@LarryHarson it's not ready yet.

And I don't think you'll like the rudeness policy (basically, rudeness is good, and encouraged) .

anyway,

tpproposal.wordpress.com is the blog where dilaton writes the updates about the site.

twistor59 has also proposed a policy that rudeness is complsoury : )

Alright, so let me list properly now.

@Crake the physics one is the old and unused chat for phys.se, the hbar is the current chat for phys.se. This is in relation to tpproposal.wordpress.com

@UV-D Yes.

Hi @[USERNAME], I wonder if you may be interested in a new "Physics Overflow" site with the scope of graduate level and behind. This is different from Theoretical Physics Stack Exchange in 2 different aspects:

Anonymous
1. The scope is not just theoretical physics, but also experimental and phenomenological.

Anonymous
2. Our Scope is not strictly research-level, but graduate - level and beyond.

That essentially means mainly BSM physics (mainly strings), Condensed Matter, string net, LQG and friends.

In order to be updated about the site, visit tpproposal.wordpress.com (Schrodinger's cat strikes back!) and motls.blogspot.in/2013/08/… (on TRF, allowed by Lubos)

We plan to set this up outside the Stack Exchange network, due to reasons discussed in this blog post by Dilaton.

@DImension10AbhimanyuPS, I've read the blog post you linked. Is there anything being done atm, or is it just an idea?

@Crake still planning.

Looks like Q2A is the best optwion for the site hosting.

@StackExchange i think i need to see the rss feeds, actually.

From what I understand, you don't want to replace Physics.SE (or even PF), you want a place to discuss higher physics, correct?

@Crake yes.

From sifting again through the comment thread in the TRF discussion about the new site, the question of the physics level the future site should have seems not yet completely clarified apart from the consensus that popular science questions and high-school questions are not appropriate. So let’s do another poll: Another point worth discussing could … Continue reading →

As this projects tries to some kind of restart the  (generalized) theoretical physics proposal outside the Stack Exchange network, conversely to Astronomy which has just made it to private beta again (congratulations!), we have no well-defined place to ask example questions. May idea of a work around is to do it here in the comments … Continue reading →

Here I want for those interested to give an overview about how we plan to proceed from a technical point of view to set up the new physics Q&A site. To have a base of  already  existing questions to start with, we plan to take the data dump of the former Theoretical Physics SE site … Continue reading →

Disclaimer: This post is intended to further explain why a new physics site as a home for an academic community interested in doing physics at an advanced level is needed, which moderation practices (that may have there legitimacy elsewhere) should be avoided, and discuss a bit how the future community might want to govern the … Continue reading →

The two most indispensable things that should work with the Q&A software the new physics site will use are that LaTex / Mathjax can be implemented and that the Theoretical Physics Stack Exchange data dump can be completely imported. Both things seem to be (with more or less effort)  technically feasible for a number of … Continue reading →

Eduardo and Dimension10 (and others such as Ron, etc ), If you think there are important things/topics that should be discussed and/or clarified in the context of the new site, you are welcome to write blog articles here too if you feel like it... ;-) ... still thinking that I am not necessarily the best writer and therefore to not have to be the only one ... I don't think it is possible to "protect" a post in any question-answer site hosting. I agree with your "4" addition, although I'd change "explicit permission" to "explicit permission or acknowledgement that such an addition is correct".

In fact rudeness should be compulsory, you bunch of titty fucking smeg licking arse wranglers! LOL!

posted on October 07, 2013 by Ψε = (Dimension10)

While I agree that *rudeness* is certainly necessary, I don't think vulgarities are. By vulgarities, I mean the sort of words listed in Group IA, IB, IC, and II of http://vulgarities.wikia.com , a wikia intended for forbidding words on websites, etc., without actually using them .

I think that "Mathematics (useful to physicists)" is not a happy term. It would be better to have a section about "Mathematical physics" itself, a subject whose importance is growing more and more on its own.

A suggestion: maybe it would be a good idea to encourage the future members to use their academic e-mails and let their University affiliations explicitly available. But you see, just "encourage" them, and not transforming it in a rule. I think that this would help to valorize the expert opinion and the credibility of the information. A downside is that it this can be too stringent fo

Hi guys, I like what you're doing and I hope it works. I'd very much like it if we could make a research-level physics Q & A site viable. I voted on everything; here are a few points I feel strongly about on this list: -Up/down votes: it goes without saying that there is no point in even making a site without this feature. - Accept answer: I think this feature should *not* be o

I see what you mean, but I actively disagree with this nonetheless. One of the exciting things about Stack Exchange for me was that it tapped into a community of experts (and idiots) from both inside and outside academia. Some of the best answerers on Stack Exchange had/have no information about university affiliation, or indeed have none; take Ron Maimon and Qmechanic for example. Obviously pe

Thanks for coming here and your nice wise thoughts Mark, I like what you say :-) My hope is too, that the new site will become some kind of a refuge, where all parts of by the real world physics community accepted mainstream physics can be discussed reasonably, which is unfortunately since quite some time no longer the case in most physics blogs and below too popular news articles ...

Hi Sam, I understand what you mean ... However, from my observations on different physics blogs, Physics SE, and the former Theoretical Physics SE, I am not sure how strongly the quality a physics site can have depends on a real name + affiliateon rule. I have seen some real jerks badly trolling using their real names (I guess), and there are people who are very knowledgeable and do many qua
