its not fixing anything :) I have not problem actually getting the app to run after an uninstall. as I tried to explain - the issue is that I am worried that the failure to install over the currot production version would actually happen to my users.
tried to install kies and still no connection to the phone.. maybe a restart to my pc would help.. really going to sleep now... thanks for now.
Dec 25, 2014 21:28
I will leave this chat open if you have any additional ideas for me.
Dec 25, 2014 21:27
well. its almost midnight here... going to sleep - thanks for your help - I will try the kies software tomorrow.
Dec 25, 2014 21:19
not using an emulator. its a phonegap app. i do my testing on either a web browser or on actual devices.
Dec 25, 2014 21:14
also even so there is an issue for me with this in that it does not allow me to test how my new version handles data of the previous version (mainly stuff in localStorage)
Dec 25, 2014 21:13
hmm... If only I could find a place that says this is the case...
Dec 25, 2014 21:11
any idea what windows driver I should use to be able to connect via adb? or how do I do adb over wifi?
Dec 25, 2014 21:10
:(
Dec 25, 2014 21:10
hmm... I know I can do this. but this is an app that has several thousends of users...
I don't want to upload it to play and discover that all my users need to un install.
Dec 25, 2014 21:05
i cant get my computer to recognize the phone... adb devices does not show anything
Dec 25, 2014 21:01
or I am not getting them correctly...
Dec 25, 2014 21:01
yep. this it what it give...
Dec 25, 2014 20:49
here is what I see in the log:
--------- beginning of /dev/log/main

Dec 25, 2014 20:48
will have the log in a moment or two.
Dec 25, 2014 20:48
I can't seem to see anything in this log... am I supposed to run logcat >log.txt before or after the install ?
Dec 25, 2014 20:48
Might also be helpful that I say that the device is not rooted AFAIK.
Dec 25, 2014 20:48
after running logcat >log.txt - examining the log file I found the following line in it: java.lang.SecurityException: Neither user 10210 nor current process has android.permission.INSTALL_PACKAGES."
Dec 25, 2014 20:48
so i tried pm install -r package.apk and it just gave something like 60 lines saying try again in 1second (missing space in original message) then it said twice failed to connect to dumpstate service and finally killed.
Dec 25, 2014 20:48
o.k. get a terminal installed and i see pm is "package manager". not to find where did it download the apk to.
Dec 25, 2014 20:48
any recommended terminal? and what is pm?
Dec 25, 2014 20:48
hmmm... so far I have installed the latest sdk and adb as part of it but it does not seem to recognize the phone... (adb devices shows an empty list).
Dec 25, 2014 20:48
THanks, I will try this and see what happens.

Feb 22, 2011 14:04

Feb 22, 2011 13:59
RPG.SE ?
Feb 22, 2011 13:59
yes, maybe the sign should also say "all traffic is monitored :)"
Feb 22, 2011 13:57
is it total reputation accress all stackexchange sites ?
Feb 22, 2011 13:57
why does it say 969 below my name at the left and 5292 below yours ?
Feb 22, 2011 13:56
to summ it up. you are better of not letting a hacker into your network. but if you do, then it takes a better hacker to hack a known to everyone password protected network then the one needed to hack a password less network.
Feb 22, 2011 13:56
this is not the case here, its not a city, it a village that has guests visiting and we want them to have free internet access...
Feb 22, 2011 13:53
I see your point. a personal approach might push away a potential hacker. but again, since I can not validate who will be the caller and anyone asking for the password will get it. we end up still with the same worst case.
Feb 22, 2011 13:51
but the worst-case is then not different when you have no password or have a known-to-everyone password. and in the less worst case a less skilled hacker will find the known-to-everyone password protected network a bit harder to hack.
Feb 22, 2011 13:48
what if its a less skilled hacker? will there then be a difference in the chance of him sniffing a network that has a password (that he knows) then one that has no such password
Feb 22, 2011 13:46
o.k. I accept that BUT...
Feb 22, 2011 13:45
hmmm.... and if everyone is welcome to the network? there is no way to secure the users from one another ?
Feb 22, 2011 13:44
and when you say to sniff the traffic you mean to actually see it unencripted ?
Feb 22, 2011 13:42
o.k, can you explain why ?
Feb 22, 2011 13:42
but wanted to ask here so I won't be missleading him
Feb 22, 2011 13:41
even if the password was written on such a sign
Feb 22, 2011 13:41
and I was under the impression that it would be better for him and the people using his free network if it had a password
Feb 22, 2011 13:41
someone else where I live decided to provide such a free network around his house
Feb 22, 2011 13:40
maybe a bit background
Feb 22, 2011 13:40
so it should be more secure to use a password even if everyone know it - is it not so ?
