already flagged it as poor quality means I don't have access to that option?

Or I'm just wrong - I'm not really sure which bits are 10k and which bits are 20k

my confusion is mainly that I'm not really seeing any additional functionality compared to what I had before 10k O_o

Did you go to This Link
Oh you mentioned it above nevermind
My reading retention sucks today. I just had to re read the same page like 3 times because I zoned out

Cool, so I've worked out about how to delete posts
Do posts that have been deleted just show up in the normal question list for me, or do I have to look somewhere in particular?

12:58 PM
You can only find them if you have a link
I think BESW finds them by searching for cached Google pages, but my google-fu isn't up to that

1:18 PM
I believe the option to actively search for deleted questions is open only to diamond mods.

correct
@Wibbs if they are yours, there is a link in your profile to "Recently deleted posts" or somesuch

ah cool
thanks all for the help
:)

[sigh] I can't get my GoPhone card to go on any network. So much for a quick easy cell phone while I'm here.

1:42 PM
[pokes APN settings] I have no idea what this stuff is, I'm just doing what the Internet tells me to.

lol, welcome to my everyday :)
@BESW visiting the mainland?

Yup.

cool, any chance you'll be anywhere in a 2 hr radius of chattanooga?

[does a quick Google]
6.5 hours by car.

heh, Charleston?

1:49 PM
Myrtle Beach, a leg down to Charleston, and up to Rochester and Ithaca in NY.

sounds like fun

I've got an extremely obscure smart phone (leftovers from a friend) which may or may not be why GoPhone isn't playing nice.

skydevices.com/index.html#support they have a help line if that helps

@Pureferret Hey there - sorry for rejecting your suggested edit, but it really didn't belong in the post itself.

2:09 PM
@Unihedron This one? It looks like something that belongs. "My keyboard has ants in it, this is its model." Now people know what kind of keyboard it is and what to do with it to get the ants out. It also gives people an idea of your experience in assembling/disassembling things, so if something's complex they'll advise in baby step sized instructions.
Let's put it this way: it adds important context to the question, and since comments get deleted, it doesn't belong in a comment. Or future readers will be confused, because people will be acting on information that got deleted.

@doppelgreener I disagree with the premise that it's important context. Firstly, none of the answers so far, and to predict, at any later point, really cares about which model my laptop is (I added it in a comment after Mooseman asked me to), and that my stance against (dis)?assembling things only affects how I'll accept answers, not whether they'll remain useful to future readers

So a mod asked you to specify, and it's not remotely important enough to add to the question?
I guess I'll let you work this out yourself with LH people. Not a site I'm active on, and this isn't its chat.

2:33 PM
@waxeagle - Next week might, I repeat might be a go. What was I creating again? Or, would there be any use for a dragonborn bard?
25 point buy?

@JohnP we've got a bard. we could definitely use a rogue :)
@JohnP yes
level 6 still

Rogue...::mutter plot congeal::
got it.

A rogue is merely a different kind of wizard. A stabomancer.

...my aunt's house is the kind of place where there is no tumeric to put in my coffee.

2:57 PM
Tumeric in coffee?

@BESW powdered or fresh?

Powder: tumeric, cinnamon, and chili, with brown sugar, soy milk, and a splash of vanilla.

sounds yummy

3:10 PM
Reading that line actually made me gag a little bit. :(

It's pretty great, especially in cold brew.

3:25 PM
@DuckTapeAl it's a set of closely matched flavors. chili, cinnamon, chocolate and coffee all go well, and tumeric is in a similar vein
basically, I'd put all 5 of those in chili
(and do put chili powder, cinnamon and chocolate in my chili when I make it)

Baker's chocolate in chili is awesome.

@BESW Yes. Or if you subscribe to alcohol theories about chili, a good chocolate stout or porter works well too.

I don't do alcohol at all, actually.

The alcohol burns off during cooking, and the flavor palate remains.

If I did, that'd probably be very tempting.

1 hour later…
4:51 PM
@JohnP Myth. Alcohol will never be totally burned off, and if you are doing a short saute with alcohol, almost all of it will still be in the dish.
Well...crap, I was looking for the FDA research... i found it...on an AA site >.>

5:11 PM
@Tritium21 I usually crock pot my chili for more than 3 hours. That's the time it takes to cook out alcohol at a minimum.

5:27 PM
slowcookers usually work at lower than a simmer.

