@Tester101 I didn't realize it's been that long! I took a new job in a new state and pretty much ran out of time for anything. Glad to see PUT is still going strong!

Basically the last ramp has lasted about 4 years, might last a couple more, but the PT ply is breaking down from the rain and heavy motorized wheel chair. I'm cheap or I'd start looking at aluminum. My hope is the tar paper will make a nice membrane between the wood and the rubber (like a roof), but I've never tried it before.

I need to rebuild a ramp in a hurry - looking for opinions. I'm looking at PT 2x6 for the runners, PT ply on top, tar paper on top of that, and a rubber grippy mat thing designed for traction on ramps.

I'm glad to see things are getting back on track now that I'm out of the way :)

Mar 29, 2012 20:25
@auujay Congrats! How did that tile job come out?
Mar 29, 2012 20:24
@Tester101 I made it through all the holidays, I was closing in on 90 or so and I missed it by a couple hours while I was on travel. sad trombone
Mar 29, 2012 20:14
@Aaron send an email to blog.diy.se at gmail and we'll get you set up
Mar 29, 2012 19:56
Hmmm....I'll have to keep an eye on that. Given the fact my house is practically a laundromat for assorted vagabonds, I could easily see a few overloaded loads sneaking in there.

So the air vent on the inside of my almost two year old gas dryer is scorched. What's up with that?

@Mario That is a good place to start. Usually the detailed how-to type answers are the ones that make me think: "This would be a good blog entry".
Mar 29, 2012 19:12
@BMitch :For the blog entry you're eager to write :)
Mar 29, 2012 19:11
@Tester101 Ahh..my cousin Sam. Might not be work safe :)
Mar 29, 2012 19:10
@BMitch Hey you could include a bit of screw research too to fill out the entry.
Mar 29, 2012 19:07
So we've been talking about repurposing some of the best questions as blog entries - what could we do to make those interesting?

:For the location known as "The Money Pit", see Oak Island. The Money Pit is a 1986 comedy film. I think he's halfway to a fashion trend though...what about: The laptop belt buckle?
Mar 29, 2012 13:57
Tough, tough call. I wouldn't try the former and I'd only do the latter one time :)

I hate when I spend an hour negotiating/talking to the GC and then he spends 15 seconds talking to a crew and disappears.
Mar 23, 2012 19:56
It's better to mention both, if he said he had 12 years experience you wouldn't know if you were his first "real" customer, if he said he'd been in business for 4 years you'd think he was inexperienced compared to the 12 year guy.
Mar 23, 2012 19:52
@Aaron Worked 8 years for someone else before hanging a shingle (starting his own biz)
Mar 22, 2012 22:26
@Aaron I have no idea, especially since it's on the edge. I think you have to repour the whole thing. Maybe you can do something decorative instead?
Mar 22, 2012 20:34
Sounds like a Mike Holmes kind of job

Just popping in - I'm going to be largely worthless for the next determinable bit, making a cross-country move among many other things. There are emails in the blog account: Could an admin handle those?

I think we can turn the Community wiki tools list question into an entry if we can think of what to add.
Mar 27, 2012 12:26
And...and....and
Mar 27, 2012 12:25
Oh and I'm willing to do the Question of the Indeterminable Time Period entry as long as it's not a weekly commitment.
Mar 27, 2012 12:24
Ok, that's my two cents. I think we can come up with something useful if we poke at this idea awhile. I'll check back in this evening.
Mar 27, 2012 12:20
@Tester I had half-heartedly hoped that the blog lull would be noticed and commented upon and lead to greater action. I appreciate the meta question and @lqlarry's new article. I feel like I screwed up as well by shooting that lovely queue out in 3 straight weeks - we really have to go to a biweekly schedule for the near future.
Mar 27, 2012 12:16
The filler as impediment to more content concern was supposed to be a bullet point #2. :) Need more coffee.
Mar 27, 2012 12:15
I think it works on SuperUser, they have a huge question base AND they typically fill out the entry with more data. I've struggled to look at our best answers and figure out how to make them more informative.
Mar 27, 2012 12:14
Maybe, if the asker/answerers got positive feedback.
Mar 27, 2012 12:13
I like the idea as an every once-in-awhile kind of thing (maybe monthly). My concerns are these: 1) A blog that regurgitates the site doesn't add much value IMO. There's already a newsletter and a "hot" questions view if you just want to be kept appraised of the recent questions. If this was our go-to filler option, my thinking is the last few entries of the blog home page would be filler. Does seeing that content encourage others to contribute to the blog?
Mar 27, 2012 12:09
I'll be AFK for most of the day but here's my thoughts on a QotW:

@AndrewGrimm So...3 blog posts mentioning sexist behavior for Ruby, 0 blog posts for Smalltalk? What does that prove? Still seems random and poll-driven to me.
