I can attest to what @roganjosh says, I've seen data billed by the MB here too

@Stewart In the USA I get the impression that most people know which way they’re facing on a compass. In the UK, not at all. I’m thinking of the first direction you’d be given by a sat-nav/GPS, E.G. “Head East”. To an American this might make sense but to most Brits, this first direction is completely pointless (no pun intended lol).

Any VMware guys around at all please? Is it possible to use vCenter Lifecycle Manager Images to install component updates on the host, when it is the only host/server? vCenter says running VMs must be powered down first, but vCenter is one of them. Thanks so much! serverfault.com/questions/1153267/…

Doesn't matter. I reverted the VM to my snapshot from before upgrading from Win 2019 to Win 2022. The in-place upgrade really b0rk3d Exchange/IIS. I managed to find all of the bindings & basic settings but it still wasn't happy. Will try to upgrade to Win 2022 again soon lol

Also the Application Pool in Basic Settings. Same for the Exchange Back End website please. Thanks again

The bill payer has no say in the matter when they’ve signed a 99-year lease. If they had wanted to they could have installed meters for each of the floors/companies/tenants, yet they chose not to; ostensibly because it’s cheaper not to. This is pretty common in the UK for shared commercial buildings. How would they even determine which floor/company is using the most power? Most companies are going to be running multiple servers/machinery using far more power than the OP writes about. It’s standard practice, it’s accounted for in the price of the leases, and the business model clearly works.
Sep 20, 2023 08:47
@Lag Clearly we have worked in different places lol. We would all be charging up our hoverboards, e-scooters, etc in work. It’s really not a problem when we get unlimited power. If there were seperate meters for the different tenants, this could be an issue; but in reality most buildings I’ve worked in that are shared do not do this, it’s included in the lease. Why would the boss care if it’s free?
Sep 20, 2023 08:47
@Lag it’s grey whether or not the usage is unauthorised if the company has unlimited electricity as part of their lease. Here the authority was given - by the building owner. To the company, whose employees work there, and therefore have the authority to use the electricity. Whether it was dishonest will probably boil down to whether management knew before now, and suddenly take issue with it. If so, it’s not dishonest - since the employee has been honest for 5 years about using it. It is not clear from the OP’s question whether or not they’ve known about this going on for years.
Sep 20, 2023 08:47
One thing to note: often, shared commercial buildings do not measure/bill electricity to their tenants - so the unusual electricity consumption may not have been noticed by a company occupying a single floor, only to the building owner (from my experience in the UK). If the company was permitted unlimited electricity by the building owner, then this may not be illegal. If however they pay their own power bill then in the UK there is a specific law governing the theft of electricity - “the offence of dishonestly using electricity without authority”

One thing you haven’t mentioned is whether you just found this all out now, or whether you/staff/management knew they’d installed this on 40 PC’s before now - if so, you may have given implicit consent. In other words, have you known for years and just let it slide until now, when you found out that hardware had been purchased; or that they were earning too much money?

Thanks for such a detailed reply! So accents are mainly just for emphasis. Maybe you could write this as an answer? If there’s some way that I or you could edit my question to be better then I would be glad. Haartelijk bedankt! Fijne dag 😊

Q: Can I get a discount on my flight for not being fat?

CaptainCodemanIf I weighed 120kg I could check in 20kg of luggage for free, getting 140kg transported for my ticket price. But if I weigh 70kg, I'm 50kg lighter and yet pay the same for the same luggage limit; and pay excess charges if my luggage is say, 25kg and exceeds a 20kg limit. So what I pay for trans...
