If the framework you are using doesnt have support for texture atlas', you will need to add it, or simply not use them. Bundling textures together, and breaking them apart at run time is an unnecessary time sink that you should avoid
A texture atlas is used to limit the number of textures being transferred into VRAM. It allows you to limit that to fewer textures, and your objects then simply sample a singular texture with appropriately modified UV coordinates
Trying to group together speakers, apples, and the various states of matter into a single group is pretty tough, and by the time you can, it's bound to be so generic that the name isn't descriptive at all
