And no don't do that!!!

Safe trip.

Honest profiles would help. I guess it's just a difference of opinion... can someone truly answer from a different perspective than their own without prejudice? Could Westcott and Hort, eg, write their Greek text without personal bias? To me, that is the fox guarding the hen house. Thus, I always research people.
yst 19:45
I understand that.
yst 19:45
btw if you are interested you can see pretty much exactly where I am coming from in my profile.
yst 19:44
Well thank you very much!
yst 19:43
I already started a list in my notes about the beliefs of the posters! Full preterist, Swedenborgians, etc.
yst 19:41
thanks again.
yst 19:40
ok, I guess my concerns are unclear.. I will continue to engage to see why I began to feel uneasy.
yst 19:38
I am just concerned about searchers who may unwittingly get misled.
yst 19:37
I am not worried about myself. I read commentaries from many different perspectives
yst 19:36
I understand the site is not run by any governing body, nor is it Christian. However, it has a Christian label. That is dangerous inho. A little self policing might go a long way.

Thanks for all the info.
yst 19:32
I honestly don't know. This site is weird to me, almost like an amalgamation of Christianity, cultism, and legalistic atheism.
I think I agree about not requiring transparency. At a minimum, however, I for one will keep pressing for any true followers of Christ to be honest about where they are coming from, as truthfulness is required of us, is it not? This will accomplish a few things, not least of which is setting an example of what it means to be a Christian.
yst 19:23
2. Anyone who considers themself a Christian should set the example of transparency. 3.
3. (I know I said 2 things, sorry!) Bias is always at work. Anyone who is educated and honest knows this. Before I give my ear to anyone, I research who they are.
yst 19:19
1. Most new users do not realize this.
yst 19:19
does not handle the truth. BUT I would venture to say 2 things:
yst 19:18
I need to mull this over (not that anyone cares what I think). My allegiance is, however, to Jesus Christ, and the truth as best as I can determine as a Berean. I know Ch. SE

@GratefulDisciple thank you...

This is Mimi... not sure why my new username isn't coming up here.

@GratefulDisciple I am here.

Jesus said, when He returns (which sure looks soon!) Will He find faith on the earth? Sobering words.
Jun 14 15:27
That sounds like it could have been a valid experience. How frightening! But greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world.
I was a Pentecostal for many many years. I have stepped back, not because I don't believe there can be gifts today, but because I think there are many, even true believers, who say they are speaking for the Lord who clearly are not, imho.
Speaking in tongues is a wonderful gift and we should not forbid it; but, we need to major on the majors, which I feel many modern Christians, including myself, tend not to do.
Jun 14 14:51
THAT is how you test the spirits.
Jun 14 14:50
I actually was present at several Rodney Howard Browne services, as a believer in the manifestation of the gifts at the time. I can tell you, I felt very uncomfortable and grieved in my spirit. There is nothing about his particular brand of charismania that is Scriptural.

@GratefulDisciple A new favorite; see especially on 1 John 2:13-17

There are so many Scriptures that people quote to prove the existence of a trinity, and they are good, but for some reason my mind always goes back to Genesis where God said "Let US make man in OUR image." What else could that possibly mean?
Jun 5 12:38
"Though the mystery is difficult to comprehend, and requires an act of faith to believe it" pretty much sums it all up, doesn't it?
Jun 5 12:37
But this also:
Jun 5 12:35
I like this quote from it: “Just because it’s a mystery,” she told us, “does not mean that it cannot be more fully understood.” I guess that's why so many here debate and struggle with it.
Jun 5 12:34
I read it, it is somewhat helpful...but it still makes my head hurt, trying to understand the Trinity!
Jun 5 12:32
Thank you @so few
Jun 4 21:59
@SoFewAgainstSoMany which link? I would like to take a listen too; i am not totally disinterested in the Trinity lol... I guess it's just something that is settled in my mind, that there is a Trinity and I cannot really understand it, and I am not bothered by that; and, I just was in a chat room where part of the conversation was re: the Trinity and it went round and round ad infinitem. It's a long sad story I don't want to get into right now lol!

If I don't know what a passage means, I go to my favorites above first. If I still don't get it, I can read every single commentary on the website on it. He has a by/verse tab.
Jun 4 21:46
I never agree with any one of them all the time but wow do they add so much to my understanding! The men from past centuries are mind-boggling productive - no tv or internet? They write commentaries on every verse of the Bible and die young to boot.
They just know Scripture so well - I will never know it as well as they did/do! Another one is William Barkley- he doesn't believe in the divinity of Christ, but he is very useful for historical and cultural context.
I keep a note on each one I return to, on their religious affiliation. As, I wish wholeheartedly, would occur on C.SE. I know ther

I study online mostly. On my phone! I use a website studylight.org. He constantly adds more commentaries, I just love the website.

@GratefulDisciple I was just looking into McGrath, it seems like he is rather brilliant. Maybe above my head! My brain is old and tired. But he debated Dawkins, brave man, and I wonder if he had some influence on him because not too long ago, I think, Dawkins said that (religion? I think) was good for society.
Jun 4 14:39
Amen. I suppose that is the bottom line, and the application to myself, which is preeminent, is it not?
Jun 4 14:38
Please do! BOTH interpretations seem very plausible. I kind of like the one where God is greater and therefore will forgive me, but in context it seems to mean the other- He is more offended by my sin than I am!
Jun 4 14:35
From various perspectives, keeping in mind theirs, especially if Calvinist or not. I am definitely not a Calvinist, but some of the older commentators have much to offer, especially in providing passages that relate to the one in question,
