I'm hoping Discourse gets to the "super easy to install on Heroku/EC2/whatever" stage soon, in spite of Atwood's "if you're not on dedicated hardware you're doing it wrong" attitude.
@Novian in 4e it's a flail by default, two handed +3, 2d4 damage. With the MC feat it gets light blade support, reach and becomes a double weapon with 2d4 on both ends and the stout property for the main hand weapon which means it can be a two-handed weapon.
multiclass = you take a feat that gives you training in one skill from the class you're MCing into and some kind of 1/encounter ability; from then you count as that class for the purposes of qualifying for feats, paragon paths, and epic destinies
stout property = the main hand end counts as being wielded 2-handed when you want it to (for power attack, powers that require you to wield a 2-handed weapon, etc)
going back to multiclassing in 4e; hybrid is where you pick 2 classes when you first make your character and get some of the class features of each; you also pick from both powers lists when you gain powers, though once you have 2 of any given power type (at-will, encounter attack, daily attack, utility) you have to always have at least 1 from each class (so when you pick 2 at-wills at level 1, you have to take one from each class)
because you only get some of the class features, and some of the ones you do get tend to be weaker than the non-hybrid version, it's very easy to make a hybrid character that can't do anything well
especially since you can easily pick classes that need different ability scores and end up with a very MAD character, which is even less viable in 4e than in previous editions
generally speaking, you should only play a hybrid character if it's a build the CharOp guys have designed/vetted; it's just too easy to end up with a shitty character
@Aether $50 to get started isn't my cup of tea. I might do it now, though I'm more interested in playing things I do have or getting into more novel systems.
But for a new player who doesn't want to drop a bunch of cash, something like D&D red box, or a single book system that runs in that 15-20 range is a good idea
Phantom of the opera is always solid. Especially if you can get it without voices for a more BGM feel. Personally i would never obtain such a version because I prefer the voices.
Don't we have a question somewhere along the lines of "How do GM-less games work"? I was pretty sure we did, but I can't find it searching on the gm-less tag or any variation of "gmless".
The Dark City soundtrack, various Cradle of Filth albums, the soundtrack from Alien, the soundtrack from The Batman vs Dracula, some of the God of War soundtracks, Prokofiev's "Scythian Suite"...
@Cat Using this stream as-is would be problematic for lack of ability to DJ the tracks properly, but you can get a lot of good ideas for music sources from listening to it for an afternoon: Horror Movie Scores playlist at songza.
@Aether Well that is an annoying. Region-locking is a feature of our age that I am looking forward to dying a well-earned death.

I don't know a good streaming proxy or location spoofer offhand, but I'm sure there's one that'll work with songza.
@BESW I just so rarely have the chance to sit and chat in semi-realtime. And with that I'll segue into having to go pick up das Kind and bidding good-bye!
I'm constantly looking for new systems to either steal from or at least try out for a one-shot. What systems are currently available that feature GM-less mechanics? Further, do any of these systems provide advice for adopting their mechanics to other systems (or are just easy to adapt because of ...
This doesn't mean always avoiding the entire soundtrack of a recognized work: the Alien soundtrack is not well-known despite the movie being popular, and the Star Wars soundtracks feature a lot of good stuff. Just stay away from the Imperial March.
@Novian If The Great Gatsby and Hamlet have been turned into text adventures (they have) then I'm sure PotO can manage. Though it'd be better if it were based on the original book, of course, than on the Webber.
@BESW No, I saw that one. I thought we had a more basic "WTH are these things? How do they work? What do you mean, no GM??!!" kind of question, but maybe we don't.
