Gross indecency criminalizes sexual contact between men, even in private. "The offence was never actually defined in any of the statutes which used it, which left the scope of the offence to be defined by court decisions." In other words, capricious and arbitrary. Tyranny. So yes, a most subtle propaganda indeed.

"there were many TV programmes that made fun of the idea of homosexuals being camp, and la-di-da. The jokes weren't cruel.." Alan Turing was a war hero. One of the best minds England had ever produced. Also a homosexual. Was prosecuted for it. Chemical castration was the usual sentence. Cruel enough for you? Messed him up, he said. Mentally. Committed suicide. Maybe could have used him during the cold war? Brits apologized in 2009. Retroactive pardon 2017, to all the victims of this law.

Nothing. You put the drive down the center of gravity of whatever shape you fancy, to avoid a high moment of inertia when you light the torch, but otherwise there is no preferred... wait. You want a sphere, because down is the direction opposite your drive, when it's on, but in free fall any direction you pick is down, so a sphere, with a drive down the middle, with weapons and sensors all over it.

Relevant because the hero is engaging in a series of zero sum games for some reason, unknown to us. What is the optimal set of strategies for all involved, including the King? Bayesian game perhaps? Heroes don't really know what is coming next, but their actions become more and more clear to the unknown number of adversaries. Regardless, they certainly have a plan for situations such as you describe, you still are in their keep, and fighting sequentially ( and retreating ) would slow you down. All they need are short spears, and they can limit casualties as they retreat through choke points.

Frank at the front gate might have been a good buddy, but if you are standing guard in a castle, you are in the best possible situation, this is the reason castles exist. Let me link someone who shared your worldview: knowyourmeme.com/memes/i-have-the-high-ground. Perhaps you are familiar with Anakin Skywalker, who did not turn and run, but instead, went for the kill, and damaged his position. An excellent object lesson about the wisdom of fighting on the enemy's terms.

First, some reference: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_theory. Now, in your examples, the adversaries are defending territory, fortified in the castle case. Predators, like basilisks are solitary, and territorial. Why attack with a different species instead of waiting to see who gets wounded? Attacking the strong is how you get killed. As for the soldiers, guys on the outer gates are lowest, guys defending the king are the toughest. Why leave your post, when hero is coming to you? Are you a berserker? Obviously not, nobody puts them on watch, because they can't be trusted.

@Mr.Bond "History is the true story of actual events that really occurred in the physical world." Most things in the Bible are historically dubious, or unknowable, or unprovable. BoM much more so. Does that make the text invalid? Of course not. Your faith does not exist in the empirical world. It is a model of reality inside your head, an imperfect one, but perhaps still of value. This new model of reality should make you act different "in the real world."
Jul 12, 2021 00:19
@Mr.Bond I am a rationalist, or at least I try to be. It's tricky, because turns out that the idea that "rational thinking" can lead one to the ultimate truth is flawed. Gödel and Tarski proved that there are some truths in any formal system that cannot be proved. Some statements are true, but unprovable. Joe Smith, divinely inspired? ¯_(ツ)_/¯ If you have an experiment to determine this, please share. You don't, though. Surely you know this. As for your motives? I have no idea how you think or what motives you have. I just think your actions are ... unclear. Take care.
Jul 12, 2021 00:19
@Mr.Bond You are conflating "rationalism," with "deduction." I explicitly stated a premise about God: He does stuff like I outlined earlier. Also, he exists. Christianity follows from these and other premises. Given these, we can define a belief system that is internally consistent via deduction, more or less. The obvious problem here is that the arguments that would debunk Mormonism, also apply to Christianity. Fortunately, it's not a real issue, since faith is required. Faith is the point. Blind faith? I believe the term is "submit to the Will of the Lord." I will now address rationalism.
Jul 12, 2021 00:19
@Mr.Bond The fundamental axiom here is that God, for his own reasons, selects certain humans through which to transmit information, and instructions on how to live. These rules vary slightly. Moses went up a mountain, came back with some rules. Joseph Smith went out into the desert, came back with some rules. If God does these kind of things, then Moses or Joseph Smith are just conduits. Remove them, someone else steps up. Regardless, the test is not to prove. The test is to have faith. No rational argument will debunk the LDS alone. I question your motives here.

@user85880 Nope, we are not marbles being carried hither and yon, devoid of agency, victim to whatever maleficent influences that cross our paths. We have agency, and so, must take responsibility for ensuring that we are the people we aspire to be. You gotta clean out the junk in your head, who else will do it? Now, as for the "burning sexual frustration" I feel that maybe you should review your porno checklist, possibly something, perhaps, is not being done. We aint blaming women. We aint blaming porn. Incels have made a choice. It's not like spinal bifida.
Jun 16, 2021 13:13
"where anyone could smuggle child porn, weapons, drugs and enrol themselves as private hackers and assassins or even sell slaves?" Kiddie porners ruin everything. Nobody invites them, nobody wants them, but if messaging is secure they'll be there. and right behind them is the Man.
Jun 16, 2021 13:13
The same way that the pathetic incel must accept that hoops exist and must be jumped through, you will have to accept that marketing yourself is more important than whatever the gig is. The most important thing however is to KEEP IT MOVING. Chewing old memories of failure is like chewing cud. Cud is for cows, don't hold on to the past.
Jun 16, 2021 13:13
Few things: Incels make themselves, buy using one person as a template for many, because of a sense of entitlement with respect to someone else's body. Fortunately, porn is free now, they can hit the hub and jerk away the rage. Solved problem.

