@WheatWizard I was waiting for someone to comb through my 2016 answers in search of bounties, glad you're giving it a go!
Jan 5, 2022 09:51
it was a nice idea
Jan 5, 2022 09:47
ah right anything that maps singletons to themselves is doomed
Jan 5, 2022 09:43
I don't know, but I don't know how to find a collision either
Jan 5, 2022 09:33
@pxeger might it work to do lambda x:"0".join(x).join(x)?
Nov 11, 2021 22:54
@Randal'Thor that's amusing, thanks for telling me
Jul 24, 2021 06:07
Except, shouldn't the c in the wave equation be c^2?
Jul 24, 2021 06:07
I recognize all of them, I think
Jul 16, 2021 02:25
@LuisMendo Sorry for the late reply, this all sounds good. I'm also interesting in thinking about generalizations. I probably won't do anything though until I'm home in a couple of weeks. Do you have an e-mail or something I can use to contact you?
Jul 13, 2021 02:45
For collaborating on a short paper, sounds good to me, but what does that entail? Writing up a proof? I should warn you I'm on vacation now and might not have much time until a couple weeks from now.
Jul 13, 2021 02:43
@LuisMendo I don't have an OEIS account but assume I can make one?

And maybe the lexicographically first such sequence, though some condition would be needed to exclude the trivial f(n)=n
Apr 19, 2021 08:49
@Bubbler For your puzzling SE sequence question, metagaming from your half Fibonacci challenge made me notice that f(f(n)) is always a multiple of n
Mar 22, 2021 09:28
@flawr oh that one
Mar 22, 2021 03:10
@flawr would be happy to get an invite
Feb 12, 2021 01:25
54/500 :/
Feb 12, 2021 01:23
Where do I see the number?
Feb 11, 2021 22:36
Hmm, works for me. Does this link to the Sandbox post work? codegolf.meta.stackexchange.com/a/20703/20260

I fully agree. Writing a challenge is hard, fastest-code makes in 10x hard, and combining with other scoring makes it 10x harder still. Consider simplifying it. If you do think these are integral for your challenge, let it wait! There's no rush, you can come back to it after you've had some practice answering and writing other challenges, and with your experience you can make the best it can be.

"I highly recommend that you answer a few existing challenges before attempting the, frankly monumental, task of writing your own. This will give you an appreciation for well-specified challenges. I've been here for years, and have an order of magnitude more answers than challenges, and yes, my early challenges were problematic too."

@fasterthanlight I'm excited that you've joined this site and are enthusiastic about writing challenges, which I think we could definitely use more of nowadays. So let me pass on some great advice that Adám gave on another Sandboxed challenge, which I think applies in spirit if not in the exact specifics:

@Razetime Thanks for taking charge on this! The best-of was gathering dust for a while.

Though, id is weird in ways that suggest it's not a pure function in the mathematical sense, in that it can give different results each run, or for two variables holding the same number, as seen here.
Jun 13, 2022 06:58
@NobodyNeedsNames identity=lambda x:x
Jun 13, 2022 06:58
@Adám You might be thinking that id here is the identity function, whereas it's actually Python's built-in to get the "identity" of an object, that is its memory address.

You could also say that fixed lists are the minimal set that satisfies those properties. That is, the intersection of all such sets.