@Miniman I guess I'll go pure cleric then

6:06 PM
@JohnP typically unless you reflux the food it won't remove any more than 40% of the boozamahol....

[amused] That had to be protected?

@BESW people like alcohol, and oWoD have opinions about things they like?
I can will imagine lots of people feeling like they have to justify their addition of alcohol to food

Ah, like how when I tell people I don't, there's an almost universal need to tell me that I'm silly for it.

@BESW same

7:09 PM
Do you not add alcohol to food when preparing it (i.e. beer-battered....somethings) or just don't drink it?

Both.

Okay then. =) I've never noticed the effects of alcohol when prepared in food. White wine garlic sauce, beer-battered...anything. I usually can't really tell the alcohol is there.

It's a religious law, though it's not a burden for me as I'm personally not fond of alcohol anyway.

Ahhhhhh
That makes sense, then. =)

Anyone here up for a mechanics discussion for a video game I am working on?
Running into a slight roadblock in the design of stats

7:12 PM
I would enjoy witnessing such a discussion, if that's any consolation.

lol
It isn't that different from a discussion about an RPG.

Start talking and it's likely someone won't be able to avoid commenting.

^An accurate assessment of human behavior.

The idea is you play a necromancer who is trying to save the world from a mistake he caused. I am going to use the classic stats for the necromancer himself but am unsure what to use for the skeletons as they are mindless.

"classic stats"?

7:15 PM
Strength, vitality/constitution, Dexterity, Intelligence and Wisdom

Ahuh.
What manner of mindless are the skeletons?

forgot cha

Obey orders literally until they receive new ones?
Unable to function without an active controller?

Not using CHA. Peoples reactions will change depending on choices made in game
They mainly need an active controller.

Then key some of their stats off those of their controller?

7:18 PM
Right now the stats I have for the skeletons are Str, Dex,Con, Enchantability, and Memory. Str, dex, and con work as usual. Enchantability effects how powerful enchantments put on them can be. And memory effects how many 'special' abilities they can learn.
@BESW The bones are what are important is what my aim is not the strength of the necro. The limiting factor is if the bone is too advanced for the necro to use he can't add it to his skeletons.

Example: A skeleton's Strength and Vitality are equal to the Intelligence of its controller. Its Dexterity is equal to its controller's Wisdom. For effects which require mental stats, use the controller's mental stat reduced by 1 for every skeleton the controller is orchestrating.

@BESW Hmm. Not a bad system. If I bail out on the idea of the bones being the important part I might use this.

You can still use the mental stat bit.

Is the necromancer able to find different bone materials?

Right but it wouldn't really be THEIR stat it would be the necro's stat. Right?
@sillyputty Yes

7:20 PM
Like....I could find some mythral bones and get a kick-ass skeleton?

@sillyputty Oh no nothing like that.
Current idea is.

@sillyputty Relephant.

is there something confusing about this sentence? "when a recipe on a box says 'makes 14', and you cut it in half and it only makes 3 >.<"

@BESW Heh. I saw that story.

@Tritium21 JK Rowling's new baking program?

7:22 PM
@Tritium21 If you aren't familiar with the convention of "When ____"
Then yes

Directions on baking stuff sucks

A better way to phrase, "I hate it when a recipe on a box says, "makes 14", and then I cut it in half and it only makes 3 >.<"

Necro can perform basic spells like fireball and such to participate in battle. His skeletons are the main force though. He can raise skeletons by combining various bones from different races. Each races bones have different effects. For example Orc bones are very durable but have limited enchantability. Elf bones however are highly enchantable but have low durability.

Ahhhhhhh

Skeletons can have "classes" like fighter or mage.

7:23 PM
And he can enchant his skellies to be better at stuff?
So like, enchant skellie with "flaming" property, now my skellie is on fire?

Yea. So they deal fire damage with attacks or are resistant to fire.

Sure.

Also mashups are possible

Sure sure. Tell me about the special abilities skeletons can learn

Orc ribcage, Human skull and elf arms and legs

7:25 PM
cause at the moment, i think the Enchantment stuff is complicated enough for interesting play, but maybe i'm wrong.

...I'm reminded of my lich NPC who, given half the chance, would spend hours explaining the relative merits of the dust left behind by disintegrate when used on various races. ("Dwarves turn into a fine clay for pottery. Elves? Talcum powder.")

