it might be that the task requires knowledge from other "courses" which you might have missed earlier. Not a problem though, just put a bit more effort into it.

Looks like a typical "list of standard questions" interview. Other questions might include "where do you see yourself at our uni in 5 years", "if you were a fish which fish you'd like to be and why", or "what is your biggest weakness".

@Prof.SantaClaus I agree that this scenario is possible in mathematics. In that case, what exactly is "supervision", other than saying "here is your problem. Go and solve it"?
