@Ulysses this is not a discussion forum, this misconception might be one of the reasons people had an issue with your question

@HighGPA you payed a fee even though the paper was rejected?

@Wrzlprmft and @BryanKrause - I know your stance as mods was to just let it run its course, but that didn't seem to work, on the contrary, there are now several questions that are affected and protecting them all cannot be the answer. Is there some other feasible solution? Is disabling anonympus edits a possiblity?
Dec 7, 2023 08:59
@Nobody As there seems to be no end to the very distructive and disturbing edit suggestions (on the contratry, they seem to increase, I started to wonder if the responsible person implented some kind of automated process for it), I am completely for escalating this to Meta.SE, because the hostility it brings really makes using this site much less enjoyable. I also wonder why there is the possibility at all to do anonymous edits, after all every other site interaction isn't anynymous.

Even as a non mathematician, Latex is great to know. It is fairly easy to get a basic understanding and for the more intricate bits, there are lots of helpful resources on the Internet

@Amelian unfortunately, in this case remote is not a possibility, they want everyone there in person and do not have a hybrid version.

The title of your question and the question in the body do not match. The question in the body "How to find an obscure journal" is a borderline shopping question. Please edit either one so there is consistency.

Apr 18, 2023 19:25
@MasonWheeler once it is published, the journal holds the copyright of the text, even if you wrote the text yourself you can plagiarize it.
Apr 18, 2023 19:25
@MasonWheeler they plagiarised from their own previous publication (word for word), so they kind of really plagiarized themselves.
Apr 18, 2023 19:25
@BobaFit Sadly, I don't think so. There are articles published in questionable journals by (what I assume) the same author(s) with similar topics.
Apr 18, 2023 19:25
@Taladris In my opinion - in no area. I will not give more info on the paper, though, as I think it is best to keep this as anonymous as possible.
Apr 18, 2023 19:25
@TonyK I wish, but no.

Feb 13, 2023 15:44
@curious If noone would actively try to change the reality, Bob who already gets more invitations (and has done so in the past) will continue to do so in the future due to biases (as described by Arno). Is that better?

@Anyon only if there is a consensus that MDPI journals are dubious. I don't think there is.

@EvgeniiGadylshin The problem is that it is next to impossible for a university employee to make any judgement towards your situation. Even a person willing to spy can say that they are persecuted by their government to increase their chances. I understand your frustation, but it is very likely that there is no satisfactory solution. On the flip side, we wanted to hire someone from Russia at our department and tried very hard, but in the end, it was not allowed by the higher instance.
Oct 19, 2022 14:06
Although it might not be fair to the individual, rules like this exist for valid reasons and at my institute, we cannot hire people from Iran, China and, due to recent developments, Russia. As the war with Ukraine changed things quite a lot, I it very possible that the view on hiring Russians has changed only recently (especially in "sensitive" topics), that could be the reason for other people from your university having been accepted in the past but now it's not possible anymore.

and just to clarify: is the plan making the already existing course harder, so that more people fail, or is the plan to include linear algebra as a new course?
May 9, 2022 22:50
I think this question is hard to answer because at most places you either have filter courses or you don't. If the rest of the curriculum is not exactly the same it will be almost impossible to judge if one system is better.

@TonyEnnis yes, if the majority of potential readers would feel similarly I think they do. I mean, there are only three countries that don't usw metric units so I guess I am not alone. But I am not completely sure on this, hence the question.

@Buffy In line with your answer, If I don't accept racists, homophobes or similar minded people as they are, I have no place in academia? I think it is necessary not to accept those mindsets, no matter why people have them: be it for religious, cultural or other reasons. Religion (just as any other thing) should not be a blanket excuse for not treating people equally or nice.

@Lacek, the remark was not vague. It was very clear to me and not only against migrants, but muslim migrants in particular.

Jun 15, 2021 10:02
@Ben and one last remark, while it may need some practice to talk to women "appropriately", by the time you have advanced to a position where you are mentoring people, the learning period should be over.
Jun 15, 2021 10:02
@Ben Walk a mile a in womens shoes, and then we will talk again.
Jun 15, 2021 10:02
@DreamConspiracy and: when you as a men make excuses for other men behaving inappropriately and making other people uncomfortable (this is what Ben is saying), it is not a stereotype that I am creating
Jun 15, 2021 10:02
@DreamConspiracy If the men in question are unable to do their job (mentor) without acting inappropriate (making unwanted advances) because of their students gender and appearance, then yes, they are not the nicest persons IMHO.

@JochenGlueck we have more than 80 labs (including several cleanrooms), with a lot of machinery that uses up a lot of energy, we do a lot of reliability testing including temperature cycling, we need a lot of cooling, heating, ... There are so many places where all the energy goes.
May 28, 2021 16:36
@henning--reinstateMonica I certainly could try (and I even work sustainability considerations into what I do already). But at least for the rest of my PhD I kind of have to keep on doing what I am doing.