@sillyputty a "fighter" could learn a special maneuver that would either do more damage or cause an effect like stun.
"mages" would learn spells with more powerful spells taking up more Memory
Each spell/manuver takes up a certain amount of memory which is why I thought it should be a main stat
For the skeletons at least. Mainly determined by the head bone

Why not key those types of abilities to the types of enchantments put on a particular skellie? Or let skellies of a certain class level up, and learn the abilities automatically? Or hell, do the Pokemon thing. Each skellie has x moves, learns a new one at certain levels, has to replace old ones.

You could make a high memory skeleton by replacing its arms with heads.
@sillyputty ^ then stuff like this wouldn't work though lol

I think trying to balance different Memory stats in addition to the different Enchantment stats and different Physical stats is going to get very, very complicated and difficult.
You already have a lot of moving pieces. Then again, you know your ability to work much better than I do.

7:28 PM
Hmm. Let me think for a moment.

I like the concepts, but all of them playing together may get overwhelming.

Goes to draw a graph
brb

I eagerly await your results! Although I am departing soon.

I think I have some ideas based on what @BESW and @sillyputty said. I will continue with my train of idea until it either crashes or I make something usable out of it.
I have the idea in my head but am not sure how to put it on paper

From that answer: baked/simmered, alcohol stirred into mixture:

15 minutes - 40%
30 minutes - 35%
1 hour - 25%
1.5 hours - 20%
2 hours - 10%
2.5 hours - 5%
As I said, I crock pot the chili for at least 3 hours. :)

7:41 PM
crockpots are below a simmer
thats the point of them
otherwise you would just use a pot on a stove

@Tritium21 Sure, that's why it bubbles on high.

then you are not slow-cooking. you are doing something you can do on a stove in something else. there is no reason then to call out using a slow cooker.
so your the one that uses the high setting

Crock pots on low run ~ 200 degrees, 300 on high. I usually run it on high for an hour and then 4-5 on low.
You'll pardon me if my terminology of calling using a crock pot slow cooking was in error.

@sillyputty Are you in the sheet?

using high on a slow cooker isnt slow cooking, its just...cooking

7:45 PM
@Tritium21 What, you want me to apologize for using the wrong terminology again? I'm not a chef, nor do I claim to be.
And looking back, I never said I slow cooked it. I said that I crock pot it. You inferred that it was slow cooking. I use a crock pot because I feel safer letting it run unattended, where I don't like leaving the stove element on and unattended.

@Aaron Okay, what am I looking at here? =)

@sillyputty Body parts, near as I can tell :)

Something that makes total sense to me but probably no one else.
Ok.
Each race's bones has a score as shown in the top left

Yes. Oh. OH!

You build a skeleton using said bones to get the final result.

7:53 PM
I just add the scores of the appropriate bones in the slots to get a final score on the attribute

Shown in the example at the bottom.
Right.
And the arm slot doesn't HAVE to have an arm. It can be another head.

Question: If I'm putting a head in, why would I ever NOT put an Elf head?

The only necessary parts are ribcage and at least one leg.

I enjoy that thoroughly. Just a ribcage hopping along

@sillyputty If you want a bull headed durable bodyguard type you want as high a con score as possible.
Memory isn't very important in that case.

7:55 PM
Why not? Do bodyguards not need "talents" or whatever you were calling them?

@Aaron If you put two heads, can you get extra memory? Two head one armed durable bodyguard?

@JohnP If you replace an arm yes.

@JohnP Arghhh my inner physicist is screaming UNITS! (Also, FAHRENHEIT?!)

But dex and con would suffer for having the extra heads. so your bodyguard wouldn't be as durable.

Just make it all heads, stick it in a necropolis with millions of other all-elf-head skeletons, add some automated scrying facilities, and start charging cloud storage fees.

7:59 PM
Okay...I know I'm being dense...tell me again EXACTLY what Memory does.
@SevenSidedDie Love it.

@sillyputty Memory is what determines how many points you have to assign to abilities.
So lets say you have a bodyguard. The skill Bodyguard costs one memory
But if you have a "mage" the spell fire 1 costs 1 memory. Fire 2 costs 2 memory ect. The more powerful the spells/abilities the more memory cost
So you can have a few powerful spells or a variety for any situation.

Aaaand the abilities a specific skellie can learn are based on it's class? And so long as the skellie has the appropriate class and Memory points, it can learn any ability in the game?

@sillyputty Still working on that.

Right right.

