Which model of calculator are you looking at that has a dedicated button for factorial? Neither the TI-30X IIS nor TI 84 Plus, two of the most popular in the US, have a dedicated button, both have the ability to calculate factorial but it's buried in a menu.

I downvoted because you could have written the same advice (spend $10-20 on your own equipment) without all the snark. If you rewrite without the snark I would change my vote to up.

@Darren that is my question too. And what is the Director hoping OP will do? Talk the client out of it? Make up a report out of whole cloth? Get themselves fired?

Part-time shoulders are typically on the right, right? And passing on the right is generally bad?

Nitpicking any pull request (never mind one in DRAFT status) definitely sounds like they are trying to build a pretext for terminating OP's employment.

Is natural gas service not available? The traditional "most host water in least space" option is tankless gas water heater(s).

Oct 18, 2022 22:27
Just to be clear, the person who said "you are going to face a long hard road in all avenues of your life" is a commenter on a single answer to the OP's question. The TA in the original question just asked a social question and there is little to no indication that the TA attempted to blackmail or coerce OP to answer.

@Harper-ReinstateMonica would there be any downside to single hose units being illegal? Is there any use case at all for them? The only downside I see is current lack of availability / overpricing, which would be 90% solved by making them illegal.

There are SO MANY rabid Potter-heads that they're probably equal to infinite monkeys on infinite typewriters, and one of them has already written word-for-word whatever innovative fan fic you have in mind.

"dangerously close to trying to time the market" Your proposed scheme is almost textbook market timing.

Nov 29, 2021 19:17
When I was in third grade teacher asked about a problem in the book. I raised my hand immediately. She asked how I had solved it so fast and I said I had looked ahead. She said something that hardly seemed fair to the rest of the class. So it is 100% true that people with this mindset exist in the real world.

@J... You are way overstating how objective the field is, in everything from white space and variable names, up to whether those "objective metrics" have actually been met (and met in the best way, and whether they are the right metrics or you just chose them because they were easy to measure, and how to make tradeoffs between competing metrics, ad infinitum).

What about the question indicates that OP is thinking of a car as a status symbol? All they say is that they have the cash and are interested in the car, without giving any reason why.

I don't understand why the word "flexibility" is being used here. Using your vacation time to go on vacations, away from your home, is so fundamental to the word "vacation" that we have invented a separate word "staycation" for the idea of taking time off from work to spend it at home.

@ThreePhaseEel According to reviewed.com/laundry/features/… condenser driers are much more efficient and gentler on clothes than venting dryers. And then heat pump dryers are even more efficient than that.

Is no one else bothered by the fact that OP has repeatedly chosen the "hero for putting out a fire they started" route?

@Jeffrey the misunderstanding seems to be common. I wonder if it is common enough to have the effect of discouraging earning?

What does "reputed schools produce good grades" mean? Should "grades" be "graduates" or something?

I interviewed at a startup where multiple interviewers appeared shocked that I worked the same place for more than 6 years. I can't imagine what they would have done if I had worked the same place 15 years. I honestly don't know why they bothered interviewing me, since the dates of my employment were clearly stated on my resume. That said, their loss, not mine.

Is there any country where signing contracts with blanks is normal and/or legal?

I am not a lawyer but I am pretty sure an employee who wants to seek accommodation has to proactively ask for it. And that the employer does not have an obligation to drag it out of a reluctant or recalcitrant employee.

In the US (at a federal level, anyways) it is not illegal to discriminate against young people.

Dec 13, 2018 07:27
@DigitalBlade969 I don't know how they get away with that presidential requirement. Regardless, my point is that just because you can come up with an argument as to why your discrimination is beneficial, doesn't make it legal. If challenged, you have to prove that it is a bona fide occupational qualification (BFOQ), that the requirement doesn't have a disparate impact on protected classes, etc.
Dec 13, 2018 07:27
@DigitalBlade969 one could argue that being born in the USA would improve the applicant's command of the English language, which would make for better collaboration. It would still be illegal.

Regarding point 2 (and kind of following on jean's comment), if you wait until a person or especially a corporation accomplishes the act, then that entity will have a sunk cost, and it will become more rational for them to fight tooth and nail against prohibiting use of the action they just figured out. By dissuading them from even trying, you can nip the fight in the bud.

Have you talked to your manager? That's who has authority over your day-to-day activities. Unless the person you already emailed was the CEO or something; but even then, there is some small chance your manager will be willing to intervene on your behalf.

@BenVoigt Math is hard, apparently
Oct 17, 2018 09:02
Not to pile on but the 150 (and it seems clear that's what gnasher meant, since there's an example) is way too low. Just to start with, there are 260 weekdays in a year, so $400 a day would be something like $104k per year. Then you have to up it to cover benefits, self-employment tax, etc. And then a little extra to account for the ease with which a contractor's contract is terminated. Using other commenters' rule of thumb, 1.5 * 260 = 390 ration between contractor daily rate and salaried employee's annual salary.

@Wildcard all I can seem to find is repetitions of Sen. Graham's quote. I am not a lawyer or judge of any kind, but as far as I know, prior to recent events, did the ABA make any statement or evaluation of the nominee other than rating him "Well Qualified"? abajournal.com/news/article/…
Sep 30, 2018 16:35
@Wildcard can you link to somewhere that the ABA published a statement with those words? The sentence structure, tone, and content don't sound like something such an association would put into a statement. All I found searching that exact phrase were paraphrases by other people.

Related anecdote: IT department at my workplace sent out an announcement that they would be coming around to install remote wiping software on our (BYO) cell phones. I was worried about being "that guy" so I watered down my reply down to "Is that really necessary? I can avoid keeping any company info on my phone." Turns out, (obvious in retrospect) I was far from the only employee who objected. So, I wouldn't worry too much about being "that parent," you're surely not alone in being concerned, and every objecting parent increases the probability of them fixing the policy.

If this is in the United States, is there any reason the default presumption of at will employment doesn't apply? Is there a union or other contract?

I am under the impression that aisle seats are preferred by more travelers than window seats, or at least roughly equal. Was this hypothetical flight some kind of sightseeing excursion?

Is it really out of the cabin crew's power and/or responsibility to politely tell mr. tiny bladder that he has no choice but to change seats?

@BobE maybe even politifact?

@Fattie what are "PT People"?

Jun 27, 2018 02:55
@GOATNine I'm sure you are, but us desk workers are not. I think your already great answer would be improved if you added in that if the incline is even just 3% or more, that exceeds the 50lb pushing limit. (comments are to request clarification or suggest improvement)
Jun 27, 2018 02:55
@GOATNine if the incline is really 45 degrees (that would be an extremely steep sidewalk in the real world), 2/3rds of the weight of the object would be borne by the OP and his teammates. Even if it's only a 5% angle (ADA compliant maximum, maybe?) that would be something like 87 lbs, which is above the 70 lb team lift max. Moving day is tomorrow, is OSHA really going to react that fast?
Jun 27, 2018 02:55
@user88622 by the time your employer is demanding that you prove something is against OSHA regs, it seems to me that you should be spending your time updating your resume.

Jun 18, 2018 23:12
@RandomUs1r Well, I can agree with that, it shouldn't be the last step in the process, any more than it should be the first step.
Jun 18, 2018 23:12
@RandomUs1r I disagree. Any company needs to invest enough time talking to the candidate so that both the company and the candidate can know the candidate could be plausibly hired, before giving them a take-home exercise that will take hours/days.
