Q: Enemies knocking players unconscious instead of killing them

James J. Regan IVIn D&D 4th Ed., can a monster choose to knock the player he is killing unconscious instead of killing him, thereby not giving him a chance to roll death saving throws to get back on his own and subsequently causing them to only be able to get up through healing of some sort. Obviously not a...

@MadMAxJr what a dream

@CRoss, Indeed...
Part of me is thinking of making a quade diagram for TMNT and submitting that as an answer

Q: What are the options for giving a Battlemind the ability to mark at range?

izakBasically I wanted to be able to mark a target up to 10 squares away so I can then use the Battlemind level 6 utility power Psionic Ambush to teleport next to it. The only potential option I see is to take the Student of the Sword (Fighter multiclass) feat. Would that allow me to throw a dagger...

Heya again

@Pureferret whut?

(the arrow points to linked comment)
why... quade diagram for TMNT?

For various animal mutations
so form turtle it would have hard shell...etc.

...
um
well done :)
I would totally play TMNT gumshoe

It was just a though
I don't think it'd work in gumshoe though...
:p

8:13 PM
nonsense! :)
We could figure out who killed shredder!

8:24 PM
Which one?! :p
brb

braaaaains
Icepick?
@Pureferret yeah, sure.

Firstly, an old one
my warlock

nooo
er
sure, what's up? :)

I said a while ago I liked you answer but I didn't think it was going in the direction I wanted her to go?
I was thinking of going for a scourge build
but with twilight adept MC feat

er?
I need some context mate.

Q: How do I represent a warlock with a background in thievery?

PureferretI'm developing a Dwarven Warlock (Hrafnhildur "Fin" Arnarsdottir) for the next 4E campaign I get the chance to join. She left home to join a gang in a city, and after reading a book they were going to fence she became a warlock. I want to reflect the background of my character with her choice in...

ring any bells?

11:09 PM
oh yeah, that one.
wow, no upvotes.
that's kinda... impressive for my answers.
anyways
what's up?
scourge as ... hexblade?
twilight adept is certainly impressive for the warlock.

as warlock
going for a Con/Int build

um?
why would you want scourge?

Because I like the flavour of the infernal pact?
Plus it gives me THPs

er... oh, you're meaning something completely different than what I was hearing.
Always ignore the gorram suggested builds.
I thought you meant scourge as... y'know, the weapon.

Oh
No
lol

11:12 PM
mm... infernal locks are not exactly the sneaky type.

All I remember is that the PhB gives two 'builds'
Sorry

adds an interesting dissonance to your character.

I like that word
scribbles it down for use later

yes sorry
I could be clearer on noting that word down but it'd be off topic
You said "Your ultimate goal if you don't take shade is the rogue utility 10: shadow stride. It has an incredible synergy with warlock and is almost even worth giving up teleport at-will for."
Emphasis mine

11:14 PM
yep

What's 'shade' or do you mean shade as in shadows?

Shade, the race, does exactly what you want to do.
you just , y'know, call yourself a dorf.

Lol

no, really.

Ok, no I'll be getting that Rogue utility power

11:16 PM
Shades get a hide in plain sight standard action that is incredibly flavourful and free stealth training.
it accopmlishes everything you want it to, mechanically.

I believe you but I'm happy with dwarf....where are the Shade rules?

um, Heroes of shadow.

Ahh ok, Essentials?

yep
and people become shades through pacts with shadow
sorry, is sub-optimal recommendation, so I shouldn't be recommending it.

No it's fine

11:21 PM
heh, made a fun little character "seth" that accidentally became a shade warlock.
fun stuff. Starting equipment: a bottle of wine, some fancy clothes

I don't mind 'sub-optimal'

and a hangover.

cool :)

@BrianBallsunStanton "accidentally"

yep. One should not try to chat up pretty little devils when drunk.

11:22 PM
lol

@BrianBallsunStanton especially when they're litterally devils

ayep.
I imagine his first adventure will be a constant series of "owww, my headache" and "Woah. I can... duude, look what I can do!"

@BrianBallsunStanton :-)

and with the way implements work...
it's not actually critical starting with any, or even leather armor
um
that link...
are you sure that link goes to where you want it to go?

11:30 PM
@BrianBallsunStanton no is the short answer
too many things going on at once :-)

fair 'nuff
::sigh::

Trying again, is anyone familiar with Burning Empires or Burning Wheel

::scream::
no

@BrianBallsunStanton you alright there?

11:32 PM
bad memories.

I thought it would be like MG but better

I had a really horrible burning wheel game.

got into the rules and it was....urk

got a question about it somewhere
Exactly!

Q: How do I teach people the combat system from Burning Wheel?

Brian Ballsun-StantonThis last week I ran a demo scenario (The Sword) for burning wheel and failed horribly, not least because no-one could understand the combat mechanics. Can someone provide a script which can demonstrate to players how to engage and enjoy a burning wheel melee? The example in the end of the books...

oh gods, that comment thread needs pruning

someone suggested it because I was talking about running a ... empire building game
for lack of a better description
@BrianBallsunStanton on the question? on it

11:33 PM
um, Reign :)

@BrianBallsunStanton yeah, that was more what I was thinking
perhaps Pathfinder + Reign

I've used reign empire rules and they work quite well

straight pathfinder to level five or so

some... fiddly guesstimates are needed for confronting nature, but ...
oh, also look for pathfinder kingmaker path. Apparently it's all about that.
yeah, CBFed with fancy question names.

@BrianBallsunStanton yeah, looked into that
on my wishlist
@BrianBallsunStanton actually the comments on the question look pretty useful
perhaps we should edit the wheat into the answers before burning the chaff

11:39 PM
mmm

11:54 PM
@BrianBallsunStanton done, just edited Seven's comment into his question