There will be some limit on the necromancer. So you can't put a bunch of heads together at level 1 and cast the most powerful spell in the game

8:03 PM
Sure, balance it out with progression, I'm just talking in the abstract.

I am still undecided on how I want to do the class system. Do I let players mix and match or limit them to specific classes?

Ohhh limit it to one class per skeleton.
You already have interweaving systems of skeleton body creation, ability learning and enchantment
That's a LOT of customization and I'm already concerned that it's too much. Allowing multi-classing would be a huge mistake in my opinion.

Maybe.

How often do you foresee a skeleton perishing and the necro needing to raise more?

@SevenSidedDie Did you just recreate google?

8:05 PM
I could always custom design classes that have a bit of crossclassing. So make a magus type class that is a cross of fighter mage

@Aaron Where do the parts come from?

@JohnP How did you know I named the first two skeletons Larry and Sergey?

@JohnP Depends on what route I finally decide on for the world. Right now I have 3 options in my mind.
1. Necromancy is normal and accepted.
2. Necromancy is abnormal and viewed as evil. The main character has to hide his necromancy.
3. Necromancy is abnormal and viewed as evil. However most people know the main character is the only one who can save the world so leave him be.

@Aaron Because something you could think about it, is the source of the parts to some extent dictates the talents they can use once grafted. So a fighter arm is of lesser use to a magus construct, and vice versa.

@Aaron This seems a better solution.

8:09 PM
@JohnP Hmm. That isn't a bad idea but would add even MORE depth to an already in depth system. Bones already have various stats, can be enchanted, and you are free to mishmash bodies. This would add even more depth of each bone having a pre assigned class to it.

@Aaron Are you doing pool points? It would work better with a pool points system.
@SevenSidedDie Seemed logical.

@JohnP Sortof. Their will be a tier system for the bones and the necro has to be at a certain point before he can use certain tiers.

@Aaron So...really diving into the dark side, can a beginning necro create a child construct where he couldn't create an adult equivalent? Smother them with numbers approach?

Totally a not-important suggestion, but if you envision the skeletons lasting awhile, allow the player to name them.

@JohnP Eh I think I would rather not. I am thinking the main character isn't completely evil he just thinks the best way to get things done is with dead bodies.
Another idea brought up was the idea that necromancy is frowned on but the character is mainly left alone because unlike other necros he actually helps people
"Oh your child was hurt?" Uses knowledge of the human body gained from necromancy to heal child saving him
Heal without magic*
People who don't want to be indebted to the church come to him for help.

8:17 PM
@Aaron Well, it's not like they're doing anything else...

@JohnP Right. That is his way of thinking. The soul is gone. What is the difference from this and a golem? Golems need super rare stuff. Bodies just need a bit of energy

8:28 PM
Thanks guys. I have to go but you gave me a lot of ideas to chew over.

Evenin'!

'llo!

8:44 PM
@Anaphory Yo

9:21 PM
I'm still too tired from LARP to strike up any resemblance of a meaningful conversation, so I'll continue and wish y'all a Good Night as well.

@Anaphory But...but...larp!
ON a wednesday?
I'm intrigued

Q: Roleplay difference between young and elder vampire?

TwoopahCurrently I am roleplaying a 800~ year old vampire and would like to get better at it. What materials, resources, and tips do you have for it? I want to make the character come off as believable for that age (which is considered among one of the older generations). What are your suggestions? Cu...

unanswerable, i think?

@Tritium21 Unclear what they're asking: If it cleaves to [cn]WoD then it's answerable with a (good) subjective answer

One or the other, but not both. the culture of the masquerade and the requiem are totally different... and mechanically, an ancient vampire in requiem has their memory purged...so they arn't that culturally different than new vampires....

9:42 PM
@Tritium21 Except not in 2ed! Wheeeeeeeeeeee!

further requirement of context

@Tritium21 It's been slightly improved

I can only wildly speculate still

Yep. They want quality speculation, but don't want to do it themselves.
I'll never understand why "there's a hole here where creativity goes" garners the reaction "there must be someone else who can tell me what to put there."
Or, rather, I do — we like to hear others' ideas — but why others' ideas get treated like they're more right than their own ideas.
(And why people come here for ideas where it's explicitly off topic, when there's a whole internet begging to throw ideas at random posts.)

@SevenSidedDie Clearly it's because we're awesome at what we do

9:49 PM
@Pureferret Ironic, since being awesome involves shutting these down. :)
