The equation "x² + y²- 6x+ 8y + 25 = 0" represents... ??Can anybody tell me what this 2nd degree curve represents..according to my text I know that a 2nd degree curve represents a circle when coefficients of x²= y² and coefficient of xy term = 0 and it seems like both the conditions are fulfilled here..but I also know that a general 2nd degree curve represents a pair of straight lines if determinant is equal to zero i.e. abc+2fgh-af²_bg²_ch²=0

Ok I got it, So when does it helps to check if derivative of a function is increasing to find whether a function is injective?

Umm so, there is this question which has been bugging me for a while.. f(x)= x-(1/x).. we can see its derivative is positve in its domain that means function is strictly increasing but still it is not injective why?

@robjohn Sorry professor, it has been killing me for a while. I know it should be n^2- n but let's say if it is zero matrices then it should be n^2 right? Why don't we take the worst-case possible i.e. considering zero matrix?
