Root Access

For all you Super Users out there. You have backups, right?
Jul 28, 2016 00:37
True, true.
Jul 28, 2016 00:34
Sounds like that could easily work in GUI though
Jul 28, 2016 00:33
....I see.
Jul 28, 2016 00:27
POSIX. Never heard of that.
Jul 28, 2016 00:22
Oh, it's the thing where you do "sudo something"?
Jul 28, 2016 00:21
@ThatBrazilianGuy Is that .bat files?
Jul 28, 2016 00:20
I don't even know what Chocolatey, Nuget and Oneget are. They manage Windows updates? Also why CLI?
Jul 28, 2016 00:19
@ThatBrazilianGuy What? Who?
Jul 28, 2016 00:18
@ThatBrazilianGuy Package management for PHP/JS/etc.
Jul 28, 2016 00:17
@ThatBrazilianGuy Sounds practical. Windows should learn.
Jul 28, 2016 00:17
@ThatBrazilianGuy One of my friends tried it once. Never tried again, and he's very angry whenever he sees that sorta thing. Especially since we work in web. Who the fuck needs package management for JS plugins? D:
Jul 28, 2016 00:16
@ThatBrazilianGuy Now that you mention it, it would be nice if apps came from a sort of Play Store-like thing. Would probably make updates easier.
Jul 28, 2016 00:14
@ThatBrazilianGuy Updating applications ? Really? Whenever I see a JS/PHP/etc thing that works with package management (Bower, etc.) I just go "UGH, GIMME A ZIP" and go away.
Jul 28, 2016 00:12
@bob My old GPU was EVGA GTX 660 Ti 3GB.
Jul 28, 2016 00:12
@ThatBrazilianGuy I seeee.
Jul 28, 2016 00:11
@ThatBrazilianGuy It's rare and although I have close to no experience with it, it sounds like a pain altogether.
Jul 28, 2016 00:10
Done what?
Jul 28, 2016 00:09
@ThatBrazilianGuy Shock! Also the lack of a taskbar is kinda disrupting.
Jul 28, 2016 00:08
@Bob No?
Jul 28, 2016 00:07
@ThatBrazilianGuy People actually use Linux on desktop machines? And choose to do so?
Jul 28, 2016 00:05
@ThatBrazilianGuy Your boss likes Mac OS a lot?
Jul 28, 2016 00:04
@Bob I didn't figure a basic game like that was heavy on the processor. However since it's 3D and all I thought if there was a bottle neck, it'd be the graphics card.
Jul 27, 2016 23:40
So Hearthstone runs a lot more smoothly on my new processor than it did on my old one... but thing is, I'm using Intel graphics now. Weird.
Jul 27, 2016 03:28
@JourneymanGeek I think the Galaxy S4 I used for a while went up to Android 5.x. I was somewhat impressed.
Jul 27, 2016 03:27
Like, I panicked when one of my websites wasn't working on my mom's friend's iPad. iOS 7 damn it. Update, once in a century, please.
Jul 27, 2016 03:26
@Psycogeek Not Nexus or Moto, AFAIK
Jul 27, 2016 03:25
@ThatBrazilianGuy Or pick a brand that gives you more than 18 months of updates ;)
Jul 27, 2016 03:24
@JourneymanGeek I guess some people still have old phones.
Jul 27, 2016 03:24
@ThatBrazilianGuy Ah yes Android 6 it is.
Jul 27, 2016 03:24
And ehm, there's also the idea of avoiding obviously suspicious apps. Flashlight? Audio? Eh no.
Jul 27, 2016 03:23
Well, my phone does. I go to send someone a picture I take right now, and I get asked if I want to give X app access to my camera
Jul 27, 2016 03:22
Also nowadays Android asks for most permissions at the exact moment when the app needs them, no?
Jul 27, 2016 03:22
No one ever reads the Terms of Use. They're not even actually legal in my country
Jul 27, 2016 03:21
Every program that has a contact linking function I guess?
Jul 27, 2016 03:19
Eh, really? I don't think I've not understood a permission so far.
Jul 27, 2016 03:13
@ThatBrazilianGuy Like what? I don't remember seeing anything especially alarming in the permissions I was asked for.
Jul 27, 2016 03:10
Well, on the front of it.
Jul 27, 2016 03:10
Tfw I'm pretty sure I plugged that big USB3 cord onto my motherboard but the only USB3 port on my PC doesn't work.
Jul 27, 2016 03:03
@JourneymanGeek That's... smart.
Jul 27, 2016 03:02
That reply thing.
Jul 27, 2016 03:02
@ThatBrazilianGuy I don't even know how to do that
Jul 27, 2016 03:01
(I was replying your previous tag)
Jul 27, 2016 03:01
The Windows 10 install disc
Jul 27, 2016 03:00
@JourneymanGeek I don't really have a USB key I wanna dedicate to this, and I kinda want to keep it for the future D:
Jul 24, 2016 03:54
I got an error trying to burn my Windows DVD. I only have one disc left so I'll try again tomorrow. G'night everyone.
Jul 24, 2016 03:41
Sounds like a pain. I can't really help, but hang in there.
Jul 24, 2016 03:34
So basically what do you think I should do? Delete my Documents folder, replace it with a junction towards D:\, rinse and repeat for other folders in my Documents folder?
Jul 24, 2016 03:33
Well, my SSD is 4 years old
Jul 24, 2016 03:33
I'm not sure at all, no.
Jul 24, 2016 03:31
Hmm, something about writes and reads to AppData being bad for the SSD?
