seems i popped in at a turbulent time, thats a lot of mod resignations
Oct 1, 2019 21:38
just read the news, congrats Kaz
Feb 13, 2019 16:55
thanks for the assistance by the way
Feb 13, 2019 16:55
@motosubatsu phew, i think my tab would be quite high otherwise
Feb 13, 2019 16:34
if i remove having to worry about staleness by having a different automated process stay on top of it
Feb 13, 2019 16:34
@motosubatsu huh, yknow this might perfectly solve my problem
Feb 13, 2019 16:26
@motosubatsu Would have been a nice way to do it if it didnt have to sometimes go to a third party via an api (when our version is stale)
Feb 13, 2019 15:18
i could seperate the two, but we never want to be in a situation where someone can run the query portion without the command portion, or that could cost us, way too much money
Feb 13, 2019 15:18
so its not a query because it modifies, but its not a command because it returns business data
Feb 13, 2019 15:17
@motosubatsu i basically have a piece of work thats neither pure query or pure command, from a consumers perspective its a query, because it looks data up, but under the hood it also modifies data (long term caching in our db) so that we can avoid being charged too much as we rely on a third party service.
Feb 13, 2019 15:14
@RichardU that sounds problematic
Feb 13, 2019 15:07
hows things been lately? anything exciting?
Feb 13, 2019 15:07
Ran into a weird design issue recently and was hoping i could nick your knowledge :P I'll pester the people over at software engineering instead

Sep 25, 2019 10:39
@trollingchar people want to make the games they like playing. They like playing rpg or mmo so they want to make one. They dont like to play pong so they dont make it
Sep 25, 2019 10:38
@SpartanDonut Donut!
Sep 24, 2019 17:40
Here two days in a row! almost unheard of :P hi all
Sep 23, 2019 19:39
yeah, its got some influence from games like anno (production chains, rising pop) and factorio (production chains). But in this game you dont control the population. the game does, and it changes, and their needs change, so you also have to make something that adapts with it, rather than just (x is always better than y)
Sep 23, 2019 19:36
its a mathy, spreadsheety type game
Sep 23, 2019 19:36
with the goal being to get as high a population as possible
Sep 23, 2019 19:36
its a game about creating complex production chains to build higher tiers of resources to use in other production chains, to fill the needs of a growing population
Sep 23, 2019 19:35
in vague general terms
Sep 23, 2019 19:33
thankfully i dont think im doing anything too advanced
Sep 23, 2019 19:00
gives a bunch of stuff you can use, or can ignore and do yourself
Sep 23, 2019 19:00
yeah, unity allows you to swap out pretty much anything though if i remember rightly?
Sep 23, 2019 18:43
toasted something and need to debug
Sep 23, 2019 18:43
got to quickly do a visual studio update though to get the unity package
Sep 23, 2019 18:43
good i guess, making some progress, even if small
Sep 23, 2019 18:32
i forgot how quickly time passes when youre in the unity editor
Sep 23, 2019 16:21
yeah i made sure of it, would have driven me mad otherwise
Sep 23, 2019 16:14
i use two at both home and work, makes remoting in to work much easier as everything stays put
Sep 23, 2019 11:22
i've got to relearn everything i knew about unity as its been so long since i last attempted anything
Sep 23, 2019 11:22
multiplayer definitely ramps up the difficulty
Sep 23, 2019 11:17
its definitely increased in scale then!
Sep 23, 2019 11:13
sounds like you'll enjoy making it though!
Sep 23, 2019 11:13
yeah the micro transaction games always end up making it harder to play
Sep 23, 2019 11:02
decided to make the move over to it?
Sep 23, 2019 11:01
about the game?
Sep 23, 2019 10:57
are you using unity?
Sep 23, 2019 10:55
sounds like a good challenge to throw yourself at though
Sep 23, 2019 10:54
I loved the worms games!
Sep 23, 2019 10:46
im good thanks, semi working from home, so a bit slow to reply sorry :P
Sep 23, 2019 10:45
ooh what game are you making?
Sep 23, 2019 10:29
Hi! how're you
Sep 23, 2019 10:26
Hey all, time for my annual drop in to see how everyone is doing :P

Feb 13, 2019 16:25
do you think that would be an ontopic question to ask on this site?
Feb 13, 2019 16:23
@SimonForsberg That's the view i was taking to it, though i was quite liberal with the word caching, as its essentially just updating the db record with the latest information, and i wasnt sure what side of the 'is or isnt modification' line that that fell
