ah, there you go
Sep 10, 2013 06:28
they probably have an anti-vote-spamming algorithm
Sep 10, 2013 06:28
I assume stackexchange would discount your votes if you just upvoted everything answer ever
Sep 10, 2013 06:25
yeah that's kind of a lot
Sep 10, 2013 06:25
haha
Sep 10, 2013 06:24
at least the counts
Sep 10, 2013 06:23
huhp
Sep 10, 2013 06:23
are vote counts public?
Sep 10, 2013 06:23
I guess you must be a moderator?
Sep 10, 2013 06:22
good evening
Sep 10, 2013 05:54
apparently we're in the 20k signed-up user range now?
Sep 10, 2013 05:53
I racked up a bunch of rep by being early and asking and answering basic questions
Sep 10, 2013 05:53
@EsaPaulasto I haven't been very active for a long time
Sep 9, 2013 02:50
thanks
Sep 9, 2013 01:37
@rfusca hey did you ever build that star tracking mount you were thinking about?
Sep 9, 2013 01:37
Sep 9, 2013 01:36
Boom, finally got a gold badge
Jun 17, 2013 22:55
thx
Jun 17, 2013 22:51
wasn't there someone on photo.SE who maintains a website with data on a bunch of lenses/bodies?
Dec 24, 2012 21:42
yeah it sounds like kappa-sigma clipping is removing outlier values
Dec 24, 2012 21:41
hmm
Dec 24, 2012 07:58
or median instead of mean
Dec 24, 2012 07:58
@jrista This makes it sound like they're using a min() or something instead of averaging or summing
Dec 24, 2012 07:41
the noise in the original one doesn't bother me that much
Dec 24, 2012 07:41
also I think I personally don't like the way NR'd photographs look
Dec 24, 2012 07:38
e.g. you can see the star at the center
Dec 24, 2012 07:38
a little more detail
Dec 24, 2012 07:38
the original looks better, imo
Dec 24, 2012 06:18
you shouldn't be doing noise reduction before you stack, imo
Dec 24, 2012 06:18
yes but you aren't going to get the same noise in each photo
Dec 24, 2012 06:17
even if in each photo, the signal is under the noise floor
Dec 24, 2012 06:17
same number of photons should give the same result
Dec 24, 2012 06:16
and how does it make a big difference if you're counting for 1 minute 120 times and summing, or counting for 120 minutes
Dec 24, 2012 06:15
I bet you get more read noise with 120 shots versus 1, but fundamentally you're just counting the number of photons that hit buckets
Dec 24, 2012 06:15
I dunno if I believe it's that big of a difference
Dec 24, 2012 06:13
I feel like that means he took two images and stitched them side-by-side, not stacked
Dec 24, 2012 06:13
"Two frame mosaic for the luminance"
Dec 24, 2012 06:12
if you're already taking hundreds-of-minute shots, why bother stacking 2?
Dec 24, 2012 06:12
I believe that
Dec 24, 2012 06:11
also, longer lens.
Dec 24, 2012 06:10
I really should go ahead and make a tracker at some point
Dec 24, 2012 06:07
so you have to pretend like the lens is longer
Dec 24, 2012 06:06
also I assume you're only using a crop anyway
Dec 24, 2012 06:06
yeah
Dec 24, 2012 06:06
hm.
Dec 24, 2012 06:06
before you should notice star trails?
Dec 24, 2012 06:03
imgur likes to scale down these images
Dec 24, 2012 06:02
you have a full-res version somewhere?
Dec 24, 2012 06:02
maybe
Dec 24, 2012 06:02
I feel like you could bump up the exposure time
