yah, I know that. I’m confused why I’m still being prompted for a password and such, tho, after uninstalling and then reinstalling

Idk if my @ worked on the post, but it's here:

You wouldn't be able to also help me figure out MySQL would you? I upgraded Ubuntu so I could install MySQL8, but I'm having trouble/getting confused between mysql, mysqld, mariadb, mysql-server, etc.
Jan 29, 2023 03:55
So, I can remove the tarball, but not the vhdx, right? @NotTheDr01ds
Jan 29, 2023 02:59
I created my old user 'coni' and it opened everything as it was!!! OMFG... I kind of hate computers, but love you.
Jan 29, 2023 02:58
IT CAME BACK!!!
Jan 29, 2023 02:48
I also am realizing that I probably THOUGHT that the tar was Ubuntu 18 because I was confused by the naming stuff at the time (and it was already updated to 22 even though the name didn't change). The pressing question is if my files exist anywhere
Jan 29, 2023 02:46
No luck... I'm stressing out a bit. I thought I was creating the distribution based on my tar file and it would have all my old files... I kind of want to give up and buy a mac... @NotTheDr01ds

@NotTheDr01ds ? (wasn't sure if the first message sent you a notification since I edited it)

Ah, okay. That makes more sense. I did get confused given the multiple possible solutions then.

So, after doing the `--import` I can see the distribution in Windows Terminal, but there aren't any files in the directory... did I lose all my files? It's also already the 22.04 distribution, which confuses me because I thought I created the tarball before upgrading.

Also, (after I figure out if I have any of my old files anywhere) is it safe to delete the .vhdx file?
Jan 26, 2023 21:06
I'm going back over everything and starting from the `--import` command (I ran `--unregister` and deleted the existing .vdhx files in the coniferous_ubuntu dir)

So... the `--import` command creates an Ubuntu instance (that I can see with `wsl -l -v` AND creates the .vhdx file (I see both after running that command).

I then ran this command to create the $ubuntuDist variable:
Get-ChildItem HKCU:\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Lxss\ |
ForEach-Object {
(Get-ItemProperty $_.PSPATH) | Where-Object { $_.DistributionName -eq "coniferous_ubuntu" }
Jan 26, 2023 03:24
Okay... I feel like I missed something, but sounds good

So the error messages have gone away now that we've removed those paths from PATH, but I'm still not able to run the --import command because a file is in use by some process...

Is it an issue that Ubuntu 22.04 started up when I launched windows terminal? I had it set as the default previously
Jan 25, 2023 15:37
Cool.
Sounds good
Jan 25, 2023 15:36

Wait. Nvm, it does switch to a new shell:
bash-5.1#
Jan 25, 2023 14:50
That just returns the error messages and doesn't switch to 22.04:
```
