Somewhat reminds me of this disaster: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-tank_dog

I think these kinds of questions are great mind openers, and I'd love to join the discussion. But I also agree that the Stack format is definitely inappropriate for open ended discussion, argument, and opinion. Chat here could be an alternative but it is too loose and freeform. Maybe we need some official forum-like discussion platform for the RPG.SE community for exactly these kinds of things.

 FATE conflict finales

Concessions, taken out and other means of ending a conflict

@wraith808 Let me know when you're back.
Jan 31, 2013 14:22
Ah, ok
Jan 31, 2013 14:21
Like "What's this little thing over here?"
Jan 31, 2013 14:21
They are better off as aspects
Jan 31, 2013 14:20
I'd simplify the "conditional skills" in there, though
Jan 31, 2013 14:20
cool :)
Jan 31, 2013 14:17
that's the game itself
Jan 31, 2013 14:17
You don't have to know, you will find that out together
Jan 31, 2013 14:16
you start with more, but you are also limited
Jan 31, 2013 14:15
and limited resources
Jan 31, 2013 14:15
with limited jurisdiction
Jan 31, 2013 14:15
but everyone is the GM
Jan 31, 2013 14:14
In addition to being a regular player, you decide on the relevancy of certain rules
Jan 31, 2013 14:13
Another perspective that helps that is: You're not ta GM, you're a referee
Jan 31, 2013 14:12
You're going to play another GM's game
Jan 31, 2013 14:12
Consider yourself a player. Helps a lot
Jan 31, 2013 13:56
not much discussion
Jan 31, 2013 13:55
Easy then
Jan 31, 2013 13:55
Turns long discussions into quick decisions
Jan 31, 2013 13:54
if you don't like the outcome, you may spend fate points to invoke aspects and boost or hinder the roll as usual
Jan 31, 2013 13:53
but it doesn't end with that
Jan 31, 2013 13:53
the proposing player rolls the dice and adds the vote total. If the result is 0 or higher, the proposal is accepted. It is rejected if less
Jan 31, 2013 13:52
every for vote is +1 and every against vote is -1
Jan 31, 2013 13:51
when a player proposes something and the table can't agree on it, everyone except the proposing player votes for or against it
Jan 31, 2013 13:50
the mechanics I use are simple
Jan 31, 2013 13:50
but if some discussion can't resolve a particular detail, resort to the dice to decide on it
Jan 31, 2013 13:50
then, while you're creating the city and related stuff, when somebody proposes something and everybody is somehow ok with it, just write it down
Jan 31, 2013 13:48
don't skip on city creation, that's the driving force in DF and other fate games
Jan 31, 2013 13:47
no GM at this point, everybody is equal
Jan 31, 2013 13:47
give everyone a limited number of fate points, 4-5 is good
Jan 31, 2013 13:46
but players are there as players
Jan 31, 2013 13:46
It is a "game" in itself, without characters in the beginning
Jan 31, 2013 13:46
I have another house rule for running that part of the game
Jan 31, 2013 13:45
that's where most of the story forms
Jan 31, 2013 13:45
Did you run the city creation yet?
Jan 31, 2013 13:44
The more you invest, the more you'll get stuck
Jan 31, 2013 13:43
Do not prepare a plot, let one of the others do something and have the world react to that
Jan 31, 2013 13:42
Don't start telling the story, let someone else start
Jan 31, 2013 13:42
Just assume you're a player, a regular one
Jan 31, 2013 13:41
:D When you start running FATE games, you have to learn to let go of your control over the game
Jan 31, 2013 13:37
@BESW It would rather be boring if everything was precisely laid down anyway :) I can't say I complain about that :D
Jan 31, 2013 13:30
Yeah, everthing in the book is somewhat loose
Jan 31, 2013 13:28
"Lawbreaker" being a power and so..
Jan 31, 2013 13:28
This is a good edge case because it involves modifying the character in a way that normally only the owner of the character could do
Jan 31, 2013 13:27
Oh, it is always perfectly ok to discuss and agree on something without involving the rules at all
Jan 31, 2013 13:26
And that means you probably have to get some support from others at the table
Jan 31, 2013 13:25
So if you try to veto it, you should back it up with aspects
Jan 31, 2013 13:25
My house rule is: The "taken-out" story an opposing player is subject to compels from anyone at the table. It is particularly hard to tell that story against the grain of character aspects.