@TCooper Those craters you reference were caused by quite small asteroids, like fridge or schoolbus sized. Again, it's the speed that they impact that causes the mayhem. Deflect it? With what? An inertia free drive would save us. We don't have one. Won't have one. Can't have one. We have as much chance of survival as gibbons. At least the AI's won't win, I guess. That's something.
Jun 15, 2021 19:27
This dissent is astonishing. This object, falling from interstellar space and impacting earth will destroy the biosphere. It will fill the skies with flame, once for the impact, and then many times as the crust hurled up into the upper stratosphere heats via friction. It's moving at interstellar speeds. It will be an extinction event. It'll vaporize the sea if it lands there, the tsunami will be molten crust. Extinction events target apex predators. That's us. Shelter? Please. You gonna nip out and eat the corpses of the dead? Where's your air coming from? Did you hide the shelter? Pfft.

@RedwolfPrograms Ah, I see, thanks for the clarification. Appreciated.
Apr 3, 2021 04:05
What about the Halting Problem? You can't know that your task WILL complete, right? When your computational time reaches the end of the universe, will 15 more seconds help? Or not? You can't know.

Mar 11, 2021 05:51
Anyway I gotta go order some food, thanks for the chat, take care. Talking about turnips made me want pizza :D
Mar 11, 2021 05:41
LOL
Mar 11, 2021 05:41
guys getting blotto on wine and puking up turnips behind the hut, and suddenly they are solving gravity at the coffee house and sailing to the ends of the earth
Mar 11, 2021 05:39
lol you can see in British history when they got tea and tobacco, how stoked they were about it
Mar 11, 2021 05:38
like they went absolutely batshit when they tasted pepper for the first time
Mar 11, 2021 05:37
Turnips, beef, gruel and salt
Mar 11, 2021 05:37
Turnips was what they had lol
Mar 11, 2021 05:36
But not a trivial thing to do if you were the turnip guy for his Lordship.
Mar 11, 2021 05:35
Heh, I have to confess to a modern bias, no matter what, I'd be wanting to hit the city ASAP
Mar 11, 2021 05:24
Yeah, easy to investigate, just picture an argument you had with your parents. At the time I thought they were looking at me funny, but now those funny looks kind of look like the "cut to the bone by what my kid just said" looks.
Mar 11, 2021 05:20
The structures in our brains that process affect in others don't fully mature until late teens, early 20's. I remember my mom told me that in my late 20's and I was like "Really?"
Mar 11, 2021 05:08
Ugh.
Mar 11, 2021 05:05
but if you have asperger's then it can be difficult for people to understand that you can't read their faces, from what I understand. Nobody is gonna burn the village cretin because the cows went dry, but the loner who with the bad timing, especially if they are female?
Mar 11, 2021 05:01
Maybe you get teased like hell, but its obvious what's going on.
Mar 11, 2021 05:00
You stlll can help out doing stuff
Mar 11, 2021 05:00
Say you have IQ 67 because of beriberi, or rubella or whatnot
Mar 11, 2021 04:59
my whole thing was that in a village you need to be able to work somehow, to be worth the upkeep
Mar 11, 2021 04:57
:D
Mar 11, 2021 04:57
They'd put you on scribe duty, it'd be just like web dev
Mar 11, 2021 04:54
I feel that autists would do well as monks, you just need to overlook, ah, the buggery but the rituals would help, i think?
Mar 11, 2021 04:50
God, I would hate to be depressed back then :(
Mar 11, 2021 04:50
if you are an unfriend to plants then they seek to restrict your motion noticeably. So when you cut some wood for a fire, or hell, set a fire, you release something that is picked up by the surrounding vegetation and it reacts
Mar 11, 2021 04:47
You walk down a trail at 11am, gathering raspberries, that trail might look a lot different by 4:30pm, like they were not total bumpkins
Mar 11, 2021 04:46
It's slow, obviously, but it was really creepy to see in the lab. They move exactly like Disney has them moving in Snow White, just slower.
Mar 11, 2021 04:44
Plants actually do move a bit when people walk through virgin forest, I remember seeing a BBC documentary on that!
Mar 11, 2021 04:44
Oh, something else to consider:
Mar 11, 2021 04:43
with regards to mental health issues
Mar 11, 2021 04:42
Really, in medieval times, probably you let a lot more weird stuff slide right?
Mar 11, 2021 04:40
I think that's from Sesame St.
Mar 11, 2021 04:40
See I don't think the autism maps at all, because the Fae are terrifying the further back you go. When Europe was fully forested, creatures of the forest would have been frightening.
Mar 11, 2021 04:38
Yeah, they get timescales wrong all the time. Did they mean to mess with Rip Van Winkle? Maybe not. Maybe they just nipped out to do some theoretical physics, and lost track of time
Mar 11, 2021 04:34
Like how old is Tinkerbell, for example? 700? 2000?
