@Job_September_2020 As a software engineer in the US, this has never been my experience. It is normal to be able to see the time slots that are available or busy, but not the details of what is in those slots. If someone really needs to meet with someone and there is no available slot, they'll just schedule it for the next best time and email them explaining the urgency.

Looks like SE is serious about revisiting site design now that they've made styling easier.
Jul 28, 2022 20:45
Philosophy is getting a site design! They're only a couple years older than Space Exploration and have a similar number of questions. philosophy.meta.stackexchange.com/questions/5332/…

@kimholder Oh, I meant in mod actions, not site activity. Site activity has been low-to-normal.
Jun 8, 2022 17:12
@kimholder We have been particularly flooded lately too.
Mar 30, 2022 16:44
@RoryAlsop I usually spend maybe an hour or two a work day, split up between the times during the day that I am available.
May 24, 2021 12:10
@uhoh Hm, unfortunately it seems that discussion has been deleted and was not retained in chat. I wish I could remember what question it was on, because I should still be able to see the comments if I knew where to look.
May 23, 2021 18:20
@uhoh That's essentially what I said in my comment. It doesn't put a vote on the question just acts on it in the queue
May 13, 2021 13:50
ok, that's what I figured
May 13, 2021 13:50
I think so. It's private to you, but if you want to share, I don't think there's any policy against that.
May 13, 2021 13:48
@ymb1 Did they basically just say they weren't going to address it?
May 12, 2021 19:28
@ymb1 Ok, thanks :)
May 12, 2021 19:28
The next paragraph begins:
> But, the Stack Overflow ToS require everything to be licenced under CC-BY-SA license.
May 12, 2021 19:28
That was only for that paragraph
May 12, 2021 19:27
That said, SE doesn't enforce this requirement on their users. I'm just letting you know that copyrighted images are not ok to share without permission.
May 12, 2021 19:26

A: Are we allowed according to the ToS to exempt a part of our post from the CC license?

TschallackaTalking from an European perspective, there is no fair use, and citation right is very limited, it needs to be a small part of the whole and properly attributed to source and author, and stand apart from the rest of the content as a citation(indentation, blockquote, other background, etc..) But,...

May 12, 2021 19:26
> Images that don't have a CC-BY-SA compatible license, you cannot use them. End of story really.
May 12, 2021 19:23
but that doesn't extend to images
May 12, 2021 19:23
If you clearly indicate it as a quote and provide citation, it is covered under the right to quotation
May 12, 2021 19:21
yes, and everything you upload is considered a user contribution
May 12, 2021 19:20
hi
Apr 1, 2021 19:30
@kimholder Thanks!
Apr 1, 2021 19:25
@kimholder Some off-the-shelf stuff, some custom tools
Apr 1, 2021 19:19
I'm pretty excited about it :)

Astronomy nomination period for a new mod only has four days left, and there's still no nominees. If anyone's interested in running over there, please sign up while you can!

In the current system, that would be "needs more focus" or "opinion based"
Jan 22, 2021 15:35
@OrganicMarble I think we usually use too broad or opinion-based, depending on which fits better.
Jan 22, 2021 14:53
@OrganicMarble Yeah, I was about to comment on your meta post right before you deleted it, agreeing that some of these seem to cross a line. Our goal in the past has been to limit list-based questions to ones that were theoretically finite, not opinion-based, and made sense to answer in the limited space available in a SE answer. Also we generally discourage shopping lists.

I do think uhoh is right though that a big reason they are a major target is that they create so much content for this site. uhoh has created about half the tags on the site, about half the bounties on the site, has the highest number of posts created on the site. Even if a low proportion of their work is problematic, it's going to be very visible.
Nov 10, 2020 17:20
@RoryAlsop Right, but the thing is those downvotes are offset by a lot of upvotes, precisely because of the flashiness. If you notice an ongoing pattern, it's a lot better to bring it to attention then to let it turn the site un-fun for you
Nov 10, 2020 17:18
90% of clashes here come down to people not flagging enough, IMO

How many voted?

@gerrit Thanks for helping out when you could :)

Jun 18, 2021 17:01
@uhoh Yeah, you definitely have above average semantic skills, which is a good thing! Most people who become frequent editors do.
Jun 18, 2021 17:00
@uhoh If it really only takes you one to two minutes on average to process what needs to be changed and make the appropriate updates, then you probably have above average semantic skills and/or are being selective with which posts you choose to edit. There are certainly some non-trivial changes that can be made in that kind of time, but often editing appropriately can take longer than that, and as Jean-Marie described below, trivial edits are discouraged.
Jun 18, 2021 17:00
@uhoh I would say on average it usually takes about 5 minutes to process what needs to be edited and make a good edit, but often it's hard to tell without expending some of that processing time whether an edit is going to be close to that average time or longer. If you're short on time, you have to make a quick decision, and if you don't know whether you might get side-tracked for 30 minutes, it's better to avoid it.
Jun 18, 2021 17:00
@uhoh That is an incredibly unfair assumption. Down/close voting takes a second, editing can take up to 30 minutes. There's a big difference between "can spare an extra second after reading" and "can spare half an hour after reading". Someone might enjoy editing, but not be able to do it for much of the day.
Jun 18, 2021 17:00
@uhoh "I guess people enjoy down voting and closing more than they do contributing to the site by helping folks improve their posts" - That's speculative, making assumptions about people's intentions. There's a lot simpler explanation which is that down and close votes require a lot less time and effort than editing.

@DavidHammen Directly from the NASA webpage that hosts the image: "Please note that these images are copyright protected. Reproduction without permission of the copyright holder is prohibited."
May 12, 2021 20:07
@DavidHammen It specifically says on the NASA website that they may not be reproduced without permission.
May 12, 2021 20:07
Here's a brief write-up I did on it: space.meta.stackexchange.com/a/1530/58. As far as preventing StackExchange from uploading images, just don't use their image tool to add the image. Instead do ![image description](image link). Don't forget to include explicit attribution.
May 12, 2021 20:07
They weren't merely embedded though, they were invalidly entered into imgur under the Creative Commons license. Also, embedding and displaying images elsewhere is a bit of grey area. Usually, if asked not to display an image, even if it is displayed via an embedded link, we will remove it.
May 12, 2021 20:07
Unfortunately, I had to remove the images, because they are copyrighted and may not be reproduced without permission. I left links to them, however.
