@ChrisK Sure, you are welcome. And in Trumpian times let's remember: Public Money? Public Code! publiccode.eu/en :)

@ChrisK You will probably have looked at the SciML framework, so here is an older, but good, introduction to Julia’s design principles for a deeper understanding: dl.acm.org/doi/pdf/10.1145/3276490
gwr

@ChrisK As Jakob Nissen puts it “Julia might be ‘The best expressiveness / performance tradeoff you have ever seen.’” With some packages, e.g., Chain.jl, you can make it feel very close to WL. While multiple dispatch is nothing new for this community, it’s type-based implementation needs careful scrutiny.

Just learnt that I must be a "hipster" using Julia instead of Python or R … Must be Lisp-ishness, meta programming, 1-indexing, multiple dispatch, a great package manager, and simply need for speed. :)

Just noted that TimelinePlot @ DateInterval[{}] gives the same plot as TimelinePlot @ DateInterval[{ InfinitePast, InfiniteFuture} ] ... that looks wrong to me: The empty set is contained in every set, but does contain no element itself?

@RonaldMonson Sadly, you are squarely voicing my thoughts regarding a possible obituary given Mr.Wizard's appearance as an "energetic retiree". There are a couple of precursors in this regard: David B. Wagner, Dr. belisarius, ...
While it reminds us all of our mortality, it might also remind us to set up something like a legacy notice if the unavoidable event happens. It would be nice to know for sure and some form of remembrance in a community like ours might be a thing to consider?

@Szabolcs I posted this on Community: community.wolfram.com/groups/-/m/t/2708220

@Szabolcs Ok, I believe Needs[ "PublisherID`PacletName`Subpackage`" -> None ] is your friend and then have the main package simply load all sub packages that way and introducing all public symbols with aliases giving full-name references.
That way, users have control to either use Needs["context`"] or Needs["context`" -> "alias`"] with a paclet.
gwr
Nov 21, 2022 18:01
Using ContextAliases within a package doesn't look right also as it is global, does it?
gwr
Nov 21, 2022 17:59
No, they still do not support the current format, but I do not care for that support as it will work when you tweak it.
I believe my issue is more general and does not pertain to Eclipse itself, i.e., nowadays we are nudged into using PublisherID`PackageName` as a context (see the CreatePaclet example I gave). But have multiple files with different contexts dependent upon a common core is harder to set up (can't get the typical setup with Needs to work with PacletObject[] definitions...)
gwr
Nov 19, 2022 16:57
Is it just me or is the Paclet documentation a bit lagging? I found Rick Hennigan's PacletCICD-Example-Sample, which gives a "typical" Paclet structure:
https://github.com/WolframResearch/PacletCICD-Examples-Sample/tree/703cd44d0489c74dcb537cf9b0c8ccc4482cee7a

Yet, testing with Eclipse I found that currently all *.wl files in the Kernel directory will be loaded and the <<PublisherID`PacletName`File` expressions in his main SamplePaclet.wl seem superfluous right now. Also using CreatePaclet["PublisherID/PacletName"] will give a PacletInfo.wl file with a "Context" -> ... declaration that dev

Just played with https://www.wolframcloud.com/env/cloud-content/FirstFiveMinutes.nb#sidebar=none did anybody notice that it is broken?

Everything works until natural language input is used to find "capitals in europe" giving us a list of 51 city entities. Then they do GeoListPlot[ % ] ... and it breaks!

I checked and the 49th entry in that list is the culprit: Kyiv, Ukraine cannot be plotted using GeoGraphics or GeoListPlot ... :-\

Is there a way to control colors in a MultiPanel Plot like BarChart? What am I missing? E.g.,

BarChart[ {{110, 220, 150, 330}, {200, 100, 250, 430}, {100, 200, 100,200}, {300, 290, 250, 200}},
ChartLayout -> "Row",
ChartStyle -> Blue
]

Will still be yellow, quite different from ChartLayout -> "Grouped", which accepts the color given.

@ChrisK Indeed, it looks interesting (see also: researchgate.net/publication/…). I have dropped one of the authors, Ahmet Yantir, a note via email inquiring about the TimeScale package and I will keep you informed.

Apr 4, 2022 14:25
Does anyone know: What ever came from this article (researchgate.net/publication/…) or this one(arxiv.org/abs/0911.3187)? There seems to have been a TimeScale package at one time?

.. had I known that WL has been invented as a multipathway computational system my journey towards mastery of the language would certainly have been a lot easier. As a programmer you need to keep track of your observational pathway as well to understand the states of the system. :D

IT can make complicate things much more simple, but alas sometimes IT creates overhead where things in fact are rather simple. From reading about the “hum and haw” SE makes about changing this site’s logo to fit with its scope and its users’ preferences, I get the impression we have a case of the latter here. Too bad. :(

@Kuba Thanks, and completely fine with me. Nevertheless, these minor irritations cost "time" as I really could not understand the error I was getting at all. Documentation could hopefully be updated...

To me IconData is a constructor without any options (even though the constructed Graphics object has options...)
gwr
Jan 15, 2019 14:13
@Kuba Why should Options @ IconData not give {} ?
gwr
Jan 15, 2019 14:12
It clearly at least is a case of "bad documentation"...
gwr
Jan 15, 2019 14:11
... but then Options[IconData] is wrong (=bug)! Given a result Options[expr] should not make me turn to documentation as well...
gwr
Jan 15, 2019 14:10
@Kuba I had though that "documentation error" is a bug as is "missing implementation". Is "dramatic crash" really a prerequisite for bugs?
gwr
Jan 15, 2019 14:10
@Kuba I added the bugs tag and case-reference. Remove the tag if you disagree with my verdict, but Options[expr] is not looking for hidden information and IconData is present since 2014 - time enough to eighter update documentation or correct Options[IconData] result.
gwr
Jan 15, 2019 14:10
@Kuba The conscientious risk-taker would at least expect SetOptions[ IconData, Background -> Green] to work. But heck, it does not!
gwr
Jan 15, 2019 14:10
@Kuba So why then is Options giving me a different answer? Also: I am a WolframLanguage Risk-taking Individual - short: WRI! ;-)
