I like this comment in the tool I'm trying to maintain: (* RJ: THERE CAN BE BUGS WITH THE LVAL_MAP INTERFACE -- better still PROVE this interface correct. PROVE ???!!! HA HA.*)
Sep 22, 2011 16:07
@Brant your thoughts are quite innocent, you know
Sep 22, 2011 15:54
@Chad We had a classroom full of IBM Model M at the school I finished 7 years ago.
Sep 22, 2011 08:32
@Pierre303, yes, the name originates from latin "paulus", meaning "small". Being differently mangled while drifting to East and West, it resulted in Paul and Pavel (pronounced like "puvvil") respectively.
Sep 21, 2011 15:09
But if you goal is just an unambitious "get employed", then, possibly, mastering one language is a good way to go.
Sep 21, 2011 15:08
@Jinjavajin As far as I know, it depends on your goals. Being a "Jack of all trades" is crucial for a really top-tier professional.
Sep 15, 2011 08:28
@ThorbjørnRavnAndersen I didn't see any questions in chat after Anna had changed settings.
Sep 14, 2011 15:31
@StackExchange Hello, bot? Can you talk?
Sep 14, 2011 14:35
@AnnaLear that we ignore them
Sep 13, 2011 21:10
@Rachel I won't even try anything like this until a mind-machine interface is invented. It all seems to crippled to use.
Sep 2, 2011 09:17
So, what is going to be left here, at Programmers? "Trash" questions about the best programming jokes? "Don't-know-what-to-do-with-my-life" questions?
Sep 2, 2011 09:17
Project management.SE? Wait, what?
Sep 1, 2011 05:55
@temptar Well, I was once fired from a delivery boy position. That shattered the belief that I can do anything except programming %)
Aug 31, 2011 08:02
Hey, hands off of funny comments! I don't want my Pundit badge reclaimed!
Aug 30, 2011 16:29
O_o no it's not!
Aug 30, 2011 14:57
Maybe the problem is not in the coding?
Aug 30, 2011 14:57
@Incognito It's written virtually everywhere in the net near my name that I write code for living. However, I haven't encountered anything close to what you're describing...
Aug 30, 2011 14:49
@Incognito ignore them?
Aug 30, 2011 14:34
@Jarrod you see, we are indeed capped at 73k/yr, but Jon Skeet (with his 340k in less than 3 years) is obviously not :-(
Aug 30, 2011 09:40
@ThorbjørnRavnAndersen to get more rep I should... answer more questions? Hm, never thought about that...
Aug 30, 2011 09:10
/me has 'round seven milliskeets...
Aug 29, 2011 17:57
@DesolatePlanet which is strange, because IRL the Managers are usually those who do nothing :D
Aug 29, 2011 17:56
Does it matter? :-)
Aug 29, 2011 17:56
@AnnaLear, an applicant.
Aug 29, 2011 16:04
just considering an interesting job offer and where I would get on accepting it...
Aug 29, 2011 16:01
hm ok
Aug 29, 2011 15:56
Well, in some countries you can't (legally) terminate an employment due to lack of performance. Moreover, giving this guy a chance, while having several more applicants with the same amount of experience--but in development--wouldn't be the best solution, would it?
Aug 29, 2011 15:43
Assume you have a guy applying for a position in your company as a developer. According to his CV, he has spent the latest several years as a "process manager". Would you turn him down?
Aug 29, 2011 15:42
So, I'll just ask here instead.
Aug 29, 2011 15:40
Damn, was just going to ask another one
Aug 26, 2011 14:57
So, congrtulations :-)
Aug 26, 2011 14:57
@Jarrod, btw, cancelling downvote was how I got my 10k...
Aug 25, 2011 13:41
With 10001 rep you're just one downvote away from the unprivileged oblivion..
Aug 24, 2011 17:13
/me makes a discovery of the day: tea contains caffeine! Didn't know that before reading today's chat.
Aug 24, 2011 17:10
@Michael I like your recursive method of quitting chewing gum. :-)
Aug 24, 2011 12:14
What gum should I chew if I want to quit chewing gum?
Aug 23, 2011 20:30
The pot looks like it comes from an ancient 3D computer game that was short on the number of polygons the engine was capable to display...
Aug 23, 2011 11:36
Me too! But infrequently.
Jul 25, 2011 15:24
@Lance If I remember correctly, I had no problems using firefox 5 to get here at home.
Jul 25, 2011 12:57

A: What is a good web application that I can run testing tools against?

Pavel ShvedYou should create your own small web application. Remember that all software should have tests? Even if you develop tests, they're no exception. This small web-application you'll write will be a test for the tests you are going to create.

Jul 21, 2011 07:33
@Lwoodyiii Guys, what does Mr. Woody want from me here? I don't seem to understand...
Jul 16, 2011 16:29
T__T
Jul 7, 2011 19:57
There were plugins to emulate vim key bindings in Firefox... but for Emacs, I guess, a more appropriate solution would be an emulation of Firefox via its lisp config scripts.
Jul 7, 2011 19:56
@HedgeMage ok, thanks!
Jul 7, 2011 19:36
"Firefox, until recently, had one hell of a creative lead (incidentally the son of Jef Raskin), and this shows in its UX." — could anyone, please, explain in more simple English the Konrad's opinion about Firefox design?

A: Why don't modern software developers follow the advice of Alan Cooper and Jef Raskin?

Konrad Rudolph Why does not software developers follow the recommendations on [user interface design]? The simple answer is that a software engineer is not a usability design expert. UX design is hard and has to be learned. It is also relatively recent, despite some early pioneers such as Jef Raskin. I’m ...

Jul 7, 2011 19:35
There is an answer with a portion I do not understand.
Jul 5, 2011 21:51
We could migrate these questions there :-)
